If you want to pratice as company secretary, you have to complete professional training and give examination. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India trains and regulates Company Secretaries. The ICSI conducts CS programme at three levels. After completing these three levels, candidates are issued a certificate to start practicing as Company Secretary.

Eligibility Criteria for Becoming Company Secretary
- Anyone who wants to register for the Foundation Programme or CSEET must have passed 12th standard in any stream (except Fine Arts) from a recognized board.
- Graduate candidate will only have to complete Executive and Professional Programme.
- Post graduate students and those who have cleared Foundation level of CA and Cost Accounting courses are eligible for direct admission to the CS Executive level.
- A candidate is considered to have passed these examinations if they score atleast 40% in in each paper and 50% in all subjects.
Company Secretary Examinations
You can take admission in the ICSI’s Company Secretary programme throughout the year. These exams are conducted bi-annually in both June and December.
- To appear for Foundation Programme examination in December, you should get yourself enrolled by March 31 in the same year. Those who wish to appear in the June exam next year, they must enrol by September 30 in the previous year.
- Those who wish to join CS in the Executive Programme level must enrol by February 28 to appear for both modules in the December exam. Those who want to appear in both modules for the June exam next year will have to enrol in August 31 module of the previous year.
- If you plan to appear in a single module in the June exam next year; enrol in the Executive Programme by November 30 of the previous year.
