Q:   Is it worth joining IIT Jammu for BTech?
A:

IIT Jammu placements 2023 concluded recently with an overall 85% placement rate. Other than this, if we compare the past year's cutoff trends for the premium specialisations such as CSE and EE, the competition to get into the institute has increased making it a better option. Other than these, the institute offers amenities, such as well-maintained labs, sport-specific playgrounds, etc. Talking about the infrastructure, IIT Jammu is one of the few IITs of its generation to have a permanent campus and not a temporary or borrowed campus. The college is good considering academics, hostels, and placement in tech.
Placements: This year there is approximately 80% placement in IIT Jammu. The highest package on-campus is 45 LPA while the lowest is 6 LPA. However, one student got a package of 85 LPA off-campus. The average package is 13 LPA. I am from the MnC branch which is relatively new. None of the batches of MnC has passed out but it has a very good scope as per the current scenario. CSE has a 100% placement start. Talking about internships, you will get an ample amount of opportunities and college support too.
Infrastructure: The classroom is air-conditioned and there are 2 libraries. There is a study hall too in which you can go and study. You will get institute Wi-Fi 24/7 in the hostel as well as classroom and library. The hostel has some study rooms and TT table setup. The food in the mess ranges from average to good depending upon the mess you get. Talking about sports, there is one football ground (one in the making too), one basketball court, one volleyball court, cricket nets, 2 badminton halls (one indoor and one outdoor),2 gyms, and some indoor games setup (pool, carrom, etc.).
Faculty: The faculty members are well-qualified and easily approachable in most of the cases. However, in some courses, you have to study on your own. The course curriculum is similar to that of other IITs. The semester exam can range from very easy to very tough depending upon the professor. Approximately there is 85%-95% of pass percentage.
Other: The campus is currently in the developing stage. So, you may find it small compared to other IITs. The recent fest was Anhad in which some major names were Pranav Sharma and Monali Thakur. In another event, Madhur Virli had come to perform. Talking about sports.

It's a great place to live in with an amazing infrastructure and growing tech culture.
Placements: In our batch (third year) about 16/40 students got internships in companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Warner Bros, Samsung, etc. Even I got 2 internships as an SDE intern at WBD and the other as a 6-month summer intern (SWE role) at Amazon. The highest package till now in our senior batch is around 62 LPA which is an offer given by Atlassian.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is great. It gives a luxurious feel. A new academic block has been built this semester only, which has bigger AC classrooms and well-equipped labs. The campus has access to 24/7 Wi-Fi with good speed. Mess services are okay, could be worse. Sports culture is improving day by day.
Faculty: Majority of faculty members in the CSE department are good. They are very easily approachable since there are less number of students here compared to other IITs. Course curriculum is good, can be improved a bit, but it's okay, it makes students industry-ready if they are interested in tech. End sem exams are on the tougher side maintaining the standards of IIT, but going to class will help you a lot.
Other: I want to solve a big myth about IIT Jammu about it not being safe. It's completely safe, majorly everything that happens in the Kashmir side which is very far away from us. Jammu is a very safe city with very simple people so don't opt the idea of joining in here because it is in Jammu and Kashmir.

As this is a new IIT, the infrastructure is new, and the equipment is well-advanced.
Placements: Around 20 percent of students in my branch get placement through campus. The highest package was 20 lakhs, the lowest placement was 4 lakhs, and the average package is around 7-9 lakhs in my course. The top recruiting company last year was Byju's. Around 10 percent of students received internships in different sectors, including tech companies and core industries.
Infrastructure: Our campus is operating on 35 acres right now, and it is expanding slowly. We have a very small library here, which is just adequate. The campus is fully equipped with WiFi. The hostels are not very impressive but are good enough. The mess food is the worst. We have sports facilities for badminton, athletics, football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, a pool table, gym, etc. We have a medical unit also.
Faculty: Some of the professors are good and help students after the lecture too, but some of the professors are not experienced enough to teach, and their behavior is also poor. The course curriculum is very relevant and is similar to other IITs. You can get a very good CGPA with only minimal effort, but there is a subject called calculus which requires a lot of effort to pass.

Comprehensive, supportive, and growth-oriented college experience.
Placements: Around 80% of students were placed in IIT Jammu. The highest package was 50 LPA, the lowest was 8 LPA, and the average was around 15 LPA. Top recruiters include Microsoft, Amazon, and L&T. Nearly 85% got internships at companies like DRDO, ISRO, and Tata. Top roles offered are software dev, analyst, and engineer.
Infrastructure: There is no shortage of water here. However, there are no rooms with air conditioning, though classrooms do have these facilities. I am a vegetarian, and the food in the mess is average in quality. The registration process is simple and smooth. The library is open 24 hours, while the gym closes at 11:30 PM and the cafeterias stay open until 3 AM. On campus, you must return by 11 PM. There are some hangout places outside, including fast food spots and many restaurants. Yes, it is completely safe.
Faculty: Teachers are helpful except some and mostly are knowledgeable. Teaching quality is also very good. The course curriculum is relevant except some courses make students industry-ready. Some courses are difficult and some are moderate. Passing is approximately 25 to 30 out of 100.

The college has a good infrastructure including professional facilities.
Placements: Our course offers excellent placement opportunities, with a high percentage of students securing jobs. The highest package reached an impressive figure, while the average package remains competitive. Top recruiters include major tech firms, consulting companies, and MNCs. Internships are widely available, with students securing positions in reputed organizations. Roles offered span software development, data analysis, finance, and management.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the course is well-equipped with essential facilities like high-speed Wi-Fi, modern laboratories, spacious classrooms, and a well-stocked library. The hostel provides decent accommodation, and the mess offers a variety of food options. The campus also has good medical facilities, along with sports and recreational areas. The infrastructure is well-maintained and supports students in their academic and extracurricular activities.
Faculty: Faculty members are knowledgeable and experienced, but the teaching quality varies across subjects. Some professors are highly engaging, while others rely more on self-study. The curriculum is relevant but could be updated to include more industry-oriented skills. Semester exams are moderately difficult, and students need consistent preparation. The pass percentage is reasonable, but practical exposure could be improved for better career readiness.
Other: It offers a very good infrastructure and educational opportunities for students who are willing to be the best of their potential. It also offers a very decent placement opportunity.

An emerging 3rd-generation IIT with a good future.
Placements: Placements are average compared to other IITs. CSE placements are excellent, with almost all students securing good packages. However, lower branches face some challenges with placements, which is a concern for students. Placement cell is working efficiently to address these issues.
Infrastructure: Hostel provides good basic facilities with very few issues. Lecture halls are well-equipped with modern technologies. Vending machines for snacks are available at various locations. However, the lack of sports grounds is a concern, as there is no cricket ground at present. A new sports complex is currently under construction.
Faculty: Faculty members are good, and the curriculum is manageable. However, the exam schedule is a bit tight, with class tests held before the midterm and end-semester exams. Calculus exams in the first semester are particularly challenging. Achieving an 8 CGPA in the first year is quite difficult.
