NID Entrance Exam 2024 - The National Institute of Design (NID) declared the results of B.Des DAT Mains 2024 on May 21, 2024. The direct link to check results is provided here. 

To check your result, log in by using your email ID and date of birth.

Candidates had to submit their campus preferences from May 21 (4 pm) to May 23, 2024 (4 pm). 

Meanwhile, the Seat allotment for Round I, confirmation of Seat, Payment of Fees, and Uploading of documents will be conducted from May 29-31, 2024. 

Earlier, the M.Des DAT Mains 2024 results were declared on April 30, 2024.

Note that the M.Des DAT Mains 2024 exam was held from March 4 to April 4, 2024. M.Des DAT Prelims results were released on February 16, 2024. Meanwhile, the B.Des DAT Mains 2024 exam was conducted on April 28, 2024.  

The results of B.Des DAT Prelims 2024 were declared on April 4, 2024. 

The FINAL results of the NID DAT 2024 exam are prepared by giving weightage to DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. The minimum qualifying criteria and weightages for NID DAT 2024 final results is OUT.

NID DAT 2024 (Prelims) exam was conducted in an OMR-based mode on December 24, 2024.

Q:   When will NID DAT Mains result be declared?

A:

The NID DAT 2024 results (Mains) for the B. Des programme were announced on May 21, 2024.

Note that the final results of the M.Des programme were announced on April 30, 2024.

The final result is prepared by giving weightage to DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. The direct link to check the results is provided here.

Note that the candidate was also given the opportunity to apply for re-check of their results.

Candidates who are included in the final merit list of NID DAT 2024 will be considered for admission to B. Des/ M.Des courses. The allotment of seats will be as per the merit rank of the candidate in NID DAT 2024.

 

Q:   When will the NID DAT merit list be released?

A:

NID DAT 2024 merit list or final results is being released separately for the B.Des and M.Des courses.

The FINAL results for the B.Des program will be announced on May 21, while final results for the M.Des program were announced on April 30, 2023.

The merit list will be released at the time of declaration of results.

The merit list is prepared by giving weightage to DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. Also, the merit list will be considered for seat allotment.

In case of B.Des candidates, candidates included in the merit list will have to submit campus preferences.

 

Q:   How can I check NID DAT results?

A:

Candidates can check the result for NID DT 2024 online following the link that is given on this page. To check your result, aspirants need to follow these below-mentioned steps:

  1. Visit the official website of NID
  2. Click on NID that result link
  3. Enter the registered email address and date of birth.
  4. On successful log-in, the result of NID DAT 2024 will be displayed on the screen.
  5. Download and take a printout of the result.

Note that scores of DAT Mains 2024 exam will be used to shortlist candidates for counseling and seat allotment.

 

Q:   When will the NID DAT 2024 counseling be conducted for B.Des?

A:

The National Institute of Design (NID) announced the final results of NID DAT 2024 for the B.Des program on May 21, 2024. Candidates who were shortlisted had to enter campus preferences as part of the NID DAT 2024 counseling process between May 21 and 23, 2023 (4 pm). 

The entries had to be in the order of priority.

To enter preferences, the candidate had to log in to the candidate portal. The seat allotment will be announced on May 29-31, 2024.

 

What is NID Entrance Exam?

NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the National Institute of Design (NID) to shortlist candidates for admission to the Bachelor of Design (BDes) and Master of Design (MDes) courses offered by the participating institutes.

Currently, the B.Des course has an intake of 425 seats and is offered at the following FIVE campuses - NID Ahmedabad, NID Andhra Pradesh, NID Haryana, NID Madhya Pradesh, and NID Assam. Meanwhile, the M.Des course offers 347 seats at its THREE campuses - NID Ahmedabad, NID Gandhinagar, and NID Bengaluru

The Design Aptitude Test (DAT) is conducted in two stages:

  1. DAT Prelims - The candidate first appears in DAT Prelims.
  2. DAT Mains - Shortlisted candidates have to appear in DAT Mains.

The admission merit list of NID DAT will be prepared by giving weightage to DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. 

Q:   How many candidates appear for NID DAT?

A:

There is no official notification on the number of applicants for NID DAT 2024.

However, as per unofficial sources, around 15,000 applicants appeared in the NID DAT 2024 (Prelims) exam. Note that only shortlisted candidates were eligible to appear in DAT Mains. The DAT Prelims was held on December 24, 2023.

