THE Asia Rankings 2022: 17 Indian Universities among top 100; IISc, JSS, IITs in top 100

Indian institutions continuing their good run in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2022 have bagged 17 ranks in the top 200 this year. Four universities from India have been ranked among the top 100 with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore leading the chart from India.

IISc Bangalore has slipped five positions from its last year’s rank of 37 and has been ranked 42 this year with an overall score of 52. IISc is followed by another institution from Karnataka, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, which has straightaway landed in the top 100 this year and has been ranked 65 with a score of 48.2.

Indian Institute of Technology Ropar and IIT Indore are the other two institutions among the top 100 this year. There are a total of 17 institutions from India among the top 200, which was 18 last year.

In the THE Asia University Rankings 2022, as many as 616 universities from 31 countries have been ranked with India being the third most-represented country, with 71 universities, which was 62 last year.

Chinese universities continue to dominate the rankings with two from mainland China and one from Hong Kong among the top five. Tsinghua University has been ranked as the best university in Asia followed by Peking University as second and the National University of Singapore as third while the University of Hong Kong is at fourth and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore at fifth rank.

THE ranks institutions based on five broad parameters: Teaching (the learning environment); Research (volume, income and reputation); Citations (research influence); International outlook (staff, students and research); and Industry income (knowledge transfer).
