TNEA 2024 counselling: The Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) Tamil Nadu has released TNEA counselling dates. TNEA 2024 counselling begins on July 22, 2024

The TNEA Registration 2024 started on May 6, 2024. The last date to apply for TNEA counselling was extended to June 11, 2024. The tentative dates are mentioned in the table below. The candidates can check the complete schedule of TNEA 2024 counselling once it is published on the official website. 10+2 passed/appearing candidates can apply for TNEA counselling 2024. TNEA 2024 counselling process includes registration, assignment of random numbers, certificate verifications, rank list publication, and counselling. The counselling rounds will include steps like Choice Filling, Allotment, Confirmation of Allotment, Reporting to the College/TFC and payment of fees depending upon their confirmation. 

TNEA is a state-level counselling for seat allotment in Government and Government Aided Engineering Colleges, University Departments and Constituent Colleges of Anna University, Annamalai University. Also, the seats surrendered by Self–Financing Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu are allotted via TNEA. Admission will be based on marks obtained by the candidates in the relevant subjects, namely, Maths, Physics and Chemistry which will be reduced to 200 (Maths – 100, Physics – 50 and Chemistry – 50).

Q:   Who conducts Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions or TNEA?

A:

Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu conducts Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission TNEA 2024. Earlier, TNEA counselling was conducted by Anna University. TNEA counselling is a single-window process and admissions in Tamil Nadu engineering colleges are offered through such a process because authorities believe that such an initiative facilitates transparency. TNEA rank list is used to offer admissions to candidates in undergraduate programmes like Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in colleges of Tamil Nadu. Candidates must note that TNEA written exam has been scrapped as the counselling is based on Class 12 marks and therefore seats are allotted in the colleges through the TNEA rank list.

 

Q:   How TNEA ranking is given?

A:

In TNEA 2024, after normalising marks scored by candidates (across all boards), the final merit list followed by the TNEA rank list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the relevant subjects, namely, Maths Physics and Chemistry which is reduced to 200 Maths 100, Physics 50 and Chemistry 50). After the normalisation of marks in the relevant subjects in the qualifying examination conducted by different Boards, the qualified students shall be merged into a common merit list. The overall rank and community rank are published on the official TNEA website. A week is reserved for addressing applicants grievances after the publication of the rank. In case of grievances, applicants can contact the office of the Secretary, TNEA at the Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai 600 025.

There are 519 colleges in Tamil Nadu that accepts TNEA admission for B.Tech admission. Below is the list of top institutes which are accepting TNEA. TNEA 2024 Counselling: Rank List

The candidates whose names appear in the TNEA rank list are eligible for TNEA counselling rounds. After normalising marks scored by candidates (across all boards), the final merit list followed by the TNEA rank list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the relevant subjects, namely, Maths, Physics and Chemistry which is reduced to 200 (Maths – 100, Physics – 50 and Chemistry – 50). After the normalisation of marks in the relevant subjects in the qualifying examination conducted by different Boards, the qualified students shall be merged into a common merit list. The overall rank and community rank are published on the official TNEA website. A week is reserved for addressing applicants’ grievances after the publication of the rank. In case of grievances, applicants can contact the office of the Secretary, TNEA at the Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai 600 025.

The details mentioned on the rank list include the rank, application number, name of the candidates, date of birth, aggregate marks, community, and community rank.

Tie-breaking in TNEA counselling merit list:  In cases where more than one candidate has got the same marks in the common merit list, the inter-se-merit among such candidates shall be determined in the order of priority as specified below.

  • percentage of marks in Mathematics
  • percentage of marks in Physics
  • percentage of marks in the optional subject
  • percentage of total marks in 12th Standard Examination
  • percentage of total marks in 10th Standard Examination
  • date of birth (elder will be given preference)
  • Random number Assigned (higher value will be given preference)

TNEA Counselling 2024 Process

First, the rank list of the eligible candidates is published. After that, the TNEA 2024 counselling process starts. TNEA 2024 counselling has 4 rounds. Each round has 3 stages, the stages are as follows:

Step 1: Choice filling by the candidates

Step 2: Seat allotment

Step 3: Confirmation of choices by the candidates

Step 4: Reporting and confirmation of seat

TNEA 2024 Choice Filling:

A candidate will be given three days for the choice filling wherein the candidate will have to fill in their choices of colleges and branches based on their preferences and informed decisions. The order of choices is important. A candidate can fill in any number of choices.

TNEA 2024 Seat Allotment:

Allotment of the candidate will be based on the preferential order of choices based on their rank and the eligible seat matrix. Here is how to download the provisional allotments:

Step 1: Click on the Login button.
Step 2: Enter the username/password that you provided during registration.
Step 3: Press the Login button.
Step 4: After successful login, candidates have to find the "Open Provisional Allotment" button, now click on that.
Step 5: The allotment gets generated. Usually, it takes a few seconds to a minute, once it's ready there will be a "Download Now" link, click that to download the allotment.

TNEA 2024 Choice Confirmation and Option Practice:

During the allotment stage, If the candidate is allotted a seat, then 6 options will be shown for confirming the seat. The candidate must confirm their seat within 2 days from the date of allotment. Failing to confirm the allotted seat, the candidate will be taken to the next round. 

