XAT 2021 result was declared today (January 18) and the admission cut offs were announced on January 28. The XAT 2021 was conducted on January 3 in online mode at various test centres in 72 cities across India. The XAT 2021 question paper was of moderate difficulty level and there was no change in the pattern of XAT exam. The XAT cut offs for XLRI's PGDM-BM programme is 95 for male candidates and 92 for female candidates.

What is XAT exam?

XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) is national-level management entrance examination conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur for admission to MBA/PGDM programmes. Apart from XLRI and 10 other XAMI members, over 700 B-schools accept XAT scores for admission to their post graduate management programmes. The XAT question paper consists of 100 questions MCQs from Decision Making, Verbal & Logical Ability, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and General Knowledge. The minimum eligibility criteria for XAT is given below. To be able to appear for the exam, it is mandatory to fulfill the eligibility criteria.

  • The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree of minimum three years duration or equivalent in any discipline from a recognized university

  • Students in their final year of Bachelor's degree or awaiting their results are also eligible to apply

XAT Exam Pattern and Test Structure

XAT exam is conducted in online mode and the question paper consists of 100 MCQs to be solved in 180 minutes. There is no sectional time limit in XAT but candidates are advised to set a time limit for all the four sections so that they can solve at least that many questions in each section so that they meet the sectional cut off. Each right answer carries one mark and each wrong answer carries -0.25 marks. Here are the highlights of XAT exam pattern

XAT 2021 preparation should ideally be of six-nine month long duration. Being one of the tougher MBA entrance exams among its peers, XAT requires dedicated time and effort. The exam comprises four sections: Decision Making, Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and General Knowledge.

In XAT, it is important to pay equal attention to all the four sections, sectional cut offs play an important role in selection to XLRI, Jamshedpur. So, divide your study hours among these sections equally. Start with gaining conceptual clarity on each subject. You may want to first analyse the topics you are familiar with. Make a list of your strengths and weaknesses, then begin with strong areas. This will give you confidence in dealing with tough topics.  Listed below are some key tips for making XAT 2021 exam preparation strategy:

  • Join study groups online on platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Telegram, Whastapp
  • Get hold of XAT books and study material. These are available online and at coaching institutes
  • Start with topics you are already familiar with and have good enough control on
  • After completing a topic or concept, always solve two-three problems based it to know if you have completely understood it

XAT Exam Day Guidelines

XAT aspirants must follow the guidelines set by the examination authority for a hassle-free exam day. Given below are some key XAT exam day guidelines candidates must follow.

  • Reach the exam centre an hour before the reporting time
  • Do not carry any electronic item like mobile phone, watch, calculator, etc. to the exam centre
  • Do not carry any stationary item or eatables to the exam centre

XLRI Selection Process Through XAT 2021

There is no centralised XAT selection process. XLRI, Jamshedpur admission through XAT includes three stages: shortlisting of candidates, group discussion & personal interview and final selection.

Step 1: Shortlisting of candidates

The candidates will be shortlisted for group discussion and personal interview round of XLRI, Jamshedpur on the basis of their XAT score.  

Step 2: Group Discussion and Personal Interview

XLRI, Jamshedpur will announce its group discussion and personal interview schedule for the candidates shortlisted for admission. The admission round will be held in various cities and the candidates will have to confirm their interview city online on the official website of XLRI within the stipulated time limit. Read more: XLRI admission & selection process

Step 3: Final Selection

Each candidate will be evaluated on the basis of their XAT 2020 score, GD/PI performance, academic history and other parameters for preparing the final merit list. Selected candidates will be called to complete admission formalities.

Institutes accepting XAT score for admission to their MBA/PGDM programme, conduct their own application and admission process. While some institutes open their registration window much before the XAT exam is conducted, others start their registration process after the XAT result is announced.

Q: For how many times is XAT held in one year?

A: XAT exam is held annually on the first Sunday of January. In 2021, XAT will be held on January 3 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Q: What are the COVID-19 relate guidelines for XAT 2021 exam?

A: XLRI Jamshedpur has not release COVID-19 related guidelines for XAT 2021 with the exam schedule. However, it may release guidelines closer to the exam date depending on the situation of the pandemic across the country.

Q: When will XAT 2021 result be announced?

A: XAT 2021 result was announced on January 18 on the official website. After the result shortlisting for GD/PI will begin.

Q. How many times can one attempt XAT exam?

A: XAT is conducted annually, so the opportunity to appear for it in the a particular academic year is only once. Howeve, one can attempt XAT exam any number of times, year on year. There is no restriction on number of attempts. 

Q. What are the scholarship schemes in XLRI, Jamshedpur?

A: About 95,000 candidates appear for XAT every year. Students from diverse fields and academic backgrounds appear for XAT to pursue MBA course at top B-Schools in India.

Q: How many candidates appear for XAT on an average?

Q: Is XAT tougher than CAT?

A: Yes, admission cut offs for various PGDM courses of XLRI are different. Check previous year’s course wise XAT cut offs here.

Q: Do XAT cut offs differ for different courses of XLRI?

A: Ideal preparation time for XAT exam is six to nine months. However, candidates must make their own exam preparation strategy according to their strengths and weaknesses.

Q: In how many months can I prepare for XAT 2021?

A: No, XAT exam has sectional time limit. Part 1 of the question paper is to be completed within 165 minutes and Part 2 is to be completed within 15 minutes. However, it is advised that candidate's time themselves in order to complete the test on time.

Q: Will there be any sectional time limit in XAT 2021 exam?

A: No, the candidates will not be given access to an on-screen calculator. The candidates will get paper sheets for rough work and calculations.

Some colleges already made it mandatory that minimum 60% marks is required in your Xth, XIIth & Graduation but many colleges only kept criteria of 55% 60% in graduation. Some colleges already made it mandatory that minimum 60% marks is required in your Xth, XIIth & Graduation but many colleges only kept criteria of 55% 60% in graduation. So, there is possibility you will get call from some of the top 20 B-Schools considering, your score in eligibility test like CAT/XAT will be 98%le and above. Also any work experience will increase your chances of selection.

CAT is the most acceptable test score then CMAT. XAT and GMAT are accepted by many b schools. If I have to choose one then CAT.
