Q:   How much percentage is required for admission to IIT Kharagpur?

A: 

The minimum percentage required for admission to IIT Kharagpur is different for different courses. However, IIT Kharagpur admission is completely entrance-based. Students are selected based on various national-level entrance exams like JEE Main, JEE Advanced, GATE, etc. The below table mentions the minimum percentage required by the students in the last qualifying degree to be eligible for some of the popular IIT KGP courses:

Q:   Can I get direct admission to IIT Kharagpur?

A: 

No, IIT Kharagpur does not offer direct admission to the students. Admission to all the courses is either entrance-based or is subject to rigorous selection rounds inclusive of Personal Interviews conducted by the institute. The institute accepts JEE Advanced scores for admission to BTech. Candidates are required to qualify JEE Main exam prior to appearing for JEE Advanced. Apart from its flagship program, IIT Kharagpur offers BSc/BS, Integrated MTech, Integrated MSc, LLM, MBA, E-MBA, along with PhD programmes to the students and admission to all courses is based on scores obtained in the entrance examinations such as GATE, IIT JAM and CAT exams, among others.

Q:   Can I get admission at IIT Kharagpur without JEE?

A: 

The answer is no. It is possible to get admission in any IIT with JEE Main score provided a student also qualifies the JEE Advanced exam. As per the official details of IIT Kharagpur admission, admission to IIT KGP fBTech programme is subject to a valid score in JEE Main and JEE Advanced followed by JoSAA Counselling. Additionally, students must have also completed their Class 12 with 75% aggregate (for the General category).

However, there are other courses offered at IIT Kharagpur which does not require a student to have a score in JEE Advanced, such as LLM, PhD and MBA. If the dream is just to study at IIT Kharagpur, students can also opt for other courses basis their current eligibility and course requirements.

Yes, you can join IIT Kharagpur after completing your 12th grade. To be eligible for B.Tech, B.A, or B.Arch admissions at IIT Kharagpur, students must have passed Class 12th from a recognised board with a minimum of 75% marks in the Science stream. The admission process involves shortlisting based on national-level entrance exams like JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Q:   What is IIT Kharagpur BTech fees?

A: 

IIT Kharagpur BTech fees is between INR 8 Lacs and INR 10 lakh. However, this fee is been sourced from unofficial sources. Hence, is indicative. For the exact fee, students can reach out to the admission office. Other than this, students are required to pay the JEE Main application fee which is INR 625 (for boys) and INR 325 (for girls). Q:   What if I can't get into IIT Kharagpur for BTech?

A: 

Not getting into IIT Kharagpur or any other top IIT should not be considered an end to a student’s career. While IIT Kharagpur average package is INR 18.75 LPA for its 2023 placements batch, can IIT Kharagpur guarantee the same for each and every student of the batch? The answer is no. What truly matters is a student’s dream to pursue a career in Engineering and as long as they are ready to work on their learning and are focused towards achieving their goal, they must not feel defeated in case of not getting into IIT Kharagpur.

Q:   Can I get admission to IIT Kharagpur for BTech in Mechanical Engineering if my rank is under 5000?

A: 

The cut off rank in Round 6 for BTech (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering is 3294 which is very close to this range. This was for general category under All India quota. Unless the candidate belongs to some other category or domicile, one can not afford to score less than this. With this rank, there is a probability of getting admission however since, the cut offs keep changing from round to round, better ranks definitely increases your chances of getting admission in IIT Kharagpur.

Q:   Which is better for a BTech in Electrical Engineering, IIT Kharagpur or IIT Bombay?

Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and IIT Bombay are one of the best colleges in India that provides BTech along with various other programmes to students. They both are among the top-ranked Indian colleges. IIT Bombay is ranked three by NIRF 2023 for Engineering and IIT Kharagpur is ranked fifth by NIRF 2024 for Engineering. A: 

The application process for a few popular courses is completely online. Candidates seeking admission must apply via the following websites:

A: 

BTech aspirants must fill out the application form for JEE Main through the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) i.e., (nta.ac.in). Followed by JEE Main, students are required to register for JEE Advanced. For this, candidates have to first login with their JEE Main 2025 application number and password. Next candidates have to fill in the registration form, upload scanned certificates, and pay the application fee. After the application process is over; students have to go through various selection rounds for final admission. The institute considers the merit of the candidates for MBA, LLM and PhD admission. For BTech, MSc, BSc and M.Tech courses, JEE Advanced, IIT JAM and GATE scores are considered for the selection of candidates. Q:   Who is eligible for the Merit-Cum-Means (MCM) scholarship at IIT Kharagpur?

A: 

Students who are enrolled in B.Tech, Dual Degree, B.Arch, Integrated M.Sc., and BS courses, but not SC/ST students who are taking state scholarships, are eligible for the MCM scholarship. Both merit and economic need are considered in the selection to ensure deserving candidates are sponsored. For fresh entrants, a minimum of 60% marks in the qualifying examination is required, and for renewal, a minimum GPA of 7.00 is required. In addition, the students must not be subject to any disciplinary action to be eligible for the scholarship.

Q:   What benefits does the IIT Kharagpur MCM scholarship provide?

A: 

IIT Kharagpur MCM scholarship gives full exemption from the tuition fee to students, alleviating the economic burden to a certain extent. Nevertheless, other compulsory institute charges have to be paid by students according to rules. The award is given for one complete year of study (12 months) and will be renewed based on the student having a minimum GPA of 7.00. Disciplinary actions or any sort of academic misbehavior can cause the scholarship to be revoked.

Q:   Can a student receive more than one scholarship at IIT Kharagpur?

