Student Visa interview: Not mandatory for every country

Visa interviews are a daunting process. After completing the application forms and managing to get admitted into a university comes the process of acquiring a student visa. Most students are apprehensive of appearing in front of visa officers and answering their interrogatory questions. But do you know, not all the countries require you to be physically present for an interview?

There are many countries where a personal interview is mandatory, and there are some where you call skip the interview stage. Here is the information to a few countries and whether a personal interview is mandatory or not.

US – Mandatory

The US government has made student visa interview for prospective students mandatory. If you are applying for F1 visa, you need to prepare for the interview. This interview is primarily a clinical check to make sure only genuine students get to enter the US territory.

UK – Conditional

UKBA has reintroduced visa interview, so students applying for a UK visa may be asked to appear for an interview with the visa officers. Those who were once declined a visa or whose scores on standardised tests are low are more likely to be chosen for visa interview.

Canada – Conditional

Typically, there are no interviews for study permits. An interview may be required if decided by the visa officer. However, a medical examination is compulsory for the purpose of getting a student visa.

Australia – Conditional

Whether there will be an interview required or not, depends on the individual case of the applicant. There are a lot of scenarios, as follow:

1. Australian visa officers can call the student and interview him on the telephone

2. They can personally call the applicant to the high commission and interview him

3. They can write a letter to the applicant and ask for more information, as needed

4. They can send a refusal letter to the student without interview

5. They can give visa and a POV to the student without interview

Germany – Mandatory

All applicants have to schedule an appointment for a personal interview at the German Embassy. There are total five consulates in India, so the procedure for the Germany Student Visa application may be different, as per the consulates.
