Even if a candidate clears all section cut-offs (SMAS), he/she will not get a merit rank unless their overall percentile meets the MAP requirement for their category. So, candidates must focus on achieving good scores.

For those candidates who belong to the SC, ST, and Divyangjan (PwD) categories, the MAP is set at 75 per cent. The candidates will not get a merit rank if they get below this percentile, even if SMAS is cleared.

Candidates who belong to the OBC category must secure a minimum of 90 per cent in the overall NEST 2025 score to qualify for a merit position.

Candidates who belong to the general category need to score at least 95 per cent overall in NEST 2025 to be considered for a merit rank and admission. Candidates scoring below this, even with section-wise SMAS, will make them ineligible.

Candidates must go through the following educational qualifications to know whether they fulfil these criteria or not. 

Educational Qualification:

• Students must have passed the Class 12 examination or equivalent from any recognised Board in India in the years 2023 or 2024, to be eligible to appear for the NEST 2025 Exam.
• Applicants must come from the regular science stream in classes 11 and 12, with at least three main subjects as Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics.
• Candidates must have secured a minimum of 60 per cent aggregate scores (or equivalent grade) in their Class 12 exam. Those students who belong to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Divyangjan categories must have scored a minimum of 55 per cent.

The National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) 2025 is conducted once in a year for candidates who wish to get admission to the Integrated MSc program in basic sciences at the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar, and the University of Mumbai's Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS), Mumbai.
