IISER Marks vs Rank is generally the data interpreation of the candidates who had appeared in teh IAT 2024 examination. Here candidates will be able to know the expected AIR rank/ category rank that will achieve based on the marks scored by them in the IISER 2024 examination.
IAT 2024 candidates' ranks will be based on their combined scores from the four sections (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology). The exam comprises 60 questions with a total score of 240 marks.
It is highly likely that IISER 2025 cut-off scores will increase for the academic session 2025-26, or at least remain competitive. Here's why, based on the trends and factors influencing IISER admissions:
Key Factors Indicating a Potential Increase in Cut-offs:
Increased Number of Applicants: Reports suggest a significant increase in the number of students appearing for the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) in 2024 compared to 2023. This trend is expected to continue for IAT 2025. More applicants generally lead to higher competition and thus higher cut-offs.
Consistent Demand for Top IISERs: Institutes like IISER Pune, Kolkata, and Bhopal consistently have higher cut-offs due to their strong reputation and high demand among aspirants. This trend is expected to persist.
Difficulty Level of IAT 2025: Based on last year exam difficulty, IISER 2025 exam difficulty level was easy. This can highly increase the IISER 2025 exam cut off from last year.
Following the previous year trends and as per the updates mentioned on the IISER 2025 official website, IISER do not release IAT 2025 cut off marks. However, the exam officials based on the counselling registration done for admissions by the candidates, the exam officials releases the round wise IISER 2025 closing rank list.
IAT 2025 cut marks are generally the minimum marks which the IISER 2025 exam test takers need to score in order to get admissions in the programmes offered by the participating institutes.

Commonly asked questions
IISERs and IITs are both excellent institutions, but they have different focuses:
IISERs:
Primarily focus on fundamental Science research. It also offers a strong foundation in basic sciences like physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics. This will encourage research-oriented learning from the beginning. But candidates may have fewer career options outside of academia compared to IITs.
IITs:
Primarily focus on engineering and technology. The organisation has a wide range of engineering and Science programmes. Also have a strong emphasis on practical applications and industry collaborations. Generally have more diverse career options, including in industry and research.
Which is "better" depends entirely on your individual goals and interests.
If you are passionate about fundamental Science research and want a strong foundation in basic sciences, IISERs might be a better fit. And if you are interested in engineering, technology, or have broader career aspirations, IITs might be a better choice.
IISER Aptitude Test difficulty level is comparatively easier than JEE Main exam difficulty level. There are four sections in the exam, and all have equal weightage. Mentioned below are the details for the same:
- Biology: This section might sound a tough nut to crack for the PCM students, but a reasonable understanding of class 11 and 12 NCERT concepts can help you sail through this section. If you are not familiar with Biology try to ace the Maths section. As the number of test-takers has grown over the years, this section has also seen a surged difficulty level.
- Maths: For the Biology students, it might be hard to crack. You need to focus on 11th and 12th class concepts. You can search for the doable questions and solve them. The level is usually at par or even above JEE Mains. The Biology students can cover the scores in their specialised section.
- Physics and Chemistry: This section is usually easier than the above two sections. The scores obtained here can make-or-break your chances for counselling. The questions in these two sections cover the fundamental and essential concepts. It is better to score well in these two sections. The sections are not really tough. They are far away from the difficulty level of JEE Advance.
Overall, the exam is far from easier than JEE Advanced exam. The Biology students have the advantage to finish their section quicker. Make sure your fundamentals are clear and your reasoning ability is good. This should be enough to secure a good score.
