Tips: If you're heading to Macquarie, the first thing you need to realize is that nobody is going to hand you success on a silver platter. The campus is absolutely massive and packed with incredible resources, industry connections, and clubs, but you have to be the one to actually get off your butt and chase them. If you just go to class and head straight home, you're going to miss out on the best parts of MQ. You have to actively talk to your tutors, show up to networking events at the incubator, and put yourself out there.
You also need to get a grip on your time management fast. The academic workload here can get incredibly intense, and if you don't stay on top of your weekly readings and assignments, you’ll find yourself completely buried before finals. You’ve got to learn how to survive the workload without losing your mind. It’s all about getting your study done so you actually have time to grab a cheap pizza and a schooner at the UBar, or just chill out with mates in the central courtyard. Everyone here is from completely different walks of life, so just show up with an open mind. Some of the best experiences you'll have will come from just chatting with people from completely different backgrounds who you'd normally never interact with.
Honestly, looking back, I'm so glad I chose MQ. The campus vibe and the modern facilities are top-tier, and the career support team is actually useful. The course itself has been awesome because it isn't just dry theory. They actually teach you stuff that is highly relevant to the industry today, finding a really solid balance between heavy concepts and hands-on, practical execution.
