Banaras Hindu University (BHU), formerly known as Central Hindu College, was founded by Annie Besant and Madan Mohan Malaviya in 1916. It is a public institution with a 1300-acre main campus situated in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, and the second 2700-acre campus at Barkachha in the district of Mirzapur. It consists of 140 departments, 3 institutes, 14 faculties, 4 interdisciplinary centres, 3 constituent schools and a constituent women's college. It also has six advanced studies centres and several specialized research centres. Also, Varanasi's four degree colleges are affiliated to BHU.

Banaras Hindu University Admission/How to get here

BHU grants admission to most of its programmes through the national-level postgraduate (PET) and undergraduate (UET) entrance tests conducted by the university during May-June each year. To take the entrance test, admission seekers will have to complete the registration process. Registrations usually start in February or March. Students are admitted based on the applicant's performance in the entrance test and the fulfilment of other programme specific eligibility criteria.

The university offers admission to B.Pharm. and B.Tech programmes based on the JEE score while admission to M.Tech and M.Pharm. programmes are granted on the basis of a candidate's GATE score. Students are admitted to MBA programmes based on their CAT scores as well as their performance in BHU-MBA entrance tests. The university gives admissions to PhD programmes either based on the candidate's performance in the National Eligibility Test (NET) or Common Research Entrance Test (CRET) score. Candidates are admitted to IMS through the Pre-Medical Test (PMT).
