With the onset of the academic year 2013-14, the Bombay Natural History Society has kicked off its popular online natural history courses in Biodiversity, Entomology (insect study) and Field Botany.

With the onset of the academic year 2013-14, the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) has kicked off its popular online natural history courses in Biodiversity, Entomology (insect study) and Field Botany. These year-long courses provide a first-hand learning experience about the chosen topic and exposure to the natural world. Here are details of these courses, which are a hybrid of online learning and field activity:

About the course

Leadership Course in Biodiversity Conservation, LCBC 100 is a hybrid course with online (asynchronous) and face-to-face (Synchronous) activities intertwined through the course work. The program encompasses online chat sessions with SMEs (subject matter experts), field trips and online learning through range of weekly assignments.

It’s a revised online version of the previous correspondence course - Distance Learning in Basic Entomology. The course encompasses online (asynchronous) and face-to-face (synchronous) activities and is developed by subject matter experts (SMEs). Asynchronous and synchronous are the same as the LCBC 100-Online course.

The course aims to popularise science of field botany and plant conservation with major objective to inculcate scientific approach in identification of plants, while appreciating the plant diversity around us.

Eligibility

Interest to learn about biodiversity and its conservation.

Basic qualification is S.S.C. with or without science background.

Other requirements include, proficiency in computer operation and internet browsing; willing to dedicate minimum 2 hours every day for course work.