If the National Institute of Design releases the exam statistics for the NID DAT exam, the details will be updated here. Note that the current session of the NIFT exam is conducted by the NTA. Now considering the NTA releases the exam stats, including the number of applicants registered, appeared, qualified - it is likely the details will also be released for the NIFT 2024 exam.

 

Q:   What is the difficulty level of NID DAT?

A:

The NID Entrance Exam is considered to be one of the toughest design entrance exam conducted in the country. In NID DAT, more weightage is given to subjective, drawing related questions. Thus, candidates need to be extremely creative and have a clear understanding of their concepts when appearing for the NID exam. In NID DAT 2023 for the B. Des programme, the DAT Prelims carried 40% weightage, while DAT Mains carried 60% weightage. During the DAT Mains, which comprises a Studio Test, the candidate is tested hands-on and have to show their drawing abilities, creativity, innovativeness, and material-handling ability.

 

Q:   What is the weightage carried by DAT Mains?

A:

The final results of NID DAT 2024 is prepared by giving weightage to DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

In case of the B.Des program, the DAT Prelims carries 40% weightage, while DAT Mains carries 60% weightage. 

Meanwhile for the M.Des programme, DAT Prelims carries 30% weightage, while DAT Mains carries 70% weightage. Note that DAT Mains for M.Des contains to sub-components - Studio Test and Interview.

Candidates who qualify DAT Prelims had to mandatorily appear in the DAT Mains. Or else, the candidate is not considered for admission.

Q:   What is the full form of NID DAT?

A:

The NID DAT translates to the National Institute of Design - Design Aptitude Test. The Design Aptitude Test has two parts - DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. The candidate has to first appear in DAT Prelims. If shortlisted, the candidate has to appear in DAT Mains.

Note that NID DAT scores are accepted for admission to the B.Des and M.Des programs offered by participating colleges. This means, the NIDs will not accept scores of no other entrance exams for admission purposes.

The DAT Prelims exam is typically conducted in January.

 

Q:   When will NID DAT counseling be held?

A:

The counseling for NID DAT 2024 is conducted separately for the B. Des and M.Des programs.

The choice filling (selection of campuses) for the B. Des programme was conducted from May 21-23, 2024 (4 pm). This will be followed by allotment of seats on May 29-31, 2024.

In case of the M.Des programme, there is no option to select campuses. Candidates were directly allocated seats between April 30 and May 14, 2024. Candidates who were allotted seats had to pay the seat confirmation fee and upload essential documents to complete admission formalities.

 

Q:   How many seats are available for admission through NID DAT 2024?

A:

The participating institutes of NID DAT 2024 offers B. Des and M.Des courses. The B. Des programme is available at five participating NIDs and has an intake capacity of 425 seats. Meanwhile, the M.Des programme is three NIDs and has a combined intake of 347 seats.

Admission to both B. Des and M.Des courses will be through the NID DAT 2024 entrance exam. The seat allotment to the above courses wlll be based on respective merit lists which will be prepared considering weighted scores of DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

 

Q:   What will happens if a shortlisted candidate pay the fees and uploads all the required documents, but fails to attend NID online counseling?

A:

In case, the candidate fails to report for the counselling, then his/ her candidature will be cancelled for that round. Such candidates, however, can still participate in the corresponding rounds. The only exception is for candidates who fails to attend the counseling in the last round. In such a case, the candidate will no longer be considered for admission. The counseling for NID that 2024 will be conducted separately for B. Des and M.Des courses.

Also, note that B.Des candidates will have to submit campus preferences as part of the counseling registration process.

Re-check of NID DAT 2024 (Mains) result

Candidates are also allowed to apply for re-check DAT Mains results. 

The recheck window is open NOW. 

The fee for submitting recheck requests for DAT Prelims was INR 2000.

Note that the DAT Prelims re-check will be restricted to:

  1. Whether all the answers have been marked.
  2. Whether there has been any mistake in the totaling of marks for each question in Part II of the answer booklet and transferring the marks correctly onto the first cover page of the answer booklet.

Shortlisting of candidates for DAT Mains

Candidates were shortlisted for DAT Mains based on their scores in DAT Prelims. Note that the National Institute of Design will release the category-wise cut-off marks for DAT Prelims

FINAL result of NID DAT 2024

The FINAL result is prepared by considering the performance of the candidate in DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. This means if the candidate hasn't qualified DAT Prelims or doesn't appear in DAT Mains, he or she will not be included in DAT Mains results.

Further, only such candidates who qualify DAT Mains will be eligible to participate in NID DAT 2024 counseling.

Q:   What is the frequency of the NID DAT exam?

A:

The NID DAT entrance exam is conducted once every year.

