CAT 2022 result was announced on December 21. The CAT result cum scorecard 2022 is available for download at the iimcat website. The CAT result is usually announced in the first week of January, but this year, IIM Bangalore, the exam conducting institute released the scorecards in December. 

Out of over 2.22 lakh candidates who appeared for the test, 11 candidates scored 100 percentile this year. About 22 candidates have scored 99.99 percentile. Among the 11 toppers, 10 are from non-engineering background, which is a first in the CAT exam.

Almost all the IIMs have released their PI shortlist form and applications are underway. This year, IIM Udaipur will be conducting the IIM CAP for the 9 new IIMs. Applications for admission through CAT 2022 is also underway at the IIT-DoMs, IMT, MDI, FMS and other top MBA colleges in India. Registrations for CAT 2023 will begin in August. 

What is CAT Exam?

Common Admission Test or CAT exam is a national level management aptitude test, that a candidate has to clear for admission to the MBA courses offered by 20 IIMs and over 1,200 B-schools in India. Over two lakh candidates apply for the CAT exam every year which is conducted in computer based mode for two hours. The CAT question paper comprises MCQs & non-MCQs from Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Quantitative Ability (QA). Difficulty level of the exam is moderate to high. Apart from MBA programmes, the CAT score is valid for admission to Executive MBA, PhD and FPM programmes.

CAT 2022 exam result was declared on December 21. The CAT 2022 exam scorecard is available in downloadable PDF format, which can be accessed on the CAT 2022 website by using login ID and password. CAT Answer Key 2022

CAT answer key 2022 and candidate response sheet was released on December 1 and was available for download till December 4. The response sheet will help candidates in estimating the raw score. Check the steps to download CAT 2022 answer key from the official website:

  • Visit the official website of CAT 2022 (iimcat.ac.in)
  • Click on the 'login' tab
  • Enter CAT login ID and password
  • Click on 'CAT 2022 answer key' will appear on the screen
  • Click on 'download' icon to save it as PDF

The answer key objection window was open from December 1 to 4. Candidates had to fill an online form, upload a supporting document to prove the object is valid and requisite fee.

CAT Exam Analysis 2022

CAT exam analysis 2022 for slot 1, 2 and 3 are now available. As per the analysis by experts, the CAT 2022 exam was of moderate difficulty in all three slots. The VARC and DILR sections were easy to moderate, whereas Quantitative Aptitude section was moderate. Like last year, this year too the QA section was dominated by Arithmetic in all the three slots. Simliarly, in VARC section, Reading Comprehension has mode weightage than Verbal Ability. The DILR section had 10 questions each for Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning.

CAT Eligibility Criteria 2022

The minimum eligibility criteria for CAT exam is graduation in any stream. Read below detailed CAT eligibility criteria:

  • Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree with minimum 50 per cent aggregate or equivalent CGPA (45 per cent aggregate for SC, ST and PWD/DA category) from a recognised university to appear in CAT 2022.
  • Candidates who have completed a professional degree (CA/CS/ICWA/FCAI) with the required percentage can also appear for CAT.
  • Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification or awaiting the result are also eligible to apply for CAT 2022 exam.

CAT Registrations 2022

CAT 2022 exam registrations commenced on August 3. CAT registration last date was September 21. Candidates had to register at the iimcat website to fill the online application form. Check below CAT registration and application process 2022:

  • Click on new registration
  • Enter name, date of birth, nationality, phone number and email ID to register
  • Log in with the ID received in email to fill the application form
  • Enter personal and academic details
  • Upload a passport sized photo and scanned signature
  • Select preferred courses and IIMs
  • Select preferred test cities
  • Pay application fee via credit/debit card or net banking

In 2022, the IIM Bangalore, reported an increase of 11 per cent in the total registrations for CAT as compared to last year. A total of 2.31 lakh applications were received for CAT 2021. In 2020, about 2.30 lakh candidates registered for CAT exam and about 1.97 students appeared for it. In 2019, about 2.44 lakh candidates applied for the CAT exam and 2.10 lakh appeared in the exam. The number of applications received for CAT exam 2019 is the highest in past 10 years.

CAT 2022 Admit Card

CAT 2022 admit card will be available on the official website for download from today 5:00 PM. The CAT admit card is a mandatory document to be carried to the exam centre, thus candidates must download a colour print-out of the same. It is advised to download two copies, as one copy is to be submitted at the exam centre. The CAT admit card 2022 has test centre location, exam slot, reporting time and other related information printed on it. Here’s the process to download CAT 2022 admit card:

  • Log on to CAT website: iimcat.ac.in
  • Click on 'login' tab
  • Enter CAT 2022 application number and password
  • Go to 'admit card' section
  • Click on 'download'

CAT Exam Day Guidelines

Like last year, CAT 2022 exam will be conducted by following COVID-19 guidelines. Read below CAT exam day guidelines, documents to carry and items prohibited at the CAT 2022 exam centre.

Documents to carry

Candidates appearing for the exam must carry the following documents to the CAT exam centre to get entry inside the exam hall: 

  • Admit card: Candidates appearing for the CAT 2022 exam must carry two print outs of their admit cards with their photo affixed on it. Entry without admit card and photo ID will not be permitted. 
  • Identity Proof: Along with the admit card, candidates are required to carry a photo ID proof such as College ID (must be supported with a valid debit/credit card), employer ID, driving license, passport, PAN card, Voter ID or Aadhaar card
  • Name change document: In case a candidate changed their name, they will be required to carry a name change certificate/document

Items prohibited inside the CAT 2022 exam hall:

  • Calculator, watch, phone, iPad or any other electronic item
  • Bags and purses
  • Eatables and beverages
  • Jewellery and accessories that contain metal
  • Jackets and clothes with pockets
  • Closed footwear 

Note: Candidates with a metal implant, pacemaker, etc. in their body will be required to bring medical certificate of the same to the test centre.

What's New in CAT 2022?

  • CAT 2022 notification was released online a day before scheduled date. Until last year, the official notification used to be released on July 31 but this year, it was released on July 30.
  • The CAT entrance exam fee for General/EWS/NC-OBC candidates has been hiked from INR 2,200 to INR 2,300. For the SC/ST/PwD candidates, it has been hiked from INR 1,100 to INR 1,150.
  • The number of CAT test cities have been reduced from 156 to 150.
  • Among professional degrees acceptable, Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of India (FIAI) has been added to CAT eligibility criteria.
  • Imphal has been added as a test city for CAT 2022.
  • This year, candidates have to mention their COVID-19 vaccination status in the CAT application form.

Q: Which CAT exam slot is the toughest?

A: The CAT exam is conducted in three slots. Each slot has a unique question paper, with unique questions. The examination authorities prepare the question paper keeping in mind that none of the slots is tougher or easier than another. However, it may happen that one or two questions in a particular slot are tougher.

Q: How much percentile is a good score in CAT exam?

A: The worthiness of CAT percentile depends on the MBA college you want to take admission into. For a Tier 1 B-School, 95 + percentile is a good score, whereas for a Tier 2 institute, 80-90 percentile is a good score.

Dear, do not panic because there is always a way to reach your aim. The cutoff of the CAT was 98 - 100 percentile for the top college. You can expect the college like IIM Visakhapatnam, IIM Shillong.

The fees of IIMs don't reduce based on the CAT score as the CAT score is only an admission criterion. There are other scholarships in IIMs depending on the family income of the child.
