SEED Entrance Exam 2026: Symbiosis Institute of Design offers UG and PG Programmes through SEED Entrance Exam. The Application for SEED 2026 is expected to be out in the third week of August 2025 for B.Des and M.Des. Candidates meeting the eligibility criteria may complete the SEED 2026 application form

The exam will include 60 questions and will be proctored online. The duration of the exam will be 60 minutes between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The FINAL merit list for SEED 2026 will be prepared based on SEED 2026, PRPI, and Personal Interaction. SID will conduct SEED 2026 mock tests tentatively in the second week of January 2026.

Q:   When will the SEED 2025 written exam be conducted?
A: 

The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) will conduct the SEED 2025 written exam on January 12, 2025. The exam will be of 1 hour duration (to be conducted between 10 am to 4 pm).

The exam slot allocated to the candidate will be mentioned in the admit card.

On exam day, the candidate has to be ready an hour so before the exam to ensure all pre-exam formalites are comleted on time. The SEED exam will be being conducted in an online proctored mode.

Q:   When will the SEED 2025 application form open?
A: 

The SEED 2025 application form is now closed.

The application opened on August 16, 2024. The last date to apply for the exam was January 1, 2025.

Applications had to be filled out open online at SID official website - sid.edu.in.  The detailed application schedule was released by the institute on its admission portal.

Candidates who met the prescribed criteria may apply before the last date (January 1).

The SEED 2025 application form is for admission to the B.Desprogramme offered by participating colleges.

Q:   When will SEED 2025 application form open for M.Des?
A: 

The application form of SEED 2025 is now OPEN for the M.Des program.

Candidates who met the prescribed eligibility criteria can apply from August 14 to April 15, 2025.

The application form has to be submitted online at sid.edu.in (application link also given on this page).

As part of the application filling process, the candidate has to get registered, fill in the form, upload documents, and pay the application fee.

The SID admission registration fee is Rs. 3250/- (Rs. 2250 for SEED & Rs. 1000 for SID)

Q:   Can I use NIFT sample papers to prepare for SEED 2025 exam?
A: 

NIFT is easily among the most important and difficult entrance exams in the country.

In comparision, SEED is relatively easier and has less competition. You can definitely use NIFT sample papers to prepare for SEED exam as well.

But make sure that you focus on topics that are also included in the SEED exam syllabus. 

By solving sample papers, you can improve problem-solving ability and time-management skills.

What is SEED?

Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED) is a design aptitude test conducted by the Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID). Candidates who qualify in the SEED appear in a Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) round. The merit list of SID will be prepared by considering the cumulative performance of the written exam, PRPI, and Personal Interaction. The SEED exam evaluates candidates on parameters like color, geometry, visual observations, general design awareness, creative thinking abilities, and awareness of Indian culture, craft, traditions, etc.

Q:   Is SEED 2025 exam compulsory for admission to the B.Des program?
A: 

Yes, candidates seeking admission to the B.Desprogrammeneed to compulsory appear in the SEED 2025 exam.

The scores of the SEED 2025 exam will be used to shortlist candidates for a Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) round.

Note that the final merit list will be prepared by considering the cumulative performance of the candidate in the Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED), Portfolio Review, PRPI Task, and Personal Interaction (PRPI).

So, any candidate who appears in the SEED but doesn’t appear in the PRPI will not be considered for admission. 

The B.Des is a 4-year course carrying 160 credits.

Q:   Do I need elementary drawing exam certificate for admission to B.Des programme through SEED 2025?
A: 

Candidates are not required to submit an elementary drawing exam certificate for the Admission Procedure at SID. The candidate merely needs to meet the academic, qualifting exam, and age criteria. Eligible candidate next needs to appear in the SEED 2025. Those qualifying in the exam will have to next appear in a PRPI round. The final results would be prepared by giving weightage to the SEED 2025 exam and the PRPI. 

Q:   Are there any coaching classes/ preparatory classes for SEED 2025 exam preparation?

