IGNOU Admission Overview 2025
IGNOU admissions process is usually conducted twice in a year. Students are offered admission typically in January and July sessions. The process includes various steps such as registration, filling out the application form, document submission, appearing for entrance test (if required) and fee payment. Candidates are shortlisted based on their merit in the qualifying exam scores. Candidates must meet the IGNOU eligibility and selection criteria for admission. For a few courses such as B.Ed, BSc Nursing and PhD, selection is based on entrance exam conducted by IGNOU.
At present IGNOU offers over 200 UG, PG, diploma, certificate and doctoral courses via regular distance and Online Distance Learning (ODL) mode. IGNOU admission cycle opens twice in a year i.e. January and July. The registrations for January session usually begins in December and close by March. The July session for ODL/ Online programmes begin in May and continue till July. The mode of application is online for all the courses.
Students receive their IGNOU ID card and study materials after completing the admission process. Once the admission is confirmed, students can download their digital ID card from the IGNOU Samarth Portal. However, students who wish to get the physical ID card need to visit the study centre or regional centre for the same. It may take some time.
The timeline for receiving the study material depends on the mode selected by the aspirants during the application process. IGNOU Eligibility & Selection 2025
IGNOU UG admissions are held in two sessions-January and June. The Open University offers BA, BCom, BBA, BSc, B.L.I.Sc, among various other courses across multiple specialisations at the UG level. Most of these UG courses are offered via distance learning mode for three years' duration. However, BPP and BLIS courses are offered for one year. The university considers the Class 12 scores of the candidates for admission.

IGNOU PG Admission 2025: Eligibility & Selection Criteria
IGNOU offers various PG courses, such as MA, M.Sc, M.Com, MCA, MSW and MBA across various specialisations. The selection to most of these IGNOU PG courses is based on the merit scores obtained by the students in their UG degree. While a majority of IGNOU PG courses are offered for a duration of two years and can be extended up to four years, the duration of the M.L.I.Sc course is one year. Candidates seeking admission to IGNOU for distance and online education can apply online on the official website. Step 1: IGNOU Application Process 2025
IGNOU application process is completely online. Aspirants fulfilling the eligibility requirements can fill out the form as and when the applications open.
Step 2: IGNOU Selection Rounds 2025
Students who have applied for B.Ed, MBA or PB BSc Nursing must appear for the required entrance and check if they've qualified. The university announces IGNOU results on the official website of the university. Followed by application, application fee payment and entrance, students who have completed their registration can check their status by entering their registration number on the IGNOU admission status page. The university also notifies students about their admission confirmation or rejection through an email and a text message in the next two months.
For other courses, IGNOU admission forms, submitted via the Online Admission System, are scrutinised and confirmed for admission subject to the fulfilment of eligibility criteria. These forms are processed region-wise on a first-come-first-serve basis. Therefore, the time required for the processing of forms for different regional centres may vary depending on the number of applicants from the respective region. However, the university claims that within two months, every student receives admission confirmation via email or on the student portal.
Step 3: IGNOU Admission Confirmation 2025
Once the university communicates that the student is shortlisted, students need to pay the course admission fee to confirm their seat at the university.
IGNOU offers fee exemptions and reimbursement facilities to students belonging to reserved categories, such as SC and ST. These students are eligible for Government of India Scholarships. Such students are advised to collect scholarship forms from the Directorate of Social Welfare or from the office of the Social Welfare Officer of their State. This form must be filled out and submitted to the Regional Director at the Regional Centre for necessary certification by the Regional Director.
IGNOU Fees 2025
IGNOU fee is cumulative of multiple components such as the tuition fee and one-time fee, etc. The registration fee is non-refundable. IGNOU accepts fee payment in online mode via credit card/debit card/net banking. After completion of the first year, students have to pay the IGNOU re-registration fee to register for the admission year till the course completion. IGNOU Fee Refund Policy 2025
IGNOU University has a pre-defined limited provision for admission cancellation and fee refund. The registration fee is not refunded in any case. In a case where admission is denied by the university, the programme fee is refunded after the processing fee deduction. The amount is transferred to the source account. Candidates who are selected for admission need to confirm their seat by paying the course fee. Here are few things that students will recieve after taking admission in IGNOU:
- Once a students get admission into IGNOU, he or she will recieve the enrollment number and ID for future login to the samarth portal of the university.
- Based on the choice made by the candidate while filling the application form, he or she will then recieve the study material. Soft copy is available on the official website of the university.
- Registered students also recieve a mail from the regional or study centre for counselling. It is an induction ceremony where the course is introduced to the students.
- A schedule of classes is also shared through mail. For any query regarding classes, students must contact their study centre.
IGNOU admission is conducted in two cycles, i.e. January and July. While the registrations for the January session generally get over in March, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) admission for the July session opens in June and remains open till Jul-Aug and sometimes even till September. The admissions are mainly based on the aggregate obtained by candidates in the last qualifying degree. Students who were not able to take admission in the January batch are open for admission in the July batch. Hence, the answer is almost yes.

To be eligible for the course, candidates must pass in Class 12 with Science subjects or its equivalent. The university follows a credit system for all its programmes including BSc.
