Learning Resources of NSDC
NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation) provides learning resources through its Learning Resources and Technology (LRT) team. This dedicated team develops and updates the structure as well as the delivery of instructional materials.
You can find the following.
- Free Digital Resources: There are more than two terabytes of free content for around 30+ courses, including PDFs, videos, and digital tools.
- eSkillIndia Portal: This is the centralised platform of the Skill India website, that aggregates learning content from various knowledge and training partners, including Reliance and Oracle University. Check out Skill India courses online provided under NSDC Academy.
- Kaushal Mart: This is the marketplace for all training materials collated at NSDC. You will find books, guides, PPTs, and training consumables.
- Kaushal ePustakalaya: An eBook reader app offering digital access to learning content for PMKVY trainees.
Types of NSDC Initiatives
These are the initiatives NSDC has been implementing for some few years.
- PMKVY (or Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana): This is the flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) that NSDC has been implementing since the last decade. The objective of this is to provide Indian youth with the right job-ready skill set.
- PMKK (Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra): This is for vocational training through different training centres across India.
- TITP (Technical Intern Training Program): It also facilitates employment mobility and more like on-the-job training, by signing MoCs (Memorandum of Coorporation) with major countries, including Japan.
Understanding NSDC Certifications for Vocational Training
NSDC certifications for vocational training follow the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF). The benchmarks are based on three factors
- Knowledge
- Skills
- Aptitude
There are also levels of NSQF, demonstrating how intensive the program is.
- Level 3 - This is equivalent to a 3-month certificate
- Level 4 - This is equivalent to a 6-month certificate
- Level 5 - It’s like a 1-year diploma
- Level 6 - It is equal to a 2 year diploma
- Level 7 - That is like a B.Voc degree of 3 years
- Level 8 - This is like a PG Diploma
- Level 9 - It’s equivalent to an M.Voc degree of 2 years after B.Voc
How NSDC Bridges Industry Skill Gaps
The National Skill Development Corporation has established SSCs (Sector Skills Councils). These are autonomous bodies that primarily aim to develop curriculum or courses that address the current the gaps what current industry requirements are and what all are required to develop to match those. These bodies also focus on trainers who need to have the latest knowledge on industry best practices through relevant certifications. .
Officially, there are 37 operational SSCs in sectors, ranging from Healthcare and IT-ITeS, to Automotive and Construction.