So, the candidate has the discretion to decide whether the want to join any coaching institute of not. Q:   I have done foundation program/Diploma from another institute. Do I need to appear in SEED 2025 or I can get direct admission?
A: 

The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) does not have any provisions for direct admission to second year. So, candidates have to compulsory take admission in the first year of the B.Des program. Note that admission to the B.Des is only through the SEED 2025 exam.

Scores of the qualifying exam will not be considered for admission to the B.Des program. Neither does SID accept scores of other popular entrance exams like NIFT, NID DAT, etc.

Q:   Are there any specific requirement for uploading portfolio for SEED PRPI?
A: 

The digital portfolio should be a compilation of the best work of the candidate that showcases teh candidate’s skills, passion and interest in a variety of areas and techniques. 

It is recommended to take good quality pictures of this work and compile them in a Power Point Presentation. Note that a maximum 15 slides are allowed. 

You need to then convert this into PDF (max size 5 MB). Try to be different and include unique and interesting things.

SEED 2026 Preparation Tips

SEED is unlike other entrance exams in that it is conducted in a remote-proctored mode.

Here, we discuss some easy-to-follow tips for SEED preparation 2026.

  • Make the SEED preparation 2026 strategy considering the syllabus. For instance, you need to allocate more time for difficult topics, spare time for revision, and include SEED sample papers and SEED mock tests.

The eligibility criteria for the M.Des program is prescribed by the Symbiosis Institute of Design.

Candidates seeking admission to the program need to meet the following conditions:

Q:   What is the structure of the SEED 2025 exam?

The SEED 2025 written will be a 60 minutes exam. The exam will be conducted in multiple slots between 10 am and 4 pm.

The SEED question paper will include 60 questions.

The following types of questions will be asked during the exam - MCQ, Match the Columns, Fill in the blanks, image-based and comprehension based.

SEED 2026 Admit Card

The Symbiosis Institute of Design released the Admit card of SEED 2026 in the second week of January, 2026. The admit card has to be produced to take the exam. If the candidate doesn't produce the admit card, they will be stopped from taking the exam.

Also, typically, there is no option to make partial payment.

Q:   Does SID offer any short term / distance courses through SEED 2025?

SID doesn't offer any short term / distance courses. The institute presently offers only full time Under- Graduate degree courses.

At the UG level, the institute offers a regular B.Des program, while a hybrid M.Des program is offered at the PG level.

Admission to both courses will be through the SEED 2025 entrance exam.

SEED Eligibility Criteria 2026

Symbiosis Institute of Design will release the eligibility criteria of SEED 2026 for admission to the B.Des program. The candidate must ensure they meet the prescribed eligibility criteria, because otherwise, the candidate can be disqualified at any stage of the admission process.

  • Cleared Class 12 (from any stream, e.g., Science, Commerce, Arts, etc.) or equivalent (Or)
  • Cleared 10+3 diploma approved by State Board of Technical Education with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks (45% marks or equivalent grade for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes).

Aspirants who are appearing for their final exams in the 10+2 or 10+3 diploma programs exam pattern also meet the SEED 2026 eligibility criteria on the condition that their final exam results are declared by June of the admission year.

Note: Any candidate who fails in his/her Class 12 examination but later appears for and clears the immediate compartmental examination, which is held in the same year, in their first attempt, is eligible for provisional admissions at SID.

Q:   Which is better - SEED or NIFT?
A: 

If you are seeking admission to the B.Des program, you can opt for SEED and NIFT.

However, NIFT is the preeminent design entrance exam in the country, rivaled only by the NID DAT and UCEED. Also, NIFTs, usually, the older ones are ranked among the top design colleges in the country.

So, the NIFTs should be your first preference. Keep SEED as a back-up option.

Note that the NIFT 2025 application form is expected to START in December 2024.

SEED Application Form 2026

SEED Application Forms will be out in the third week of August 2025. The application form for SEED 2026 has to be filled out online. The last date to apply for B Des. SEED 2026 will be in the first week of January 2026. The last date to fill out the application form for SEED 2026 M. Des will be in the third week of April 2026. 