TNEA 2024 Reporting and Confirmation of Seat:

All candidates who are satisfied with the currently allotted seat and have opted for “Accept and Join” must download the allotment order and report to the college within 7 days and complete the admission procedure by paying the necessary fees. Non-admission in the college will be considered as not willing to join and the allotment order will be cancelled. All candidates who are satisfied with the currently allotted seat and have opted for “Accept and Upward” will be given tentative allotment orders. They must report to the nearest TFC and pay the tuition fees and submit their original certificates for holding the current seat. Nonreporting and non-payment of fees will be considered as not willing to join and the allotment order will be cancelled. Such candidates will lose allotted seats and will not be considered for further rounds of counselling.

TNEA 2024 Counselling: Choice confirmation options available

Once the candidates are allotted seats in TNEA counselling, they have the choice to practice various confirmation options. There are 6 available options with the candidates described below:

1. Accept and Join

A candidate who is satisfied with the seat allotted can download the provisional allotment order and can report to the college on the specified date for admission. The candidate will lose his/her allotted seat if failed to report to the college. Such not-reported candidates cannot participate in any subsequent rounds.
2. Accept and Upward

A candidate is satisfied with the seat allotted but wishes to wait for allotment in the higher order of his/her choice in the ensuing upward movement. For example, if the candidate is allotted a seat for choice 5, he/she can wait for choice 1,2,3,4. In case no better choice is available in an upward movement, then the candidate is confirmed with the previously allotted choice 5.
3. Decline and Upward

A Candidate is not satisfied with the allotted seat, therefore, he/she declines the allotment but prefers to wait for allotment in the higher order of his/her choice in the ensuing upward movement. If he/she is unable to get his/her preferred allotment in an upward movement, then the candidate will be moved to the next round.
4. Decline and move to the next round

A candidate is not satisfied with the allotted seat. Also, candidates do not wish to wait for upward movement and he/she is willing to participate in the next round.

5. Decline and Quit

A candidate is not satisfied with the allotted seat and he/she does not wish to participate in subsequent rounds also.

6. Upward or move to the next round

If ‘no seat’ is allotted to the candidate based on all the choices, then this option will be shown. Such ‘no seat’ allotted candidates can opt for upward movement. In case, a seat is available during upward movement, it will be allotted. If no seats are available during upward movement, then the candidate will be moved to the next round. 

TNEA 2024 Counselling Cutoff

TNEA cut-off 2024 is released by the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE). The authority releases TNEA 2024 community-wise cutoffs for all the candidates. TNEA cut-off score is the minimum mark that candidates have to secure to be eligible for admission to BTech courses. Eligible candidates for TNEA 2024 are called seat allotment based on TNEA 2024 cut-off marks and availability of seats in the TNEA participating colleges. The TNEA 2024 cut-off admission scores will also be released after each round of counselling on the official website. TNEA cutoffs are different for all the categories depending on various exam factors.

Q:   What are the Sandwich Courses in B.Tech for admission in TNEA?

A:
In B.Tech, sandwich courses in Production Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical, and Electronics Engineering are offered at PSG College of Technology under a self-financing scheme. There are 519 colleges in Tamil Nadu that accepts TNEA admission for B.Tech admission. A:

Check below the steps on how to fill choices in TNEA 2024 counselling: Add/Remove Choices: Candidates have to choose carefully their preferences for getting a seat in a branch in an institution. Based on the availability of seats, rank, and community, candidates will be allotted. Candidates must prepare a list of choices in the order of preference to enter the choices in the order preference correctly and quickly. Choice Entry and Locking of Choices will be available for 3 days, 3rd day until 5.00 pm. All the above processes can be completed from anywhere, from your home if you have a facility or you can avail of the facility of TFC. Choice Entry and Locking of Choices (3 days, 3rd day until 5.00 pm. Adding choices - On the top Navigation Bar, candidates will SEE the link for Add Choices. Using this, candidates can create a list of branches and colleges. This choice list or preference list should finally be in the order of candidate preference. By clicking, add choices, the following screen will appear on the screen. Choice by District Entering the name of the District in the list box field Choice by Branch Name Entering the name of the Branch Name in the text box field Choice by College Code Entering the name of the College Code in the text box field Choice by College Name Entering the name of the College Name in the text box field.

 

Q:   Are other state students who have not studied in Tamil Nadu eligible for applying TNEA (Tamil Nadu engineering admissions)?

A:
According to the conducting board of TNEA if you have studied from 8th to 12th in other states. You will be considered eligible if satisfy any of the below mentioned criteria. 1. If you are a student born and native to Tamilnadu but studied in other state, must provide a digitally signed Nativity certificate belonging to Tamil Nadu government. 2. If you are a student belonging from other state belonging to BC category. 3. If you are a student belonging from other state and your father is a Central Government Employee working in Tamilnadu and must provide a digitally signed Residence certificate.

Q:   What is the TNEA supplementary counselling?

A:
The Tamil Nadu engineering admission supplementary counselling is conducted by TNEA after normal counseling. TNEA Supplementary Counseling process is done for those students who failed their 12th grade. This is done later so that these students can pass and attend admission counselling again. However, anyone can participate in this counselling. TNEA-qualified students can attend this counselling even after getting a college allocation and making a fee payment if they want to change colleges. This supplementary counselling process is done after the 4th round of TNEA counseling. Also, those students who had joined other courses, such as arts, but now want to change to engineering can attend this counselling to get into an engineering college. The procedure is similar to regular TNEA counseling, and you just have to register again after the date announcement.

For example, if the candidate is allotted a seat for choice 5, he/she can wait for choice 1,2,3,4. In case no better choice is available in an upward movement, then the candidate is confirmed with the previously allotted choice 5.
 

Q:   What to do after TNEA seat allotment?

A:
