Class of 2005 M. Sc. Economics

Placements: They have an extremely good placement cell which gives exposure to jobs on par or often much higher than the average salary for a masters course in the market. If a good job break in jobs relating to economic applications is the goal, MSE is one of the good places to try for.

Class of 2007 M.Sc Economics

Placements: Placements started for the batch of 2006 and that was probably the best year for placements. Placements are still on the growth path at MSE but we managed to form a placement group and get atleast 10 -12 companies for the 2007 and 2008 batches. Those who didnt get through placements were offered research projects at college. I think it is growing positively on the corporate placement side but we are still not giving research its due. Today most of us have a job with a handsome salary. How many of us are doing it for the ease of it rather than passion is for each of us to decide

Infrastructure / Teaching facilities: Though most of the infrastructure was a small scale affair then now things have grown and improved. The library though a small one had most of the material we required and good internet connectivity halped us through the rest. The computer lab was small (barely 10 computers) but now we have new computer lab which looks awesome and has many more computers. All the class rooms and conference rooms have overhead projectors now but then I think all our teachers believed in the black board concept which was fun.In all adequate to sail through but I am sure it is improving.

Faculty: When I studied there we just had one coarse and lots of electives to choose from which gave us a strong foundation in what we did. We had and still have great professors like Kavikumar (Mathematics, Enivironmental and Energy Economics), Brinda (Statistics, Econometrics, Developmental), Hema (Micro and Inductrial), Siddharthan (Industrial) and a couple of great visiting professors like Jaya (Panel Data Econometrics) and Babu (Game Theory). They were excellent teachers and great people to interract with off their professor role as well..I have troubled all of them and have enjoyed the best of treatment. I think I am blessed and was pampered a lot.

Overall Feedback: I loved my two years at MSE (probably the best in my life). I had and still have great relationship with all my professors and have a lot of close friends. I think I worked very hard those two years and had a lot of fun. What I find very insulting to myself and my professors is the fact that I have completely lost touch with the hard core Economics that I had loved as a teenager in my corporate run. All my professors still want me to pursue research because they see it in me but I am still struggling to find some light.. If I am so passionate about this place after 3 and half years there is something that this place has that transforms you personally, academically and professionally. Good Luck to my institute and all those who want to join this place.
