ICSI CS December 2023 exam dates have been announced. The examination for CS December 2023 will commence on December 21, 2023. ICSI CS registration 2024 (June session) for both modules has begun online. Last date for ICSI CS 2024 June registrations for both modules is November 30, 2023.

Candidates who have registered for the ICSI CS Executive programme or CS Professional program old syllabus (2017) can now apply for a switchover to new ICSI CS syllabus (2022). The first examination under new syllabus (2022) for CS Executive will be held in December 2023 and for CS Professional it will be held in June 2024

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, constituted under the Company Secretaries Act, 1980, is a government-recognized body that produces Company Secretaries in India. The course of Company Secretaryship was introduced in 1960 by the Company Law Board. The ICSI was created in 1968 and took over from the Company Law Board to conduct the exam. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) was then converted into a statutory body w.e.f. 1.1.1981 under the Company Secretaries Act, 1980.   • Registered candidates can apply for a switchover from old syllabus (2017) to new syllabus (2022)
  • ICSI has announced the revised syllabus for ICSI CS Executive, Professional programme. Registrations under new syllabus for CS Executive and CS Professional examinations have commenced.
  • The University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted postgraduate-level degree status to ICSI CS programme. According to UGC, students who qualify ICSI CS programme will now be treated equivalent to postgraduate degree holders. The official order by UGC states, "UGC had received requests from the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) to consider the qualification awarded to by them that is CS equivalent to post-graduation degree." To consider this, a committee was constituted by UGC. The commission considered the recommendation of the expert committee and resolved that CS will be considered equivalent to PG degrees.

CS Executive Application Form 2023

ICSI CS Executive exam registration is ongoing, for the June 2024 session (Both modules). ICSI CS Executive programme registration is open throughout the year for the exam conducted in June and December.

CS Professional Application Form 2023

ICSI CS Professional registration for both modules is ongoing till November 30, 2023. The application form of CS Professional programme is also open throughout the year.

Steps to become CS

Executive Programme Eligibility

  • Now CSEET will be a mandatory qualifying test for all categories of students for registration to the Executive Programme except a few exempted categories. 
  • The candidate's age must not be less than 17 years on the date of application
  • To be eligible for CSEET, candidates must have completed Class 12 
  • Graduate/Post Graduate candidates who were eligible to seek registration directly to the Executive Programme will also have to qualify CSEET to become eligible for registration to Executive Programme. 

The following categories of students are exempted from qualifying CSEET and can seek registration directly to the Executive Programme:

Qualifying Cut off 

Candidates need to secure an aggregate of 50% and a minimum of 40% in each subject in CSEET. 

Professional Programme Eligibility

Professional Programme is the final level in Company Secretaryship. Candidates who have cleared their Foundation and Executive Programmes are eligible to undertake Professional Programme.

Eligibility:

  • The candidate is supposed to register for the Professional Programme nine months prior to the month in which the examination commences to be able to be admitted to the programme.
  • A candidate registered six months prior to the examination month may be allowed to appear in any one or two module(s) of the Professional Programme.
  • The candidate must have undergone postal or oral tuition for the modules in which he/she intends to appear in the examination.

Qualifying cutoff:    
For all Modules:

  • A candidate will be declared passed if he/she secures in one sitting a minimum of 40 per cent in each of the papers and 40 per cent in aggregate of all the papers.
  • A candidate will be declared passed is he/she has passed any one or more modules of Professional examination under old syllabus and secures in one sitting at least 40% marks in each of the remaining papers and 50% marks in aggregate.

For one Module:

  • The candidate is required to secure a minimum of 40% marks in each of the papers and 50% per cent marks in aggregate, which will be declared ‘pass’ in the Professional Programme.
  • If a candidate who has failed in one subject, but got a minimum of 60% of the total marks of the remaining subjects of the module, shall be declared ‘pass’ if he/she secures a minimum of 50% interest. 

Q:   What documents are required to fill ICSI CS Executive application form?

A:

To fill the ICSI CS Executive examination application form, candidates must ensure to keep the following documents ready to avoid any last minute hassle. Check the list of documents mentioned below:

  1. Photography of the candidate
  2. Signature of the candidate
  3. DOB certificate or 10th pass certificate
  4. Qualification certificate- Class 12th marksheet/certificate or CSEET pass certificate
  5. Category certificate (if any except general)
  6. Any of the following identity proof- Aadhaar Card/Passport/Voter ID /Pan Card/Driving License/Ratio Card

Q:   How to enroll for ICSI CS exam?

A:

Only candidates who have registered for the ICSI CS exam will be able to enroll for the ICSI CS exam. The ICSI CS December 2023 registration for single modules has ended for CS Executive, Professional programmes. The last date of registration for ICSI CS December 2023 single modules was August 16, 2023. The enrollment process for ICSI CS December 2023 session (late fee) is ongoing till October 19, 2023. Q:   What are the levels for becoming CS?

A:

To become a Company Secretary candidates will have to pass the three levels prescribed below:

  1. CSEET: CS Executive Entrance Test is the entry-level examination and is applicable for the candidates who have cleared the class 12th. The CSEET question paper is divided across four sections. Candidates are assessed on the basis of the following sections- Business Communication, Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning, Economic and Business Environment, and Current Affair.
  2. CS Executive Exam: After clearing the CSEET exam and having a relevant Bachelors degree as per the eligibility criteria, candidates can register and enroll for the CS Executive exam. The registration for CS Executive programme is open throughout the year. The duration of the CS Executive level is nine months.
  3. CS Professional Exam: After clearing the CS Executive examination, candidates will be able to enroll for the CS Professional programme. Candidates must ensure to register himself/herself as a student for the professional programme at least nine months prior to the month of the examination. 

