Calculation of Tuition Fees in Spanish Universities

In Spain, Pay-per Credit system works for higher university education tuition fees. According to this format, it is on the basis of the number of credits each year that the tuition fee has to be paid by the students. Generally, the total number of ECTS credits per academic year is 60.

In case you withdraw from an enrolled course and wish to enrol again for the second or a third time, you will have to deposit a higher tuition fee. Overseas students pursuing an undergraduate course in Spanish universities may have to pay €6,000 - €8,000 every year according to pay-per-credit norms. For the bachelor’s degree, for international students, the average price per credit may rise up to €100+. Also, retake penalties apply to failed, rather than withdrawn, courses.

Q&A Icon
Commonly asked questions
Q:   How much should I expect to spend while living in Spain as an international student?
A:

As an international student in 2026, you should expect to spend between €800 and EUR €1,200 per month to live in Spain. Your exact budget will heavily depend on your choice of city, with major hubs like Madrid and Barcelona costing much more than the student-centric cities like Valencia or Seville

Q:   Can I study in Spain if I don't have good academic grades?
A:

Yes, you can absolutely study in Spain even if you do not have top academic grades. Spanish universities and visa officials place higher priority on your language proficiency, financial security, and standard entry exams rather than a perfect GPA

Q:   How much tuition fees am I supposed to pay as an international student in Spain?
A:

At a public university in Spain, non-EU international students can expect to pay between €1,000 and €4,500 per year for most programs, while private universities and elite business schools charge anywhere from €5,000 to over €33,000 annually.

Q:   Can I study in a private Spanish institution if I'm tight on budget?
A:

Yes, you can study at a private Spanish institution on a tight budget, but it requires a very specific approach. While elite business schools are out of reach, many smaller, specialised private institutes offer competitive pricing, flexible payment plans, and fast-track diplomas that cost less than high-end public universities.

The other way round is going for the scholarships in Spain - which, in case they are fully-funded, then most of your expenses will get covered by them.
