IIT Kharagpur's Vinod Gupta School of Management offers a two-year MBA degree in seven specializations and one micro specialisation. The Vinod Gupta School of Management's (VGSOM) flagship MBA curriculum is a residential programme for recent engineering graduates and those who have earned master's degrees in Science, the field of economics or commerce. The MBA programme has developed into one of the best in the nation, fusing the IITs' strengths in technical education with contemporary management philosophy. A thoughtful combination of lectures, case studies, group projects, and workshops are used as teaching methods. Additionally, the course includes a two-month summer internship in the field, which exposes students to real-world management challenges.

IIT Kharagpur offers a four-year BSc course along with a five-year Integrated MSc course across six specialisations each. Those willing to pursue a postgraduate integrated course can take admission in BSc-MSc Integrated, criteria and admission process of which is same as that of BSc. Admission to both these programmes is based on JEE Main and JEE Advanced scores followed by JoSAA counselling. IIT Kharagpur offers BTech programme across 15 specialisations which include, CSE, Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, among others. While all BTech branches are popular at IIT KGP, CSE has the most competitive cutoff as per the IIT Kharagpur cutoff.

Hostels at IIT Kharagpur are furnished with beds, tables, chairs, high-speed LAN ports, fans, lights and adequate electricity ports. The quantity of the aforementioned things may vary depending upon the occupancy of the room whether it’s single room, double sharing or triple occupancy sharing.

Also, some halls (hostel is referred to as hall of residence at IIT Kharagpur and hostellers as boarders) have washing machine facilities and some don’t. Laundry service is available at a reasonable price.

Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Hall of Residence is the largest hostel in terms of area and facilities. Lal Bahadur Shastri Hall of Residence construction completed in 2010 is a modern state-of-the-art hostel. It is a very spacious hostel and has many blocks in it. Apart from LBS Hall of Residence, there are several other hostels on the campus of IIT Kharagpur.

IIT Kharagpur is one of the oldest and reputed institution in the country known for its Engineering education. However, the brand name is also a key factor for candidates while choosing it to pursue higher education in the field of Management, i.e., MBA. To support its reputation, ranking received by VGSOM (B-School of IIT Kharagpur) for MBA over the past three years by NIRF is as follows:

As per the report, the highest package offered was INR 37.63 LPA. The average and median package received during IIT Kharagpur MBA placement 2025 was INR 22.75 LPA and INR 22.15 LPA, respectively. 

Both IIT Kharagpur and IIT Bombay are among the top institutes to pursue a B.Tech. In computer Science and engineering. Here is a small comparison: 1. Raking: The IIT Bombay has been ranked 3rd by NIRF, whereas the IIT Kharagpur has been ranked 5th in the 2022 rankings. 2. Fees: The course fee is similar at both institutions, at around Rs. 8 Lacs. 3. Infrastructure: Both colleges have decent infrastructure. The campus at IIT Bombay is better and more student-friendly than IIT Kharagpur. 4. Popularity: The CSE branch of IIT B is more popular than IIT K. It is evident in the cut-off ranks of JEE Advanced. The cutoff for IIT B was 63, which was higher than the closing rank of 283 for IIT K. 5. Placement: The placement rate at IIT-B is better than that at IIT-K. Almost 99 percent of CSE graduates were placed at IIT-B in previous batches. IIT-B had the highest placement salary package of any IIT at INR 22.7 LPA (domestic). Therefore, from a placement perspective, the student prefers IIT Bombay over IIT Kharagpur.

The institute has not released any BArch specific placements data. However, as per the data collated from various sources on the internet, the median package (which at times is considered close to the average salary package) for BArch students at this college is approximately INR 12.62 LPA. This data is for the year 2022.

To get a seat at IIT Kharagpur for the MSc course and its various branches, students have to first attempt the IIT JAM entrance examination, followed by its counselling process to be considered eligible for admission. 

The cutoff gets released for various All India categories in the form of ranks. The IIT Kharagpur cutoff 2026 has been released for round 1 for admission to the MSc course. Different categories have different cutoffs.

For eg, among the General AI category, the round 1 admission was capped at a rank of 605. On the other hand, for the OBC AI category, admission in the same round was capped with a rank of 1091.

The cut off rank in Round 6 for BTech (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering is 3294 which is very close to this range. This was for general category under All India quota. Unless the candidate belongs to some other category or domicile, one can not afford to score less than this. With this rank, there is a probability of getting admission however since, the cut offs keep changing from round to round, better ranks definitely increases your chances of getting admission in IIT Kharagpur.

IIT JAM 2026 cutoff for IIT Kharagpur will released after each round of counselling process. Last year, IIT Kharagpur offered admission to Joint M.Sc PhD courses to JAM rank between 11 to 6700. GEN category students had to obtained JAM rank between 11 to 528 for admission.

Yes, IIT Kharagpur does accept GATE scores for admission to its M.Tech programme. Applicants must have a valid GATE score relevant to the discipline of their qualifying degree. In cases where there is no specific GATE paper available for a particular discipline, XE/XL/XH papers of the GATE examination can be considered. GATE is the accepted entrance exam for admission to IIT Kharagpur's M.Tech programme.