Q:   How can I pursue CS course? What is the admission procedure for the same?

A:

To pursue the ICSI CS course, candidates must appear for the Company Secretary Executive Entrance Test (CSEET) which is an entry level examination conducted to qualify for CS Executive level examination. To appear for the CSEET, candidates must be a graduate and must fulfill the prescribed eligibility criteria. CSEET is conducted four times in a year- January, May, July and November. 

Candidates must ensure to score minimum aggregate marks in each section of CSEET to qualify. Upon qualifying, candidates can proceed to register for CS Executive and CS professional examination. The ICSI CS Executive & Professional exam is conducted twice in ayear- June and December. Candidates are advised to stay updated with the cut off dates for CS Executive, CS Professional examinations.

Q:   What is ICSI CS pre examination test?

A:

Students who are registered under CS Executive new syllabus and CS Professional new syllabus shall have to appear for the Pre examination test to become eligible to enroll and appear for the CS Executive or CS Professional examination. The exam will be conducted by ICSI. the exam will be served as an eligibility criteria to appear for the main examinations. Candidates will be required to pay the pre examination test fee of INR 1000 online. Once the payment is realised, candidates will be sent invitation along with the login ID and password.

If you start from scratch, passing the CS Executive in two months is very challenging. The CS executive syllabus consists of two modules that are each broken down into a total of eight papers. To pass the CS Executive exam, you must pass each paper. You must score at least a 40% on each paper and a 50% on each module in order to pass. If you are preparing for ICSI CS exam from scratch, it would be difficult to complete the syllabus in two months. Negative marking is an additional factor that makes accuracy more difficult to achieve without extensive practice. Thus, it takes at least six to seven months to finish the syllabus and prepare for the CS Executive exam.

Q:   When will the ICSI CS enrollment process begin?

A:

ICSI CS December 2023 enrollment process for CS Executive and CS Professional programme commenced on August 26, 2023 and ended on October 10, 2023. Candidates who have already registered for the CS Executive programme/ CS Professional programme were able to enroll for the programme. Candidates were able to enroll for the CS December 2023 session till September 25, 2023 without late fee. Candidates enrolling after the mentioned date will had to pay the late fee of INR 250 per subject. Candidates must ensure to stay updated with the cutoff date of ICSI CS application and enrollment form. Check the table below to know the complete schedule for ICSI CS December 2023 enrollment:

Q:   How can I pursue company secretary course?

A:

Candidates aspiring to become a Company Secretary (CS), need to appear for the CSET exam. Students who have completed their 10+2 are eligible to pursue this course. There are three course levels in this exam, namely CS Executive Entrance Test, Executive course, and Professional course. Candidates have to first enroll in the CSEET, which is the course level one. After passing, students have to register themselves for the Executive course, and then the Professional programme. There is a final management training round after completing Professional level. Accomplishing that, candidates will be officially certified as a Company Secretary (C. S) graduate. The Company Secretary salary in India is 6 Lacs per year. Candidates completing their 12 standards, and looking to get into a good commerce field can apply for the Company Secretary (CS). Also, candidates should be above 17 years of age in that year of admission to Company Secretary course. Candidates appearing for their 12th boards exam, can also apply for the Company Secretary (CS).

Comapny Secretary or Chartered Accountancy courses have significant opportunities and score in India. Both the courses cater different expertise in the corporate and finance sectors. 

Company Secretary course focuses primarily on coporate law, compliance, governance, and CS practices. As a CS, person plays a vital role in ensuring compliance with the legal and regulatory requirements along with the corporate standards and providing guidance on corporate decisions. CS are employed in financial or corporate institutions, regulatory bodies, or can work independently as consultants. Whereas, CA has a wide score in field of finance, accounting, taxation, and auditing. CA is involves in various aspects like financial reporting, tax planning, advoisory services, and auditing.  The demand for CA is consisitently higher. 

The scope of CA and CS various upon the industrial trends- individual expertise and economic conditions. CS professionals have goof prospects in coporations and complaince focus roles whereas, CA have higher demands in financial and accounting domains. The choice betweek CA and CS should be based on personal interests, aptiutude and career goals.

Q:   Which of these is more difficult, CS executives or CS professionals?

A:

The difficulty level of the CS Executive course and CS Peofessional may vary from person to person. The difficulty level differs at the individual's aptitude, preparation, and preparation methods. CS Executive is the second level of the CS course. The CS Executive course is divided into two groups consisting of four and three papers whereas, CS Professional course is dicided into two groups along with two elective papers. Additionaly, CS Professional course includes practical training wherein students gain hands on experience of CS practices. This practical training along woth the theoretical studies adds to the difficulty level of the Professional course in general. 

However, to ace both levels, it requires dedication and consistent efforts through preparation. Candidates must chalk effective preparation strategy to ace the difficulty level of the CS Executive or CS Professional course.

Yes, you can join the institute of company secretaries of india (ICSI) without taking the ICSI CS exam. To join the ICSI, you must:

  • pass the 10+2 or equivalent exam with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks
  • be at least 17 years old at the time of application

Yes, you can join ICSI Delhi without ICSI exam for the Integrated CS course, B.Com, M.Com and for the certificate programmes.

For the Integrated Programme, you must have graduated with 50% marks and must complete the foundation training programme conducted by the ICSI or ICAI.
