Banaras Hindu University Admission/How to get here

BHU grants admission to most of its programmes through the national-level postgraduate (PET) and undergraduate (UET) entrance tests conducted by the university during May-June each year. To take the entrance test, admission seekers will have to complete the registration process. Registrations usually start in February or March. Students are admitted based on the applicant's performance in the entrance test and the fulfilment of other programme specific eligibility criteria.

The university offers admission to B.Pharm. and B.Tech programmes based on the JEE score while admission to M.Tech and M.Pharm. programmes are granted on the basis of a candidate's GATE score. Students are admitted to MBA programmes based on their CAT scores as well as their performance in BHU-MBA entrance tests. The university gives admissions to PhD programmes either based on the candidate's performance in the National Eligibility Test (NET) or Common Research Entrance Test (CRET) score. Candidates are admitted to IMS through the Pre-Medical Test (PMT).

  • Blind students are offered free dinner and lunch under the Annadaan Yojna as well as 20 blind students receive Rs. 5,000 per annum each.
  • Students who secure first and second ranks are granted an award of Rs. 4,000 and Rs. 3,000, respectively.
  • 100 students coming from economically weak backgrounds are granted a scholarship Rs. 2,000 per annum.
  • Pyare Lal - Prem Vati Memorial Scholarship worth Rs. 10,000 is awarded to the student enrolled in the MBA programme who tops the first year exams.
  • Dr S.N. Ranade Scholarship is offered to the academically best students enrolled in MBA Agri-Business programme.

If you want to be in core sector, Mechanical in IIT, BHU is good. IIT, BHU is a very old college, and branches like Civil and Mechanical are best. If you want to join non-core after graduation, opt for Chemical at IIT KGP. Placements at IIT BHU are very good in CSE and core branches.

Scholarships

All the blind students shall be entitled to get Free Lunch and Dinner under "Annadaan Yojna" of Shri Vishwanath Temple and also an amount of Rs.5000/- per annum per head as financial assistance to a maximum of 20 blind students will be provided.
An amount of Rs.2000/- per annum shall be granted as Financial Assistance to the students who are having the poor family background, subject to a maximum of 100 students.
A one time grant of Rs.4000/- per student shall be provided to the Physically Handicapped students for their entire course tenure, subject to a maximum of 25 students.
A maximum of Rs.5000/- shall be provided as Financial Assistance for organizing Seminars/Workshops, at the Faculty/Institute level, which should be beneficial to the students, subject to a maximum of 10 Seminars/Symposia/Workshops per annum.
