IELTS 2023 Exam Date: Computer-Delivered IELTS Exam Dates (Academic)

The IELTS on Computer is available on most days of the month. Due to the high volume of IELTS registrations, most IELTS test centres offer multiple slots in a day for the candidate to choose from depending on his/her convenience. Most centres would have IELTS exams happening on all or either of the following slot schedules:

• Slot 1: 09:00 am to 12:00 am
• Slot 2: 01:00 pm to 04:00 pm
• Slot 3: 05:00 pm to 08:00 pm

The IELTS Academic Paper-delivered test is available up to 4 times a month making a total of 48 fixed test dates in one calendar year. The IELTS paper-delivered test is scheduled on Thursdays and Saturdays.

What is the IELTS Cancellation Fee?

Candidates suffering from exceptional circumstances such as serious medical conditions/ bereavement or military service are required to approach the IELTS test centre before the test and up to five calendar days after the IELTS test date if they did not attend the test to be eligible for transfer. Please note that they are required to provide proof of their circumstance and their test centre will assess their case before a decision is made. The final decision will rest with the IELTS test centre.

• If you cancel your IELTS application more than five weeks before the test date, you will receive a refund minus a 25% administrative fee.
• If you cancel the IELTS exam less than five weeks ahead of the test date, you will receive no refund.
• In case you fail to appear for the test, then also you will not receive any refund. This is also considered a cancellation.

Candidates can also request for transferring an IELTS test date to another date at least five weeks prior to the original test date. The allocation of the next test date will be at the sole discretion of the centre and subject to availability. Candidates should note that transfer of IELTS test dates would come with an additional charge of INR 3,150.  

Cancellations from the end of the test centre due to situations outside the control of the test centre may lead to cancellations. The test centre will provide you with as much notice as possible and give you the choice of either a full fund or, a transfer to a future IELTS test date convenient to you at no extra cost.

What is IELTS Reschedule Fee?

If you want to change your test date, then you can request a test day transfer at least five weeks before your already booked test date after deducting your cancellation/postponement fee. Also, make sure the new test date must be within three months of the original test date. Candidates need to pay an administrative charge of INR 3,300 inclusive of all taxes for the transfer of the test date.

What is IELTS Revaluation Fee?

IELTS test takers who are not satisfied with their IELTS results can apply for an IELTS exam revaluation. Referred to as 'Enquiries on Results (EOR) - which means having your IELTS test re-marked. The IELTS Revaluation Fee is INR 12,200 (inclusive of all taxes). Note, candidates would be entitled to receive a full refund if their IELTS score is changed to a higher band score.

How to apply for IELTS Exam Revaluation?

1. Candidates would be required to submit their EOR application online by visiting their candidate login section. No physical (offline) applications for EOR would be accepted
2. Test takers are required to raise this request within six weeks of their test date
3. Candidates can choose to have one or more parts of their test re-marked. The fee is the same regardless
4. The head office will notify your re-mark result within 21 days of the receipt of the complete exam material and documents

There are two types of IELTS English language tests for candidates to choose from serving different purposes. The IELTS Academic exam is for candidates who are looking to pursue higher education abroad and forms an integral part of the admission process. The IELTS scores are also recognised by visa-issuing authorities as part of the student visa process. Candidates who are looking for jobs or looking to migrate to English-speaking countries abroad are required to opt for the IELTS General Training exam. Candidates confused about which exam to appear for are required to check the eligibility requirements and go ahead with booking the right test.

The IELTS exam is available in two formats: IELTS Academic for candidates who are looking to study abroad in an English-speaking country and IELTS General for candidates who are looking to travel to English-speaking countries for immigration purposes. IDP IELTS – the conducting body of the IELTS exam offers the IELTS in two formats: IELTS on computer and IELTS on Paper. Candidates opting for the ‘IELTS on computer’ will be required to use a computer to appear for the Reading, Listening and Writing sections of the IELTS exam. The face-to-face IELTS Speaking section would be required to be completed on the same day either just before or after the Reading, Listening and Writing tests. The computer-delivered IELTS test is available up to 3 times a day on all 7 days a week. 

Candidates opting for the ‘IELTS on paper’ will be required to complete the Reading, Listening and Writing sections of the IELTS on paper in one seating with no breaks. The face-to-face speaking test would have to be completed with an IELTS examiner one week before or after your IELTS on paper test date. One of the major differences between the two formats of the exam is the announcement of IELTS results. While the IELTS results for the computer-delivered test are made available in 3-5 working days. Candidates opting for the IELTS paper-delivered test would be required to wait for 13 calendar days for their IELTS results.

Candidates who are looking to book their required test centre and IELTS Dates are required to follow the IELTS registration steps mentioned below:

• Visit the official IDP IELTS website and Register for the exam
• Click on ‘Find IELTS Test Date’ and enter the month city and module of choice
• You will be then redirected to the IELTS Application: Check Test Availability page
• Candidates are required to select the desired IELTS date and click ‘Apply’
• Candidates would be then required to pay the IELTS exam fee of INR 16,250
• Candidates would receive an acknowledgement slip of their booking along with details of the IELTS exam.

IELTS Test Centres

The IELTS test centers function on a first-come-first-serve basis, so it is important to book your dates as soon as possible. During the high season, tests can fill up one month in advance. So registering for the IDP IELTS date early is a very important task. Currently, IDP Education is the sole conducting body of the IELTS exam across India and has a presence across all major cities in India. The predefined IELTS exam fee is INR 16,250. To appear for the IELTS exam or to book the test centre, you must talk to the organization authorized to get the exam conducted. You may choose the organization considering the location that better suits your requirements.

How to Apply for IELTS Special Requirements

Candidates with medical conditions or specific learning, hearing and visual difficulties can request for special arrangements to be made by the IELTS test centre. Candidates are required to write to the IELTS test centre with the special request they would require at their designated test centre at least six weeks prior to their test date. Special arrangements available at IELTS test centres include:

• Extra time for medical conditions or infant feeding
• Braille papers
• Special Listening CD with necessary stops and pauses
• Lip-reading version of the Listening test
• Enlarged print or Speaking task cards in Braille

Candidates should note that while British Council was one of the major institutions that used to conduct the IELTS tests across India. However, from  August 2021, IELTS Tests in India are being solely administered by IDP IELTS India after it acquired 100% stakes from the British Council.
