Fashion Design Admission Process 2025 

Admission to Fashion Design courses can be secured either based on merit or based on an entrance exam. Candidates can refer to the step-wise procedure to be followed to secure admission to the Fashion Design course through various entrance exams:

Step 1: ELIGIBILITY CRITERION

At first, the candidates must check the eligibility criteria of the college or course they are looking for.

Step 2: APPLICATION FORM

Then, they should register on the official site of that college/exam, fill out the application form, upload documents, and pay the application fee to complete the application submission procedure.

Step 3: ENTRANCE EXAMS

Candidates who opted for an entrance exam or a course that requires a specific entrance exam score must prepare for the exam and appear for the exam at the allotted time and center.

Step 4: AWAIT RESULTS

Now, the candidates must wait for the results. Once the result is out, they must check their rank or score and determine which college they qualify for.

Q:   What is the process to appear for NIFT entrance exam?
A:
The NIFT entrance exam are held in the second week of February every year. The forms are out by the month of November and the last date is usually in the month of January. The exam consist of two levels. The first level consist of CAT (Creative Ability Test) and GAT (General Ability Test) which generally test your IQ and basic drawing skills. It is a written test. After clearing the first level, the second level is the Situation Test where one is given 14-15 materials and is asked to make a 3D model. Clearing all the two level one gets a rank with which he/she can sit for NIFT counselling and get through.
Q:   What is the pattern of UCEED entrance exam?
A:

The UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design) entrance exam pattern is as follows:

- Duration: The duration of the UCEED exam is typically 3 hours.

- Mode: The exam is conducted in online (computer-based) mode.

- Sections: The question paper is divided into three sections: Part A, Part B, and Part C.

- Type of Questions: 

  - Part A: Multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that assess candidates' analytical and logical reasoning abilities, visual perception, and observation skills.

  - Part B: Multiple-select questions that evaluate candidates' design aptitude, creativity, drawing, and visualization skills.

  - Part C: Questions that assess candidates' ability to communicate and express their thoughts and ideas through a written response.

- Total Marks: The UCEED exam is generally out of a total of 300 marks, with different weightage for each section.

- Marking Scheme: The marking scheme for the UCEED exam varies across sections. There may be negative marking for incorrect answers in Part A, while in Part B and Part C, marks are awarded for correct answers, and no negative marking is applicable.

Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) is an all India examination conducted by IIT Bombay on behalf of the MHRD, Govt of India.Objective of CEED is to assess the candidate’s aptitude for design, involving visual perception ability, drawing skills, logical reasoning, creativity and communication skills.CEED 2015 Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must either have completed or are expecting to complete any of the following by July 2015: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Architecture /Design /Interior Design or equivalent A Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT or equivalent) B.F.A. G.D. Q:   What is the frequency of the NID DAT exam?

The NID DAT entrance exam is conducted once every year.

The exam has two sub-exams - DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. Candidates are shortlisted for DAT Mains based on their scores in DAT Prelims.

The DAT Prelims exam is conducted around December/ January.  The DAT Prelims exam for the current session will be conducted around the 4th week of December 2024.

There are several Fashion Designing courses that you can pursue at master's level. If you have completed engineering or Design related courses you can pursue MDes or Master of Design. Engineers can also pursue MFTech course. MA Fashion Design and MSc Fashion Design are popular options among BA Fashion Design and BSc Fashion Design graduates.
