What are the course deliverables?
  • Practical insights on the most relevant topics of water scarcity
  • Analysis of processes in the (urban) water management related to water scarcity
  • Overview of adequate technologies for water reclamation
  • Water saving in industry
  • Preliminary calculations for dimensioning these infrastructures
  • Practical recommendations for water resources managers
More about this course
  • Water is essential for human health, socio-economic development, and the provision of long-term environmental services. However, it is estimated that two-thirds of the world's population may face water shortages by 2025.
  • On this four-week course, you'll learn the best practices for mitigating and adapting to water scarcity. You'll gain practical insights and vital knowledge of water resources management and innovative water-saving solutions.
  • You'll also discover recommendations for water professionals in a range of industries including manufacturing, agri-food, and water utilities.
  • Through interactive materials, you'll be introduced to the use of reclaimed water in agriculture.
  • To develop your knowledge, you'll dive into the economics of water reuse, review wastewater treatment, and gain an understanding of the EU regulation on water reuse.
  • Natural processes have been disrupted by urbanisation and man-made water systems. As a result, water has been forced into the economically unsustainable linear model of take-make-consume-dispose
  • On the course, you'll learn how nature-based solutions can sustainably address these challenges. You'll explore different types of nature-based solutions to understand how to integrate them into urban water management.
  • Finally, you'll delve into how manufacturing industries can improve their water efficiency. You'll look at techniques such as adaptive management, digital and circular water use innovations, and water conservation.
  • By the end of the course, you'll have the skills and knowledge to understand how to tackle the growing threat of water scarcity.
