NIRF 2024 Rankings are out. As per the latest NIRF 2024 rankings, IIT Ropar ranks #22 under the category 'Engineering'.
The GATE COAP counselling 2025 has now concluded with the release of Round 10 seat allotment offers for admission to ME/MTech courses. The GATE 2026 registration is anticipated to begin in the fourth week of August 2025.
A few more updates are given below:
- The JoSAA 2025 Final Round seat allocation results have been published for IIT Ropar admission admission to BE/BTech courses. Candidates allocated seats in this final round must complete online reporting, including payment of the required fee and uploading the necessary documents by Jul 20, 2025 (until 5 PM).
- The IIT JAM 2025 counselling process has ended with the release of the Round 4 admission list for admission to the MSc course. The IIT JAM 2026 application form is expected to be available in the first week of Sept 2025.
- MTech/PhD 2025 applications are closed now.

The candidates looking to take admission for ECE at IIT Ropar cannot get admission as the course was not offered by the institute in 2024. However, under the acquired rank of 7000, candidates can opt for Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering Physics, and Chemical Engineering programs. Further, as per the IIT Ropar cutoff 2024 for JEE Advanced, the cutoff rank for aforementioned courses for the General AI category candidates stood at 8836, 10097, and 11365, respectively.
For 2022, cut off was 11890 for General category candidates in All India quota for BTech in Civil Engineering in IIT Ropar - Indian Institute of Technology. For female candidates in general category under All India quota, 19290 was the closing rank. BTech cut off varies depending on the category and domicile/quota of the applicant.
The admission process at IIT Ropar varies depending on the programme of interest. Here is an overview of the admission process for the BTech and MTech programmes:
BTech Programme:
- Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must have a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in their class 12 (or equivalent) examination. They should also qualify for the JEE Main exam. Candidates need to appear for the JEE Main, which is conducted at the national level. The exam assesses the candidates' knowledge in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
- JEE Advanced: Those who qualify in the JEE Main are eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced exam. The JEE Advanced evaluates the candidates' problem-solving skills and their understanding of concepts in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
- Counselling: Based on the JEE Advanced scores, candidates are invited for counseling and seat allocation. The final selection is based on merit, which takes into account the JEE Advanced scores and the candidate's class 12 performance.
MTech Programme:
- Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must have a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in their qualifying degree (BTech or BE). They should also qualify for the GATE exam.
- GATE Exam: Candidates need to appear for the GATE exam, which is a national-level examination that tests candidates' understanding of their undergraduate engineering subjects.
- Shortlisting and Interview: Based on the GATE scores, candidates are shortlisted for further selection processes, which may include written tests, interviews, or both. The final selection is based on the candidate's performance in these stages.
Under the acquired rank of 12000, candidates cannot get admission for OBC Female category. First of all, IIT Ropar do not release its cutoffs based on Gender and State-level quota. Considering the IIT Ropar cutoff 2024 for JEE Advanced, the required rank should be under 1084 and 4968 for the OBC AI quota. So, 12000 is not enough rank to secure a seat at IIT Ropar.
IIT Ropar provides a comprehensive four-year undergraduate BTech programme. Admission to the BTech programme at IIT Ropar is determined entirely through an entrance examination. Specifically, IIT Ropar BTech admission relies on the JEE Advanced score, which is attained by candidates who have already qualified in the JEE Main exam. The central admission process for all IITs is coordinated by JoSAA, a centralised authority that administers seat allocation for candidates who have successfully cleared the JEE Advanced exam.
IIT Ropar Fees Breakdown

The cut off rank in Round 6 for BTech in Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering is 2496 which is very close to this range. This was for general category under All India quota. Unless the candidate belongs to some other category or domicile, one can not afford to score less than this. With this rank, there is a probability of getting admission however since, the cut offs keep changing from round to round, better ranks definitely increases your chances of getting admission in IIT Ropar - Indian Institute of Technology.
The IIT Ropar MSc cutoff 2024 has been released for Round 1, wherein the M.Sc. in Chemistry is the most competitive specialisation with a closing rank of 406 for the General AII India category students. The least competitive course is M.Sc. in Mathematics with a cutoff rank of 425. So, candidates seeking admission to any of the MSc courses must secure a rank up to 425 to be eligible for IIT Ropar.
IIT Ropar admission to the MSc course is based on IIT JAM scores, followed by the IIT JAM counselling process. Only candidates on the JAM 2024 merit list based on JAM 2024 scorecard will be eligible to apply for admission.

The JoSAA 2025 counselling choice filling is now over. As the choice filling window is closed, candidates are no longer allowed to edit their choice list. This means they cannot change the order of selected choices, add new courses, or delete any courses from the list after the deadline.
NTA will release the JEE Main 2026 dates on the official website jeemain.nta.nic.in. The session 1 exam will likely be conducted in January last week.
