Aircraft Maintenance Engineering
The Aircraft Maintenance Engineering or AME is a niche course offered by few institutes, which deals with the maintenance, upgrade and quality assurance of aircraft. Aircraft Maintenance Engineering is a licensed course and has been approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The licence is also recognized internationally by the International Civil Aviation Organization. Aircraft Maintenance Engineering has two types of courses - A and B, which differs in respect to the duration of the course and the level of knowledge that the students can absorb. The Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course is rigorous in nature and comes with a lot of responsibilities. The curriculum is also a mix of theory and practice and the students also get ample exposure to the aviation industry owing to regular field visits.

Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Courses
There are two types of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering courses:
- A Program (2 Year) - Students will have to undergo one-year academic training and the next year will be training involved with the live environment in Airlines, MRO Organizations and more. During training, the students will also be able to get the stipend. The students can apply for the license, which will be issued by DGCA, after the completion of the course. The license will be for the engineer who can maintain, repair, and troubleshoot the simple defect of an aircraft.
- B Program (4 Year) - Students will have to spend two years of academic training and two years of practical training. Live training will be held in Airlines, MRO Organization and more. The stipend can be obtained by the students during training. Licensed AME will be able to work in the government and private sector in India and Abroad. The license will be issued by DGCA. B1 license will be mechanical stream in aircraft. The mechanical stream is related to the components such as Fuselage, Landing Gear, and Wings etc. Meanwhile, a B2 license will be for avionics stream in aircraft. The avionics stream is related to the electronics system.
Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Eligibility Criteria
Engineering aspirants who aim to pursue the AME course must fulfil the following eligibility criteria:
- Candidates should pass the 10+2 board exam with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) or equivalent AICTE approved 3-years engineering diploma in any stream or any higher qualification in science with Physics and Mathematics at the time of admission.
- Candidate must have secured a minimum aggregate of 45% marks in 10+2 in PCM or equivalent.
- Candidates who are eligible for admission in B.Tech Courses are also eligible for Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Course.
- Candidates' age should be between 16 to 28 years at the time of admission.
- Candidates must not have colour blindness and any physical disabilities.
AME Admission Process
The admission process involves appearing for entrance exams. After qualifying for the entrance test, the candidates will be granted admission to one of the DGCA approved institutes on the basis of their ranks and the counselling process. The entrance exams carry three to four sections, which are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, General Awareness and English for candidates who have passed the 10+2 board exam. For the candidates who hold a three-year Diploma in Engineering/BTech/Higher qualification in Science with PCM, the sections of the AME entrance exam will be English, General Awareness and Aptitude Test.

Is B.Sc. Aircraft Maintenance Engineering 6 months lateral entry course from Singhania university valid for UPSC PCS SSC etc?
Aircraft maintenance engineering is not a degree or a Diploma course, but a training programme. On completion of the training, a license is issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). And it should not be considered a valid graduation degree.