The exam has two sub-exams - DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. Candidates are shortlisted for DAT Mains based on their scores in DAT Prelims.

The DAT Prelims exam is conducted around December/ January.  The DAT Prelims exam for the current session will be conducted on December 24, 2023.

The scores of NID DAT 2024 will be considered for admission to the B.Des and M.Des courses offered by participating NIDs. The application form for NID DAT 2024 is currently open.

The last date to apply for NID DAT 2024 with regular fee is December 1; with late fees, application will be accepted up to December 3.

 

Q:   Do I need to select campuses as part of NID DAT counseling 2024 for B.Des program?

A:

Yes, all B.Des candidates who get shortlisted for NID DAT 2024 counseling have to summit their campus preferences. The window to submit campus preferences will open from May 21 (4 pm) to May 23 (4 pm). 

The preferences must be entered in the order of priority. 

Note that the allotment of seats to the B.Des programme will be based on the campus option selected and merit rank of the candidate in NID DAT 2024. So, one must bear caution when entering their preferences.

 

Q:   How can I download the provisional offer letter for NID DAT 2024 counseling?

A:

The provisional offer letters for the NID DAT 2024 counseling will be issued separately for the B.Des and M.Des courses. 

The offer letters for the 1st round of counseling for B.Des will be released on June 13, 2024.

To download the offer letter, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the NID admission portal

  2. Click on the Provisional Offer Letter link

  3. A log-in window will open

  4. Enter your log-in credentials

  5. On successful log-in, you can download the Offer Letter.

The candidate need to produce the offer letter at the time of admission.

 

Q:   Will there be a physical verification of document for NID DAT 2024 counseling?

A:

Yes, the National Institute of Design (NID) will conduct physical document verification for candidates who have been selected for admission.

The document verification process for the M.Des programme will be conduted on June 25, 2024. The schedule for the B.Des programme hasn’t been announced yet. It will be announced later by the respective NIDs.

Venue for the verification process - The NIDs will conduct the verification at their respective campuses.

 

NID DAT Counseling 2024

The National Institute of Design (NID) will conduct the counseling for NID DAT 2024 separately for the M.Des and B.Des courses.

Candidates who qualify in NID DAT 2024 exam will be eligible to participate in online counseling process. 

B.Des candidates will have to submit campus preferences as part of the counseling registration process; however, M.Des candidates aren't required to submit preferences.

The seat allotment for the B.Des program will be based on NID DAT 2024 merit rank and campus preference opted.  

Candidates who are allotted seats have to pay a seat acceptance fee of INR. 30,000.  

The 1st-semester tuition fee is INR 2,13,500 for admission to NID participating colleges; the total fee includes a non-refundable token fee of INR 30,000 and convenience charges.

Note that if the candidate fails to make the payment within the given deadline, his or her seat allotment will be allocated to the candidate next in the order of merit. 

Note that apart from the NID participating colleges, scores of the NID 2024 will also be used by other institutes for admission purposes. Take, for example, the World University of Design (WUD) will consider NID 2024 merit ranks for filling some of its UG and PG seats.

Q:   When will NID DAT cutoff be released?

A:

The National Institute of Design (NID) will release the NID DAT 2024 cut-off for the M.Des programme at the seat allotment, around May 2024. The cut-off will be released as rank and score of the last candidate admitted to the M.Des program. 

The NID DAT 2024 cut-off for the B.Des programme will be released separately, around June 2024. 

The cut-off will be released by considering factors like the number of applicants, seat intake, and category. Candidates who meet the cut-off for their category in their chosen programme will get admission.

 

Q:   What are the various factors that will be considered for preparing NID DAT cut-off?

A:

The cut-off for NID that 2024 will be prepared based on multiple factors like the total number of applications, the seat intake for the applied programme, the category under which admission is sought, and merit rank of the applicant in NID that 2024. Note that each of these factors are variables. For instance, the number of applications may vary from one category to another. Consequently, the cut-off would also vary. The cut-off represents the minimum marks a candidate needs to secure in his or her category to get admission to the B. Des or M.Des programme.

 

Q:   What is the minimum qualifying criteria for NID admissions?

A:

The minimum qualifying criteria for NID 2025 is the minimum marks the candidate needs to secure for admission. The category-wise cut-off would be released at the time of counseling and seat allotment. The cut-off would be prepared by considering factors like the total number of applicants, the merit ranks of applicants in NID DAT 2025, seat intake for the applied programme, etc. Note that if the seat allotment for NID that is conducted in multiple rounds, then a separate cut-off would be prepared for each round. And candidates who meet the cut-off criteria for that round will get admission.

