What is SSC CGL?

SSC CGL is a national-level exam conducted by Staff Selection Commission (SSC) to shortlist candidates for Group-B and -C posts in various ministries/departments/organisations of the Government of India. Every year, about 30 lakh candidates fill the SSC CGL application form and about 15 lakh aspirants appear for the exam. SSC CGL notification 2020-21 was released on December 29, 2020.

The Staff Selection Commission conducts the exam in four stages called tiers. The first two tiers of the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam are conducted in online mode. The next two tiers of the exam are held in offline mode. Check SSC CGL exam pattern.

With the approval of the National Recruitment Agency (NRA) by the Union Cabinet, NRA CET 2021 (NRA Common Eligibility Test 2021) will be conducted by the agency to replace the tier-I papers of SSC, IBPS and RRB exams. However, the exact details on when the first-ever NRA CET will be conducted are yet to be out. SSC CGL 2020-21 Exam Update

SSC CGL 2020 notification out

The Staff Selection Commission had released the SSC CGL 2020-21 notification on December 29. Along with the notification, the Commission had also released the SSC CGL 2020-21 application form. Candidates could apply online for SSC CGL 2021 exam till January 31.  The SSC CGL tier-I 2021 exam will be conducted from May 29 to June 7.

SSC CGL 2019 Result Tier II Declared

SSC CGL 2019 (Tier-II) Answer Key was released on February 28. The SSC also released the question paper along with the SSC CGL Answer Key. Earlier, the SSC CGL 2019 Tier II Result was declared on February 19, 2021. The CGL Tier II exam was conducted from November 15 to 18, 2020 and the Tier III exam (Descriptive exam) was conducted on November 22 across the nation. On the basis of the marks secured in the Tier-I and Tier-II exam, candidates were selected for the evaluation of the Tier III exam. A total of 43896 candidates were declared qualified under three different lists (for different posts). The marks of the candidates will be declared after the Tier III results. The final answer key for the Tier-II will be released on the official website of SSC on February 28.

SSC CGL date 2018 for document verification round had been released. The SSC CGL 2018 document verification round commenced from January 27, 2021 onwards.  SSC CGL skill test 2018 was conducted from December 18-19, 2020.  The final SSC CGL result 2018 will be out on March 31, 2021. 

SSC CGL Tier-III 2018-19 marks were released by Staff Selection Commission on October 7. SSC CGL result 2018 for tier-III was announced by the Commission on September 30. The SSC CGL tier-III 2018 exam was conducted on December 29, 2019.

SSC CGL Eligibility 2021

SSC CGL 2021 eligibility criteria vary as per the post applied by the candidate. However, given below is the basic criteria that candidates need to fulfill in order to meet SSC CGL eligibility:

  • Nationality/citizenship: A candidate must be either a citizen of India, a person of India origin, subject of Nepal/Bhutan or a Tibetan refugee
  • Age limit: A candidate should be between 18 and 32 years in age
  • Educational qualification: A candidate should complete bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or institute

SSC CGL Application Form 2021

SSC CGL application form 2021 filling process closed on January 31. However, candidates could pay SSC CGL application fee in online mode till February 2, 2021 and in offline mode till February 6, 2021. The SSC CGL application form was released by Staff Selection Commission on December 29, 2020. 

How to Fill SSC CGL Application Form?

Candidates could fill SSC CGL 2021 application form on the official website of the Commission in two parts - registration and application. The steps to fill the application form are given below.

Step 1: Visit the official website of SSC - ssc.nic.in.

Step 2: Click on the 'New User? Register Now 'link. 

Step 3: Fill the SSC CGL registration form.

Step 4: Login to the registered account using registration number (generated at the time of registration) and password (set at the time of registration).

Step 5: Fill all details asked in the SSC CGL application form.

Step 6: Upload scanned images of photo and signature and other important documents, if applicable. 

Step 7: Review the SSC online form carefully and click on the Final Submit button.

Step 8: Pay SSC CGL application fee of Rs 100 in online or offline mode.

SSC CGL Application Fee

Candidates could pay SSC CGL application fee of Rs 100 in online or offline mode via SBI challan/BHIM UPI/internet banking/credit card/debit card. However, all females and candidates belonging to reserved categories such as Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Persons with Disability (PwD) and Ex-Servicemen (ESM) were exempted from the application fee payment.  

SSC CGL Result 2019-20 for Tier-II

SSC CGL 2019 result for the tier-II exam was announced on February 19, 2021. Along with the result, the Commission also released SSC CGL cutoff  but the final answer key for SSC CGL Tier-II will be released on February 28 for the period of one month.
The SSC CGL result will be announced in the form of a merit list on the official website of the exam. Candidates will be able to check the SSC CGL final answer key by logging into their registered accounts. 
The provisional SSC CGL answer key 2020 was released by Staff Selection Commission on November 27. Along with the answer key, the Commission had also released candidates' response sheets. Candidates could challenge the tentative SSC CGL answer key till December 12 (6:00 PM).  

