IIT Kharagpur's Vinod Gupta School of Management offers a two-year MBA degree in seven specializations and one micro specialisation. The Vinod Gupta School of Management's (VGSOM) flagship MBA curriculum is a residential programme for recent engineering graduates and those who have earned master's degrees in Science, the field of economics or commerce. The MBA programme has developed into one of the best in the nation, fusing the IITs' strengths in technical education with contemporary management philosophy. A thoughtful combination of lectures, case studies, group projects, and workshops are used as teaching methods. IIT Kharagpur offers a four-year BSc course along with a five-year Integrated MSc course across six specialisations each. Hostels at IIT Kharagpur are furnished with beds, tables, chairs, high-speed LAN ports, fans, lights and adequate electricity ports. The quantity of the aforementioned things may vary depending upon the occupancy of the room whether it’s single room, double sharing or triple occupancy sharing.

Also, some halls (hostel is referred to as hall of residence at IIT Kharagpur and hostellers as boarders) have washing machine facilities and some don’t. Laundry service is available at a reasonable price.

Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Hall of Residence is the largest hostel in terms of area and facilities. Lal Bahadur Shastri Hall of Residence construction completed in 2010 is a modern state-of-the-art hostel. It is a very spacious hostel and has many blocks in it. Apart from LBS Hall of Residence, there are several other hostels on the campus of IIT Kharagpur.

Almost 99 percent of CSE graduates were placed at IIT-B in previous batches. IIT-B had the highest placement salary package of any IIT at INR 22.7 LPA (domestic). Therefore, from a placement perspective, the student prefers IIT Bombay over IIT Kharagpur.

For admission to MBA at VGSOM (IIT Kharagpur), candidates need to qualify CAT followed by WAT and personal interview round. The minimum CAT percentile required is 90 for general category students. For NC-OBC and SC/ ST/ PwD the minimum CAT percentile required is 80 and 75 respectively.

To be eligible for admission to MBA at VGSOM, candidates must have the following:

• A bachelor’s degree of minimum 4-year duration in Engineering, Technology, Pharmacy, Medicine, or similar streams
• OR a master’s degree in Science/ Economics/ Commerce (with Mathematics or Statistics at Bachelor’s level) with 60% aggregate (or CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale) for General and NC-OBC candidates and 55% aggregate (or CGPA of 6.0 on a 10-point scale) for SC/ST and PwD category candidates.
• Candidates appearing for the final year of the bachelor’s degree/ equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply

Selection of candidates for admission to MBA at VGSoM, IIT Kharagpur is a two-step process. The applicants are shortlisted based on eligibility criteria and called for an online Personal Interview (PI). Final admission to MBA is offered on the basis of a cumulative score of the Application Rating (AR), performance score in CAT, and the candidate’s performance in the online PI round. The cut off rank in Round 6 for BTech (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering is 3294 which is very close to this range. This was for general category under All India quota. Unless the candidate belongs to some other category or domicile, one can not afford to score less than this. With this rank, there is a probability of getting admission however since, the cut offs keep changing from round to round, better ranks definitely increases your chances of getting admission in IIT Kharagpur.

IIT Kharagpur JAM cutoff 2026 was declared for round 3 for admission to the Integrated MSc courses.  The cutoff was released in the form of ranks for various All India categories.

If you get a good score in the JEE Main, you would then have to pass the exam of JEE Advanced for admission into IIT Kharagpur. It is through the JoSAA counseling process that admission is granted based on the rank obtained in the JEE Advanced. For MBA or M.Tech or any other postgraduate degrees, you would have to qualify for tests like GATE or CAT.

For Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur admissions, candidates need to clear the entrance exams and should also fulfill the other eligibility criteria.