 

NID Admission Process

The participating institutes of NID 2024 offer B.Des and M.Des courses.

Admission to these courses will be based on NID DAT merit ranks.

The step-wise admission process for NID DAT 2024 is given below, starting from application submission to the allotment of seats:

  1. Fill out the Application Form - Eligible candidates have to duly fill out the form and submit it before the last date. Use only genuine and verifiable information for filling out the form. Note that all information will be checked at the time of NID DAT counseling and seat allotment. If any discrepancy is found, the candidate may be disqualified.
  2. Download Admit Card - On the day of the exam, the candidate must bring with them the admit card and a valid photo ID proof. The admit card will carry details like the date and time of the exam, roll number, exam center address, and exam-day guidelines. Admit cards will be released separately for DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.
  3. Appear in DAT Prelims - DAT Prelims will be conducted offline as a paper-and-pen(pencil) exam. The full details of the DAT Prelims exam pattern will be outlined in the admit card.  
  4. Check DAT Prelims Result - The results for DAT Prelims can be checked by entering one's email address, date of birth, and roll number/application number. DAT Prelims scores will be used to shortlist candidates for DAT Mains. 
  5. Download DAT Mains Admit Card - All registered candidates will be issued admit cards that have to be downloaded online. After downloading the admit card, take a printout of the admit card.
  6. Appear for NID DAT Mains - DAT Mains will comprise a Studio Test; M.Des candidates will also have to appear in an online interview round. In the studio test for NID admissions, aspirants are given hands-on practical assignments, which they need to complete within the stipulated time.
  7. Check NID DAT final Result - DAT Prelims and NID DAT Mains performance are considered to prepare the FINAL results. Note that the final result or merit rank will be considered for the admission or seat-allotment process.

Q:   How can I secure admission at NID?

A:

Admission to the NIDs is conducted through the NID Entrance Examination. The NID exam has two stages - the candidate first appears in the that Prelims. Scores of the that Prelims are used to then shortlist candidates for that Mains. The final merit list for NID DAT 2025 will be prepared by giving weightage to that Prelims and that Mains. Note that the National Institute of Design hasn't yet released the weightage for the that Prelims and that Mains.

The NID DAT 2025 (Prelims) exam will be conducted in January 2025. Meanwhile, the DAT exams for the M.Des programme will be conducted tentatively in March, whereas DAT Mains for the B. Des programme will be conducted in April 2025.

 

Q:   Do I need to appear in both NID DAT Prelims and DAT Mains for admission to the NIDs?

A:

The admission to the NIDs is conducted through a Design Aptitude Test (DAT). The DAT is a two-stage exam.

The candidate has to first appear in DAT Prelims and then, if shortlisted, have to appear in DAT Mains. The final merit list for admission will be prepared by giving weightage to both DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

If a candidate appear in DAT Prelims, but doesn’t appear in DAT Mains, he or she will not be considered for admission. 

 

Q:   I belong to open category and am born before July 1, 2005. Can I apply for NID DAT 2025?

A:

As per the prescribed eligibility criteria, open category candidates seeking admission to the B.Des programme must be born on or after July 1, 2005. So, you are not eligible for admission.

Note that even General-EWS categories have the same criteria as general or open category.

Q:   What is the age limit to apply for BDes programme at the NIDs?

A:

Indian nationals who belong to the General and General EWS categories need to be born on or after 1 July 2003 to apply for NID that 2024. In the case of candidates belonging to the OBC-NCL, SC, and ST categories, candidates born on or after 1 July 2000 may apply. Meanwhile, PwD candidates who are born on or after 1 July 1998 may apply for admission. The candidate needs to ensure that meets the age criteria before filling out the application form. It is because every detail entered by the candidate will be cross checked at the time of counselling, during the document verification process. Any candidate found to be faking their eligibility stands to be disqualified.

 

NID Eligibility Criteria 2024

The candidate has to confirm their NID DAT 2024 eligibility criteria depending on the academic program they have opted for admission - B.Des or M.Des program.

Note that if a candidate is found to be ineligible, his or her candidature can be canceled at any stage of the admission process.

Q:   I have passed senior secondary exam from NIOS. Am I eligible for NID DAT 2025?

A:

If you have passed senior secondary exam from National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) with minimum five subjects, then you are eligible for NID DAT 2024. The National Institute of Design recognizes boards like CBSE, IB, ICSE, or equivalent.