IIT Kharagpur students are not allowed to receive more than a single scholarship at a time. If a student is eligible for another scholarship offered by any internal or external organization, he has to opt for one of the two. They have to file a written notice of their decision with the Dean of Undergraduate Studies. It helps in making equitable distribution of scholarships among merit-worthy candidates and preventing duplication.

Most beautiful campus and lavish greenery.
Placements: 75% of students are placed in my department. The highest package is 2.1 crores, and the lowest is 10 LPA. The top recruiting companies for my course are Amazon, Google, BlackRock, Microsoft, and some other top companies in all fields. Jobs in the core are also very high nearly most students get internships from my course and top companies like Amazon, Google, Texas, and Nvidia.
Infrastructure: IIT Kharagpur is very beautiful, and Wi-Fi or internet facility is available 24/7 in almost all places on the campus. There is a vast library. I don’t like the food very much here, but the canteen, medical facilities, and hostel rooms are good. There are many grounds on the campus, and there are three big stadiums.
Faculty: Teachers are highly qualified. Everyone has a Ph.D. and they have a very high level of knowledge. They are very friendly. This course is curriculum-relevant. The pass percentage depends on the professor. The semester exams are based on what the professor teaches in classes. If we attend classes regularly and manage our time, the semester exams are okay you can easily pass.
Other: There are also many clubs that we can participate in based on our interests.

It is the best college for the food engineering course.
Placements: IIT Kharagpur's Agricultural and Food Engineering department has a 68% placement rate. The highest package is 34 LPA, the median package is 13.7 LPA, the average package is 15.7 LPA, and the lowest package is 7.5 LPA for the 2023-24 batch. Companies like ITC, HQL, and PNG visit the college for placements. Roles ranging from technical positions to those in the agricultural supply chain are offered to students.
Infrastructure: The campus infrastructure with respect to classrooms and labs is top-notch. Hostels and mess food depend on the hall we get allotted. Many halls serve good food with rare exceptions and in girls halls, it is very good. Many halls have enough amenities to indulge themselves and just relax like table tennis, badminton, football, cricket, etc.
Faculty: Faculty members are mostly good with rare exceptions. The course curriculum is very intense as we progress through our degree. Exams are also demanding and require significant time and effort. I believe students by the beginning of their 2nd year in college should decide the career path that they would like to pursue and work accordingly. For that, they will get all the help they want inside the campus from friends, faculty members, and seniors.

Absolutely amazing institute in India.
Placements: Placements are pretty decent as almost 65% of students get placed each season despite market recessions. The average salary ranges between 18 and 20 LPA. A similar placement percentage is observed in my branch and the top recruiting job roles include software developer, data analyst, consultant, and product manager.
Infrastructure: Facilities and infrastructure are well-suited to the needs, especially the Wi-Fi, classrooms, labs, and library. The quality of the mess and hostel rooms depends on the hall allotted, but they are manageable. The medical facilities are good, with a hospital on campus. Many amazing facilities are available here.
Faculty: The exam occurs in two phases. The first is the mid-semester exam, which covers 30% of the syllabus, and the second is the end-semester exam, which covers about 70% of the syllabus. Faculty members here are very helpful and excellent, with more than 15 years of experience.

IIT Kharagpur is a nice college.
Placements: Placements at IIT Kharagpur have been excellent. A lot of companies visit campus every year. Our campus has a very high placement ratio. Companies hire across various domains from software to finance to business to core engineering. Roles offered are SDE, data analyst, and consultant. Our college has an excellent record for internships as well. A lot of companies come to hire interns for roles like data analyst, associate consultant, PM intern, SDE, etc.
Infrastructure: Our college has good infrastructure for my course. It has labs with all the required equipment. Classrooms infrastructure is also very good. We have both blackboards and projects in our classrooms. Classrooms are spacious. The hostel infrastructure is quite good. There are a lot of hostels and rooms vary from single sharing to triple sharing. I am president of Nehru Hall which has both single and triple sharing rooms. Single-sharing rooms at Nehru are just fabulous, like simply the best. Mess food quality depends on the contractor. It is generally nice.
Faculty: Teachers are highly qualified. Everyone is PhD holder. All of them have years of experience of teaching the course. So, teachers are highly knowledgeable and most of them are very helpful. The course curriculum is very relevant. It has even been updated for the 2024 batch as well to include AI and ML in the coursework as an important skill. Overall, the course curriculum is very relevant. Semester exams are designed by the professors. Exams are difficult depending on the subjects as well as teachers.
Other: I chose IIT Kharagpur primarily because of its great reputation and excellent academics. It is such an old university and has a huge alumni network. Multiple fests happen in my college like Springs and the cultural fest like Kshitij, the tech fest like Shaurya, the sports fest, and various other departmental fests. IIT KGP is blessed with a strong hall culture. The general championship is a way where every student can contribute in their ways to make their hall win and also gain new experiences alongside. Apart from this, a lot of things keep happening the whole day.

Faculty: Faculty members are highly qualified, knowledgeable, and approachable. The course curriculum is research-oriented and prepares students for the industry with hands-on projects. Exams are challenging but fair, encouraging in-depth understanding. The pass percentage is 95%.

Placements: Very high percent of students get placed in this course is 88%. The highest package and the lowest package of my course is between 12 Lacs to 4 the year. Top companies are also recruiting my course students. Percent of students internship in big companies like Zebronics and Wipro.
Infrastructure: The facilities and infrastructure available in my department was very super. Wi-Fi, classrooms, and library everything is available. The quality and facility in hostel was very good. Food made in college was not tasty. Medical and sports is available in the college.
Faculty: The teachers are very qualified and knowledgeable. They have good teaching qualities. This course is curriculum relevant, but students are not industry-ready. The semester exam in my college was very difficult. The pass percentage in the exam is 40% in all subjects.
Other: There is no way to improve in this course. Events and campus crowd was so good. Scholarship is available in my college.
