Q:   Is there negative marking in JEE Main?
A:

Yes, JEE Main exam has negative marking provision. As per the current exam pattern of JEE Main, 4 marks is awarded for every correct answer, while 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer.

Q:   What is the exam pattern of JEE Mains?
A:

JEE Main 2026 exam pattern will be released soon by the NTA. As per the previous year exam pattern, the JEE Main Paper 1 (BE/B.Tech) exam will consist of 75 questions, 25 each from Physics Chemistry and Mathematics. Out of 25 questions, 20 will be MCQs and 5 will be NAV. Students need to answer all 75 questions. JEE Main paper 2A for B.Arch consists of 77 questions of which 25 are from Mathematics, 50 from General Aptitude and 2 from Drawing. In Paper 2B for BPlan total questions are 100 of which 25 are from Mathematics, 50 from General Aptitude and 25 from Planning.

The question paper will have no internal choices within questions and total duration of exam is 3 hours. 

Q:   Is there any change in marking scheme and total number of questions in JEE Main 2026?
A:

The exam pattern of JEE Main 2026 has not been announced yet. As per the current exam pattern, the Paper 1 exam has 75 questions, 25 each from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. In Paper 2A and 2B, the total number of questions are 77 and 100, respectively. The total marks of JEE Main Paper 1 is 300, for Paper 2A and 2B its 400.

No, NTA has not announced any change in JEE Main 2026 exam pattern. However, NTA made changes in JEE Main exam pattern in 2025. As per the current JEE exam pattern, the total number of questions in JEE Main Paper 1 (BE/BTech) are 75, 25 each from Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Also, there are no optional question in section B in any subject. Students will need to answer all 5 questions in section B from all three subjects. The marking scheme and total marks remain the same.

A:

JEE Main numerical value questions have the following marking scheme

  • Correct Answer: +4 Marks
  • Incorrect Answer: -1 Marks