How to fill out the SEED 2026 Application Form?

  • Get registered - In the registration form, enter details like email ID and mobile number to get registered. On successful registration, an applicant account will be created.
  • Fill in the SEED 2026 form - In this step, fill in your personal, academic, and contact details. Also, select the Test Centre preference.
  • Pay the SEED Application fee - After ensuring the application fee is complete in all respects, pay the exam fee of INR 3,250. The fee has to be paid online using net banking, credit, and debit cards.
  • Submit the Application form - After ensuring that the application is complete in all respects, submit it.

The application form of SEED 2025 has to be filled online. There is no option to apply for the exam in offline mode.

Next, log in to the portal complete the rest of the form, including uploading of documents and payment of fees.

Also, don't download the online application form, take a printout, fill it, and send the complete application to the admission office.

Here are some key points related to the M.Des program:

  • The first semester of the program will include a recap of basic design principles, knowledge and skills. You can choose an elective of your choice in the area of Innovation and UX/UI followed by your first project.
  • The second semester will teach skills and knowledge in domains like psychology, interaction design and prototyping followed by projects in the areas of information and affordance and user centered research and design.
  • The third semester will focus on methods of usability testing, writing of research papers, electives in the field of user experience and a self-led project aligned with user research and prototyping.
  • The final semester is devoted to the application of learned skills and knowledge into a self-initiated or industry-based project oriented to addressing real world challenges in the field of user experience design.

SEED Exam Pattern 2026

As per the official website, the candidates have to appear for the SEED 2026 exam, and those qualifying for the exam will be shortlisted for portfolio review and personal interaction rounds. The exam pattern for SEED 2026 will be such that aspirants have to attempt 150 multiple-choice questions.

The questions could be MCQ, Match the Columns, Fill in the blanks, image-based, and comprehension-based. The SEED 2026 paper will contain a mix of questions related to Visual Sensitivity and Judgement, Observational, Perceptual, and Reasoning abilities, Problem-Solving, Basic knowledge of Logic of Science and Mathematics, Art, Craft and Culture, Design and Environment. Q:   What is M.Des - SEED 2025 seat intake?
A: 

The M.Des program has an intake of 20 seats. The Symbiosis Institute of Design hasn't given any category-wise reservation.

This means all seats will be treated as open category.

The allotment of seats to the M.Des program will be as per SEED 2025 merit rank.

SEED 2026 Syllabus

The SEED 2026 Question paper will include questions on the following topics:

Visualization, Observational, Perceptual & Reasoning Abilities, Creative & Problem-Solving Abilities, and Application of Basic Knowledge of Science & Mathematics.

Syllabus for SEED 2026 

SEED is a Design Aptitude Test and would have the following topics. These are indicative topics, and questions might also be drawn from similar and relevant topics.

1. Visualization

Understanding and visualization of simple and complex 2D & 3D geometric shapes, their manipulations, and spatial relationships through representations in pictorial and geometric forms.

2. Observational, Perceptual and Reasoning abilities

Ability to read and see objects and information beyond obvious details, make connections, make comparisons, form opinions, draw meanings & conclusions. Analyze your observations, express your point of view, and present in a systematic and structured manner.

3. Creative and Problem Solving abilities

Ability to visualize and relate images around us. Ability to identify a problem and attempt to provide solutions.

4. Application of Basic Knowledge of Science and Mathematics

Some of the points to keep in mind while preparing for SEED 2026 are:

  • Given the nature and difficulty level of the questions asked, the candidate is advised to start their preparation in advance, say, around six months or so before the exam.

SEED Admission Process 2026

Admission to the B.Des course at the Symbiosis Institute of Design 2026 will be conducted in the following sequence.