SSC CGL 2021 Recruitment Process

SSC CGL recruitment process 2021 includes the following stages/tiers:

  • SSC CGL application form: Firstly, candidates need to fill the SSC CGL application form in online mode on the official website of the commission. The SSC CGL application fee is Rs 100.
  • SSC CGL tier-I admit card: All candidates whose applications are accepted by Staff Selection Commission can then download their SSC CGL admit card for tier-I exam from the official regional websites of the commission as per the prescribed schedule. 
  • SSC CGL tier-I exam: SSC CGL tier-I is a computer-based exam that contains objective-type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) of 200 marks. 
  • SSC CGL tier-I result: SSC CGL result is declared by Staff Selection Commission on its official website. The result contains the names and/or roll numbers of candidates qualifying the tier-I exam. Candidates clearing the tier-I paper are called to appear for tier-II exam.
  • SSC CGL tier-II admit card: All qualifying candidates can download their SSC CGL admit card for tier-II from the official regional websites. The admit card is typically released about one week before the exam. 
  • SSC CGL tier-II exam: SSC CGL tier-II is again a computer-based exam that is divided into four papers. Each paper contains 100 MCQs of 200 marks. 
  • SSC CGL tier-II result: SSC CGL result for tier-II is declared on the official website of the commission in the form of a merit list. Candidates clearing the tier-II exam are called to appear for tier-III paper.
  • SSC CGL tier-III admit card: All qualifying candidates again need to download their CGL admit card from the regional SSC websites as per the prescribed schedule.
  • SSC CGL tier-III exam: SSC CGL tier-III is a pen-and-paper based exam that is descriptive in nature. 
  • SSC CGL tier-III result: Similar to tier-I and -II result, candidates can check SSC CGL result for tier-III also in online mode on the official website. Candidates clearing the tier-III exam need to appear for the final stage – tier-IV.
  • SSC CGL tier-IV admit card: Like admit card for other tiers, SSC CGL tier-IV admit card is also available for download on the regional websites of Staff Selection Commission,
  • SSC CGL tier-IV exam: In tier-IV, SSC conducts either a computer proficiency test, skill test or document verification, as per the post applied by the candidate. SSC CGL tier-IV is only a qualifying paper. It means that marks scored by candidates in tier-IV are not calculated at the time of declaration of final result. 
  • Final SSC CGL result: Final SSC CGL result is announced based on candidates' performance in tier-I, tier-II and tier-III exams. All qualifying candidates are then allotted Group-B and -C posts in various ministries/departments/organisations of the Government of India.

SSC CGL vacancy list is released by Staff Selection Commission every year. SSC CGL vacancies 2020-21 have not been released by the commission yet. However, for SSC CGL 2019-20, total 9,488 vacancies had been released. Out of these, 8,582 vacancies are for the major 34 Group-B and -C posts.

SSC CGL Exam Analysis 2020 for Tier-II

SSC CGL tier-II 2020 for Mathematics paper was conducted succesfully from 10:00-12:00 PM on November 15. The difficulty level of the paper was similar to previous years' papers - moderate. Decent number of questions were asked from almost all the important topics such as Trigonometry, Geometry, Mensuration, Simple and Compound Interest, etc. The expected SSC CGL cutoff 2020 for tier-II Mathematics paper is 130-140 marks.

SSC CGL tier-II 2020 for English paper was conducted succesfully in the second shift (3:00-5:00 PM) on November 15. Most of the students found SSC CGL English easy. SSC CGL Exam Analysis 2020 for Tier-I

The SSC CGL tier-I 2019-20 exam was conducted from March 3-9, 2020 at different test centres across India. The exam was conducted in online mode as a computer-based test in three shifts per day.

Not mandatory for each post. For post like -
- Junior Statistical officer
- Assistant Audit Officer
Maths /stats is mandatory.

For most of the post it is just graduation. But for post like statical officer you need statics or maths. For SSC CGL there is not any pre defined perfect subject combination but having any two/three from these combination is always good for future -- History, Geography, Economics Maths, statisti...For most of the post it is just graduation. But for post like statical officer you need statics or maths. For SSC CGL there is not any pre defined perfect subject combination but having any two/three from these combination is always good for future -
- History, Geography, Economics Maths, statistics, law. As these subjects knowledge is an added advantage in government jobs. For Assistant Audit officer CA CS MBA are desirable
For Junior Statistical Officer - Maths / stats
For compiler post - graduation with Maths/ stats/ economics
For all other post - graduation from any discipline. So it is good to have studied economics, statistics, maths, at graduation to be eligible for various posts but not necessary for every post.