The candidate must make sure that they meet the eligibility criteria before filling out the NID DAT 2025 application form.

Note that all details entered by the candidate in the application form will be checked at the time of counseling. If there is any discrepancy, the candidate may be disqualified.

 

Q:   Can Diploma candidates apply for admission to M.Des programme through NID DAT 2025?

A:

Diploma candidates need to meet the following conditions for admission:

  • Done full-time Diploma of 4-year duration after 10+2
  • Diploma in the following subjects is accepted - Design/ Fine Arts/ Applied Arts/ Architecture.
  • The Diploma must be done from a university or institute recognised by law in India.

Additionally, the candidate must have appeared in all the subjects and backlogs (if any) by June 30, 2025. 

 

Q:   I belong to open category and am born before July 1, 2005. Can I apply for NID DAT 2025?

A:

As per the prescribed eligibility criteria, open category candidates seeking admission to the B.Des programme must be born on or after July 1, 2005. So, you are not eligible for admission.

Note that even General-EWS categories have the same criteria as general or open category. 

However, in case of SC, ST, and OBC-NCL candidates, there is a relaxation of 5-years in the upper age limit. Further, PwD candidates are eligible for 5-year exemption.

 

NID DAT Syllabus 2024

You need to follow the updated and official NID DAT 2024 syllabus to prepare for the NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT).

The 1st phase of the NID DAT 2024 exam is DAT Prelims

The DAT Prelims syllabus for the B.Des and M.Des programs will include topics like color terminology, principles of composition, design theory, lettering, optical illusion, picture analysis, theme development, etc.

The candidate must make it a point to thoroughly prepare all the topics. In case the candidate gets stuck with a topic, it is, however, a wise idea to move to the next topic rather than wasting prodigious time.

Once the candidate has completed the other topics, he or she can always come back and complete the pending topic.

NID DAT Mains 

Candidates who get shortlisted based on their DAT Prelims have to next appear in the DAT Mains exam. 

  • DAT Mains for the B.Des program will include a Studio Test
  • However, M.Des applicants will also have to appear in a Personal Interview in addition to the Studio Test.

The Studio Test will be conducted in offline mode. On the other hand, the personal interview will be held online.

Important Instructions for DAT Mains:

  1. Candidates will be included in the final NID DAT 2024 merit list only if they take both the DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.
  2. The weightage for DAT Prelims and DAT Mains will be announced before the declaration of NID DAT 2024 (Final) Results.
  3. Requests for rescheduling the Studio Test will not be entertained
  4.  Admit cards will be issued separately for the Studio Test and Online Interview.
  5. If the candidate fails to appear in the online interview, admit cards will not be generated for the Studio Test.
  6. On the day of the Studio Test, the candidate must bring with them a hard copy of the admit card and a valid photo ID proof.
  7. Simply appearing in DAT Mains doesn't guarantee admission.

DAT Mains Components

The DAT Mains test for the M.Des program has two test components:

  1. Studio Test
  2. Personal Interview

However, DAT Mains for the B.Des program has only one test component: Studio Test. 

Statement of Purpose and Portfolio Review for DAT Mains

  1. Candidates who get shortlisted for DAT Mains will have to upload a Statement of Purpose (SoP) and Portfolio during the given window.
  2. The specific time/window for uploading SoPs and Portfolio will be intimated to the candidate by the National Institute of Design through the registered email ID/ result page.
  3. The candidate has to upload SoPs and Portfolios separately for each discipline they are shortlisted for.
  4. Format of the SoP - The Statement of Purpose should not contain more than 100 words for each question. The SoP should be uploaded as a single file (maximum size - 2 MB).
  5. Format of the Portfolio - The candidate has to upload a digital copy of their Portfolio in a single file (maximum size - 10 MB).

Q:   Is there negative marking in NID DAT Prelims?

A:

There is no negative marking in NID DAT Prelims.

So, the candidate may attempt all the questions. If the wrong answer is selected, the candidate won't be penalized. However, if the correct answer option is selected, the candidate may get some free marks.

Note that the DAT Prelims exam will be conducted in an OMR-based mode. The candidate will need a blue/black ball-point pen for filling the OMR sheet.   

 

Q:   When will the NID DAT 2025 syllabus be released?

A:

Candidates may note that the National Institute of Design (NID) doesn’t release any syllabus for either DAT Prelims or DAT Mains.

However, the institute will release the sample test papers for the NID DAT 2025 exam. The sample papers contain the questions similar to the ones that will be asked in the actual exam. 

So, the candidate may download and practice the sample papers to get an idea about the difficulty level, types of questions asked, marking scheme, weightage, and topics covered.

Additional, the candidate may download the section-wise topics for the DAT Prelims and DAT Mains exam that have been prepared by consulting previous years’ question papers.

 

Q:   What is the difficulty level of NID DAT?

NID Entrance Exam is considered to be one of the toughest design entrance exam conducted in the country. In NID DAT, more weightage is given to subjective, drawing related questions. Thus, candidates need to be extremely creative and have a clear understanding of their concepts when appearing for the NID exam. In NID DAT 2022 for the B. Des programme, the that Prelims carried 40% weightage, while that Mains carried 60% weightage. During the that Mains, which comprises a Studio Test, the candidate will be tested hand-on and have to show their drawing abilities, creativity, innovativeness, and material-handling ability.

The National Institute of Design (NID) has released the minimum qualifying criteria for the final results.

The NID DAT 2024 cut-off would be prepared considering the following points:

NID Application Form 2025

The application form for NID 2025 will OPEN tentatively in the 2nd week of September 2024.

The application is for admission to the B.Des and M.Des courses offered by the participating NIDs. The candidate has the option to fill out the form with both regular and late fees.

The late fee application window will close once the regular window closes.

Also, the candidate will be given the option to edit the NID 2025 application form. The edit option could be used by the candidate to make corrections to the application form. 

How to fill application form for NID 2025 entrance exam 

The step-wise process to apply for NID DAT 2025 is explained in brief below:

  1. Get Registered - The candidate has to first get registered by entering their email ID, mobile number, etc. 
  2. Fill in the application form - The candidate has to next enter their personal, academic, and contact details.

Q:   Is it necessary to upload the relevant category certificate for NID?

A:

Yes, if you belong to any reserve category, then it is necessary to upload the required category Certificate. The documents have to be uploaded at the time of filling out the NID that application form. Note that candidates trying to use counterfeit document may be disqualified at any stage of the admission process if caught. The NID DAT 2025 counseling will also have a document verification process. The counseling process for the B. Des programme will commence soon after results are declared.

 

Q:   How can I fill the NID DAT application form? Also, what is the exam fee?

A:

The NID DAT 2025 application form will open sometime in October 2024.

To fill the form, the candidate has to follow these steps:

The application edit window for NID DAT 2025 will open soon after the application form closes. Using the application edit window, the candidate will be able to edit details like their address, applied category, exam centre, etc. However, the candidate can't change the Programme Applied in, Name of the Candidate, Date of Birth, Registered Mobile Number, and Registered Email ID. A:

Yes, the National Institute of Design has reserved seats for OBC, SC, ST, PwD and EWS categories. For the OBC-NCL category, the combined intake capacity is 114 seats. Candidates who belong to the OBC-NCL category need to select their admission category at the time of filling out the NID that application form. Note that only genuine candidate needs to apply under the category, because every information furnished by the candidate will be checked at the time of NID counseling. Also, the candidate will have to furnish the relevant category Certificate to be considered for admission under that category. During seat allotment, OBC-NCL candidates will also be considered for admission under the general category.

 

Q:   What is the minimum qualifying criteria for NID admissions?

A:

The minimum qualifying criteria for NID 2025 is the minimum marks the candidate needs to secure for admission. The category-wise cut-off would be released at the time of counseling and seat allotment. DAT Prelims results for the M.Des programme was announced on February 16, 2024. Meanwhile, results for the B. Des programme will be declared on April 4, 2024. The direct link to check DAT Prelims results was given on this page.

To check your results, you had to log in by entering your email id and date of birth. Note that results of DAT Prelims were used to shortlist candidates for DAT Mains.

The National Institute of Desgin (NID) conducted the NID DAT 2024 (Prelims) exam on December 24, 2023.

 

Q:   What factors will be considered for declaring the final results of NID DAT?

A:

The final results of NID DAT 2025 will be prepared by considering the weighated score of the candidate in DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. Note that only such candidates who have qualified in DAT Prelims will be allowed to appear in DAT Mains. The National Institute of Design announces the weightage for the DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

As per the official notification, the DAT Prelims will carry 40% and DAT Mains will carr 60% weightage for the B. Des programme. In case of M.Des programme, DAT Prelims carries 30% weightage, while DAT Mains carries 70% weightage.

 

Q:   How many seats are there for NID admissions 2024?

A:

The seat intake for the B. Des course through NID Entrance Exam is 425. For M.Des course, 347 seats are available for admission at NID campuses. Apart from this number, some seats are also reserved for overseas (supernumerary) candidates. Admission to the B. Des programme at the NIDs will be on the basis of NID that 2023 merit rank and college option opted by the candidate. Meanwhile, M.Des candidates aren't required to select colleges.

 

NID DAT Admit Card 2024

The National Institute of Design released admit cards for the B.Des DAT Mains Studio Test on April 15, 2024. Note that the admit cards for M.Des DAT Mains were released earlier on February 22, 2024.

Admit cards will be issued to all candidates who have qualified DAT Prelims. 

To download the admit card, follow these steps:

  1. Go to NID admission portal
  2. Click on the admit card download link
  3. A log-in window will open
  4. Enter your email ID and date of birth to download the admit card.

On the day of the DAT Mains 2024 exam, the candidates must bring with them the admit card and a valid photo ID proof. Also, get the admit card duly signed by the invigilator and with the seal of the center. 

The M.Des DAT Mains 2024 exam was conducted from March 4 - April 4, 2024. Meanwhile, the B.Des DAT Mains Studio Test 2024 was conducted on April 28, 2024. 

The DAT Prelims admit card was released on December 12, 2023.

Note that the signed (with the seal of the center) DAT Prelims admit card will be required to 1) request DAT Prelims result recheck and 2) to download the NID DAT 2024 answer sheet.

The NID DAT exam is conducted for admission to the B.Des and M.Des courses. The B.Des course is currently offered at five campuses - NID Ahmedabad, NID AP, NID Haryana, NID MP, and NID Asaam. The NID DAT 2025 (Prelims) exam will be conducted in January 2025. Meanwhile, the DAT exams for the M.Des programme will be conducted tentatively in March, whereas DAT Mains for the B. Des programme will be conducted in April 2025.

 

Q:   When will the admit cards be released for NID DAT Mains?

A:

The National Institute of Design released the admit cards for the DAT Mains for the B. Des programme on April 14, 2024. The admit cards were released online at the admission portal of NID. To download the admit card, the candidate had to login by using the email id and date of birth. On the day of the DAT Mains exam, the candidate had to bring the admit card and a valid photo id proof. The DAT Mains exam for the B. Des programme was conducted on April 28, 2024.

Meanwhile, admit cards for the M.Des program were released on February 22, 2024. The DAT Mains exam for the M.Des program was conducted from March 4 to April 4, 2024. 

 

Q:   When will NID DAT counseling be held?

A:

The counseling for NID DAT 2024 is conducted separately for the B. Des and M.Des programs.

The choice filling (selection of campuses) for the B. Des programme was conducted from May 21-23, 2024 (4 pm). This will be followed by allotment of seats on May 29-31, 2024.

In case of the M.Des programme, there is no option to select campuses. Candidates were directly allocated seats between April 30 and May 14, 2024. Candidates who were allotted seats had to pay the seat confirmation fee and upload essential documents to complete admission formalities.

 

Q:   Is there negative marking in NID DAT Prelims?

A:

There is no negative marking in NID DAT Prelims.

So, the candidate may attempt all the questions. If the wrong answer is selected, the candidate won't be penalized. However, if the correct answer option is selected, the candidate may get some free marks.

Note that the DAT Prelims exam will be conducted in an OMR-based mode. The candidate will need a blue/black ball-point pen for filling the OMR sheet.   

 

Q:   Do I need to carry my own stationery for NID DAT (Prelims)?

A:

The NID DAT 2025 exam will be conducted in an OMR-based (offline mode). Note that exam officials will not provide any stationery inside the exam hall. 

So, you need to bring the following items with you: A blue/black ball-point pen (for filling the OMR sheet), scissor, glue stick, lead pencil (of varying grades), colors (such as oil pastels/color pencils/sketch pens, etc.) eraser, sharpeners, ruler etc. for the purpose of examination.

If any of you are wondering, exam offials will also not arrange for refreshments for the candidates.

Q:   Will the NID DAT 2024 exam be postponed?

A:

The National Institute of Design (NID) conducted the DAT Prelims exam on December 24, 2023. 

The exam was conducted as per schedule.

Note that only under unforeseen circumstances, the NID officials may change the schedule of the exam.

Also, note that the National Institute of Design has the authority to may any changes to the structure of the exam if it deems fit. 

For instance, the institute in unavoidable situations may conduct all the tests entirely online or offline, or as a combination of online or offline exams.

 

Q:   When will NID DAT 2024 (Prelims) result re-check window open for M.Des?

A:

The National Institute of Design (NID) announced results of the DAT Prelims exam on February 16, 2024.

If a candidate had any reservations against the results, he or she could apply for re-check from February 16 - 18, 2024.

Submission of re-check requests had to be done through the NID admission portal; the re-check link was provided here.

Candidates who have qualified in DAT Prelims had to next appear in DAT Mains, which comprised of a Studio Test and a Personal Interview.

The M.Des DAT Mains exam was conducted from March 4 to April 4, 2024.

 

Q:   When will NID DAT 2024 admit card (Mains) be released for M.Des?

A:

The National Institute of Design (NID) released admit cards for M.Des DAT Mains exam on February 22, 2024 (4 pm). The admit card has been released online at admissions.nid.edu.

To download the admit card, enter your email ID and date of birth in the log-in window.

The M.Des DAT Mains exam for the M.Des programme will be conducted from March 4 to April 4, 2024. 

The admit card will contain details like the date and time of the NID DAT 2024 exam, exam centre details, roll number, reporing time, and exam-day guidelines.

 

Q:   At what time do I need to report for NID DAT Mains 2024 exam?

A:

The B.Des DAT Mains Studio Test was conducted on April 28, 2024.

The details pertaining to the exam center reporting time, registration time, and exam timings, etc. were mentioned on the admit card. 

Note that the M.Des DAT Mains 2024 exam was conducted from March 4 to April 4, 2024. 

DAT Prelims comprises a Studio Test for the B.Des program. However, PG candidates were also required to take a Personal Interview. 

On the day of the exam, the candidate had to reach the exam center as per the reporting time mentioned in their admit cards. Note that once you reach the exam center, you also need to get registered.

NID released the following advisory for the M.Des DAT Mains exam exam that included the program-wise reporting, registration, and gate closing times.

  • One shift from 9 am- 12 noon and another from 2.30 pm - 5.30 pm. The duration of the studio test is 3 hours
  • The Personal Interview will be conducted from 9 am onwards.
 

Q:   What aspects will be covered by NID DAT exam analysis?

A:
The NID DAT exam analysis will cover the following points: Sectional difficulty - The difficulty level will be evaluated on a scale of easy, moderate, and difficult. Overall difficulty - The overall difficulty will be calculated by considering the sectional difficulty. The previous years difficulty level will also taken into context. The weightage of questions - The part of the analysis will examine the distribution of questions (or weightage) across various topics. Good attempts - This will be an indication of how many questions you need to attempt to be in contention for a seat. Expected cut-off - The candidate needs to meet the cut-off criteria to get admission.
 

Q:   What happens if I fail to qualify NID DAT 2024 (Prelims)?

A:

The results of the DAT Prelims included the qualifying status of the candidate. If the candidate had failed to qualify in DAT Prelims, he or she was not be eligible to appear in DAT Mains.

Note that the Desing Aptitude Test (DAT) conducted by the National Institute of Design (NID) has two sub-exams: DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

Both the exams are mandatory.

Also, the final merit list is prepared by giving weighatage to DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. So, if a can candidate fails to qualify DAT Prelims or doesn’t appear in DAT Mains, the candidate will be disqualified from the admission process.

 

Q:   When will NID DAT 2024 (Prelims) result be announced for M.Des?

A:

The DAT Prelims results for the M.Des programme announced on February 16 (4 pm). The result can be checked online at admissions.nid.edu.

Note that DAT Prelims result would be released for all candidates who appear in the exam.

The candidate can check DAT Prelims result by logging into the result portal using their email ID and date of birth

The scores of the DAT Prelims exam will be used to shortlist candidates for DAT Mains.

The National Institute of Design has also released the M.Des DAT Mains 2024 exam schedule.

 

Q:   What are the design courses offered through NID DAT 2025 exam?

A:

The NIDs offer a full-time B.Des programme of 4-year duration, and a full-time M.Des programme of two-and-half years duration. 

The institute, in addition, also offers a PhD program. The programme can be pursed full-time or part-time. 

Admission to the design courses at the NID is conducted through a Design Aptitude Test (DAT). The exam comprise DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

The final result or merit list is prepared by giving weightage to DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

 

Q:   Will I be allowed inside the NID DAT 2025 exam center after 9.30 am?

A:

The GATE closing time for both the B.Des and M.Des courses is 9.30 am (30 minutes before the commencement of the exam), after which no candidate will be allowed inside the exam centre. 

So, make sure that you reach the exam centre at 8 am (the official reporting time).

Note that you may have to go through security checks and registration. If you are late, then you may face a lot of trouble, which is not a good thing to experience on exam day.