  • Apply for SEED 2026: Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria have to fill out the form before the last date. As part of the application process, the candidate will have to get registered, fill in all essential information, upload documents, and pay the application fee.
  • Download the SEED 2026 Admit Card: Successfully registered candidates can download admit cards from the SID admission portal. On exam day, arrive at the exam center with the admit card and a valid photo ID proof. The admit card will contain details like the roll number of the candidate, the date and time of the exam, and exam guidelines.
  • Appear in the SEED 2026 Exam: The entrance exam will be conducted online, in remote-proctored mode, and include objective-type questions. 
  • Shortlisting of candidates for SEED, Portfolio Review, PRPI Task, and Personal Interaction - The result of the SEED written exam will be used to shortlist candidates for the PRPI round. As part of the Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) round, the candidate will have to upload a portfolio and PRPI task and participate in a personal interaction round.
  • Declaration of SEED Result/Merit List - The result-cum-final merit list will be prepared by giving weightage to SEED, Portfolio Review, PRPI Task, and Personal Interaction rounds.  
  • SEED Counselling and seat allotment - The allotment of seats will be based on the SEED 2026 merit rank of the candidate. Such candidates who have been allotted seats will have to pay the seat-acceptance fee and confirm their admission. If payment is not made, the allotment will be canceled.

Q:   Which is more difficult - SEED or NIFT?
A: 

NIFT is attempted by some 50,000 candidates every year and is considered the toughest entrance exams in the country, along with NID and UCEED.

In comparision, SEED is less competitive.

So, you have better chance of admission through SEED.

 

Q:   Will SEED 2025 exam be conducted in center-based mode?
A: 

The SEED 2025 exam will be administered in remote-proctored mode. 

This means, you are not required to visit any exam center to take the exam. Instead, you can appear in the exam from any place of your chooseing, provided you have a computer system and internet.

Note that you will also need to webcam. 

Q:   What is the total seat intake for the B.Des programme through SEED 2025?
A: 

The B.Des programme has an intake capacity of 180 seats (Indian nationals only). In addition, there are 27 seats reserved for international students. The candidate may note that the seat intake is however subject to approval from SIU. There is also reservation of seats for SC, ST, and Differently Abled candidates.

The B.Des programme is available in four specialisations - Communication Design, Industrial Design, Fashion Design, and Fashion Communication.

Q:   What is the admission process of SEED 2025?

Admission to the B.Desprogrammeoffered by the Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) will be in the following sequence:

  1. Filling of online application - Eligible candidates need to fill out the SEED 2025 application form before the last date.

The Symbiosis Institute of Design will conduct mock tests for SEED 2026 a few days before the exam.

SEED usually conducts two mock tests before the SEED Entrance Exam.

SEED Result 2026

The Symbiosis Institute of Design will declare the results of the SEED 2026 written exam within a few days of the conduct of the exam. The result will be released online at the admission portal of the institute. To check the results for the written exam, log in by entering your registered login ID and password.

The first merit list of SEED 2026 B.Des and M.Des will be released in the third week of April, 2026 for B.Des and the Third week of May, 2026 for M.Des.

Q:   Do M.Des candidates need to take a Studio Test as part of SEED 2025 exam?

Yes, the shortlisted candidates will have to appear in a Studio Test. SID will conduct the Strudio Test and Personal Interaction (STPI) from May 9-11, 2025.

Q:   How many times is the SEED exam conducted in a year?

The Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED) is a national level entrance exam conducted by Symbiosis International University. The exam is conducted once a year. The SEED exam is conducted as a home-proctored exam that candidates can take from the comfort of their home. The scores of the exam are considering for admission to the B.Desprogrammeoffered by participating colleges.

The application form for SEED 2024 will open around the 1st week of September 2023.

Q:   When do I need to pay the fee to confirm my SEED 2025 seat?

The 1st seat allotment cum merit list of SEED 2025 (B.Des) will be declared tentatively in the 3rd week of April 2025. Candidates who are allocated seats will have to pay the seat-acceptance fee on or before the last date. The fee payment schedule will be released by the Symbiosis Institute of Design on its admission portal - sid.edu.in.
