M.Sc. in Electronic Media - Batch of 2023
3.8
2Placements4Infrastructure4Faculty5Crowd & Campus Life4Value for Money
Decent infrastructure, friendly faculty, but lacks placement support and practical exposure.
Placements: Honesty, placements in our Electronic Media department are disappointing. As a rank holder at Anna University, I've seen a few opportunities for our course. The college doesn't provide much guidance or support, leaving us to fend for ourselves. Other departments have a good placement record, but ours lags behind. It's frustrating because faculty and infrastructure are good, but lack of placement support is a major drawback. We rely on our own efforts to find internships and jobs, which is challenging. It's tough to see our potential go untapped due to a lack of support from the college.
Infrastructure: Our campus has decent facilities, but some areas need improvement. Wi-Fi is restricted to staff only, which is frustrating for students. Labs are well-equipped with plenty of computers. Sports are a priority, and the canteen food is affordable with many options like Actech, CEG Canteen, and Chrolophyll Cafe. Snack shops are also available. However, the library is small. Smart classrooms are available but sometimes malfunction. Despite this, the campus is lively with plenty of food options and sports activities. Hostel is pretty good with some facilities excelling while others need attention.
Faculty: The teaching staff in our Electronic Media department is friendly, qualified, and knowledgeable. They're easy to communicate with, and we've had a great experience with them. The teaching quality is good, but one downside is that it's more theoretical than practical. However, we've had opportunities to work on projects like short films, documentaries, and department events, which have helped us apply our skills. The course curriculum is relevant, but could be more industry-focused. Semester exams can be challenging, but the pass percentage is decent. Overall, the faculty's support and guidance have made our learning experience enjoyable and valuable.
Other: I chose this course because not just B.Sc. in Viscom graduates, but anyone with a graduation degree can take it. I chose being a media lover and was drawn to Anna University's brand reputation. The best things about my course are the opportunities to participate in big events like Kurukshetra and Gateway, where we volunteer, participate in games and competitions, and even win prizes. These experiences have helped me grow my network and skills. One thing that could be improved is more practical training and industry exposure. Overall, it's been a great experience with many opportunities for growth and learning.

I like hostel life more as college is strict.
Placements: The students from 3rd semester were eligible for placements. Companies like Toyota, EY, Micromax, Accenture, KPMG, Delliote, etc., will come to hire the freshers. The highest package offered was around 20 LPA, and the lowest package was around 4 LPA. The percentage of students getting placed was 70-80%. My plans after degree were to work for 5 years in an MNC.
Infrastructure: Our campus was good enough to accommodate 2500 students including two colleges as we had two colleges under the same campus. Blocks were different but common facilities were shared be it library, canteens, sports ground, or the perpetual seminar halls. We had plenty at our campus.
Faculty: Faculty student ratio was around 1:15. Faculty members were so supportive of the students, and they would always respond to students immediately. All faculty members were good like Charitra ma'am, Jasmine ma'am, Ranjitha ma'am, Santhosh sir, etc. All the faculty members were the best. There was no faculty whom we didn't like. There will be semester exam after 3 months in the semester. In a semester, there will be 2 internals, 2 small tests which will be considered as assignment, and 1 project for every subject. The courses were good and connected to the industry.
Other: Our events like the tech fest Henosis also held there.

Good exposure and campus.
Placements: Around 70% are placed and many go for higher studies. The lowest package is 3 Lacs and the highest is 21 Lacs. A student recently got into Apple as well. Most students get placed as Software Development. Students also get mass recruited at the end of the placement season. Companies like Fidelity, Visa, Citi Bank recruit students here often.
Infrastructure: The department has working labs and classrooms. There is a common library for all students within and outside the nearby campus. You cannot connect to data on your mobile within the department, but they will provide students with Wi-Fi that can be registered with your laptop. The quality of food is subpar in the international hostel. It is very repetitive. Housekeeping is prompt. The medical center closes by 5 pm, so in case of emergency, you have to visit Malar hospital nearby. Sports culture is very strong here.
Faculty: Teachers are qualified but lack the ability to teach. The course is slowly being revised and is somewhat relevant, making the students industry-ready through mandatory internship/summer projects. Semester exams are application-oriented. Pass percentage is 45% if you pass in internals.
Other: I chose the course because I assumed it has good placement. There are many scholarships that are offered for different sections of society. The campus crowd is mostly Tamilians, with few foreign nationals, NRIs, and other state students. I wish the professors were more approachable.

