It is to be noted here that the JEE Mains marks vs percentile vs rank is just to calculate the probable rank/percentile in the exam. The percentile and ranks in JEE mains vary every year based on various factors like the number of candidates, marks of the toppers, difficulty level across the sessions, and several other factors.

National Testing Agency (NTA) releases the JEE Main result as percentile scores. The JEE Main percentile scores are not the actual marks but the normalised marks of candidates. Normalisation removes any possible parity in the difficulty level of the JEE Mains question paper as the exam is held in several shifts and days. NTA has clearly explained the normalisation process for calculating the JEE Main percentile score. The raw marks obtained in JEE Main by any candidate are converted to a percentile score for preparing the result. The actual percentile and rank are mentioned in the JEE Main result.

Q:   What is CRL in JEE Main Cutoff?
A:
CRL stands for the Common Rank List. NTA releases the cutoff in several categories one of which is CRL. Basically, CRL means unreserved category. Candidates belonging to unreserved category need to have JEE Main cutoff equal to or more than the CRL cutoff. The other categories for which cutoff is released are Gen-EWS, Open-PwD, OBC-NCL, SC and ST.
Q:   How much is 120 marks in JEE Mains percentile?
A:

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will declare the JEE Mains result 2026 in the form of percentile scores. Candidates can check here the previous year JEE Main marks vs percentile data to understand how much is 120 marks in JEE Main percentile.

As per the last year JEE Main marks vs percentile analysis, 120 marks would be around 95 to 97 percentile. However, the exact JEE Main 2025 percentile marks 120 would vary depending upon the highest number scored by the candidate in a particula shift and the total number candidates appeared in that particular shift.

Q:   What is the cutoff for BTech at NIT Andhra Pradesh for OBC category?
A:

NIT Andhra Pradesh BTech admission is based on candidates' performance in the JEE Main entrance exam, followed by the JoSAA counselling process. The Round 1 of JEE Main cutoff 2025 has been released for different categories of students belonging to the AI and HS quotas. For students belonging to the OBC category, the JEE Main closing ranks ranged between 5741 and 14452. For branch-wise Round 1 cutoff details, check out the table below:

What is NTA Score in JEE Mains?

NTA score in JEE Mains is the aggregate percentile score of all three subjects. Candidates having query what is NTA score are informed that NTA score is same as aggregate percentile score.

Percentile scores are scores based on the relative performance of all those who appear for the examination. The marks obtained are transformed into a scale ranging from 100 to 0 for each session of examinees. The Percentile Score indicates the percentage of candidates that have scored EQUAL TO OR BELOW (same or lower raw scores) that particular Percentile in that examination. Therefore, the topper (highest score) of each session will get the same Percentile of 100, which is desirable. The marks obtained in between the highest and lowest scores are also converted to appropriate Percentiles.

Why is JEE Main Result Announced in Percentile?

The JEE Main exam is conducted in two sessions in January and April over many days with 2 shifts each day. There's a possibility that the question paper for a particular day can be more difficult or easier than any other day. To overcome this possible parity in difficulty level, normalisation is done. The normalised marks are not the actual marks obtained by the candidate, but a comparative score obtained using a specially developed formula by NTA. The range of JEE Mains marks vs percentile is given below based on the previous years' trends and the normalisation formula used by NTA. The article below will provide important details to candidates about JEE Main marks vs percentile.

Also Read:

 JEE Main Normalisation Formula

After compiling the raw marks, the NTA applies the normalisation formula to get the percentile scores of a candidate for each subject – Maths, Physics, and Chemistry as well as the total. The highest score of each session will get the same percentile of 100, which is ideal. The percentile score has been used to prepare the JEE Main merit list. The percentile scores will be calculated up to 7 decimal places to avoid ties among candidates with the same scores.

The JEE Main percentile score obtained by a candidate is determined only after applying normalisation to the marks obtained by a candidate. JEE Main Percentile scores indicate the percentage of candidates who have scored equal to or below that particular percentile in the examination. A percentile score is measured on a scale of 100 to 0 for each session of examinees. The formula to calculate JEE Mains marks vs percentile is

JEE-Main-2021-Marks-vs-percentile

JEE Main Normalisation Process: Tie Breaker Guidelines

NTA resolves tie among students having same total percentile score in the following order

  1. NTA score in Mathematics
  2. NTA score in Physics
  3. NTA score in Chemistry
  4. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the test
  5. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Mathematics in the test
  6. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics in the test
  7. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Chemistry in the test
  8. If there is a tie even after this, candidates will be assigned the same rank.

The JEE Main result is released separately for each session. The best scores of the two sessions are considered for candidates who appeared in both sessions. The merit list is prepared on the final scores and ranks are announced based on the same.

JEE Mains 2025 Cutoff

NTA releases the JEE Main cutoff, which is the minimum percentile needed to be eligible for the JEE Advanced exam. The JEE Main cutoff percentile is released category-wise with the result of JEE Main final result. Check the JEE Main 2025 cutoff for JEE Advanced eligibility below.