The pride in sharing the greatness of Asia's oldest college.
Placements: In our course last year, around 81% of students got placed. The remaining students opt for higher studies abroad. So the remaining students do not apply for placements. The students are being given an enormous number of opportunities for placements.
Infrastructure: It is the best infrastructure available among the government colleges. The standards and the fees that we pay are very different. Though the fee is low. The infrastructure is very good. The greenery of the trees within the campus gives a good feeling to stay.
Faculty: Teachers are very much helpful and have a great experience in research as well as in the curriculum. The curriculum is very relevant to the needs of the industry. Semester exams are very easy to crack which makes me give four stars rather than five.

My college is a 10 for those who prefer exposure rather than infrastructure.
Placements: 50% of students got placed in IT companies and manufacturing companies, mechanical sectors as well. Remaining students focused on building their own company, and some of them are getting into higher studies. The highest package known to me was 18LPA, and the lowest is 4.5 LPA. Companies like TATA, Hyundai, Mahindra, CATERPILLAR, etc. Roles offered are mechanical, automobile, manufacturing, management, data analytics, etc.
Infrastructure: Everything is available, but the maintenance is poor. Wi-Fi is available, but it lags sometimes. Medical facilities are good enough, and the food is also good. But there is no proper maintenance of restrooms and infrastructure. The canteen still doesn't have Epay, but it is still in development. Cleanliness is at its worst on campus.
Faculty: All teachers are helpful, joyful, and qualified. Teaching is still like the old school. No advanced methods. It is relevant to what the industry needs, but still holds. 75% is the pass percentage, approximately. The semester exams are difficult but manageable.
Other: This course integrated Mechanics, Management, and Data Analytics, so I ended up here. The building is worse and can be cleaned, painted, or renovated. Events, fests, etc., are excellent. There are several scholarships that one does not need to worry about.

My Life Lessons at College of Engineering Guindy.
Placements: For IT, CSE, nearly everyone will get placed and their average salary is around 12 LPA, with the highest salary being around 36 LPA. For ECE, EEE department core companies will also come, but the salary is not lesser than IT. Their average is around 8 LPA. For civil, mech, and manufacturing, core companies will come and the average is around 7 LPA. Rare departments like printing, mining, some companies will come, some will get placed, and some will do higher studies. Even though they don't get placement, Anna University brand name and life experience will help them grow.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is not so good as private colleges. Ambience is good. Some classes don't have smart boards. Wi-Fi facilities are given only for laptops. Lab infrastructure is very good. Hostel facility is okay, but you have a very good life experience there.
Faculty: Some faculty members teach extraordinarily. Some faculty members don't have subject knowledge, but this helps us to improve more through self-learning. Without self-learning, you can't get good grades. The question paper is set by any one of the staff members who are handling the subject. Exams are somewhat medium to difficult level. Seniors will guide you more for placement, etc. Seniors also conduct special classes for students.
Other: I chose ECE because we can go for both IT and core jobs. Some department staff are not teaching well, and it is tougher if you don't follow self-study. There are many clubs, and it is mandatory to be a part of NSS/YRC/NSO. I am a part of NSS, which is a personality improvement course. You will be able to speak confidently and efficiently. Many clubs are also there. Each club has its significant events. CEG Teach Forum conducts Vyuhaa for freshers and Kurukshetra, an international-level tech event. SAAS CEG conducts AGNI in the odd semester and Techofes in the even semester. Those cultural events are the best part of your life.

Your chances of getting admission into the College of Engineering Guindy (CEG) for B.Tech with 60% in Class 12th depend on various factors, including:

It is encouraged to raise JEE Main scores, look into universities with lower cutoffs, or take a closer look at CEG's other branches.
