What is GMAT Superscore?

GMAC announced GMAT Superscore in June 2026, rolling out around August 2026. It automatically combines your highest Quant, Verbal, and Data Insights scores across all your valid GMAT Focus Edition attempts into one composite score — even if those scores came from different test days.

Quick facts:

• Free and automatic, no extra cost or application needed.
• Only counts GMAT Focus Edition attempts. Older 10th Edition, expired, or cancelled scores don't count.
• Appears as an extra data point on your official score report. It doesn't replace your individual attempt scores, still schools see both.
• If your best section scores all came from one sitting, you won't have a separate superscore. That sitting is already your best case.

GMAC's reasoning: one bad test day shouldn't define your whole application. Whether schools weight the superscore the same as a single sitting is still unclear. Individual programs may clarify this over the next admissions cycle.

GMAT Percentile and Scores: Section-wise

Twenty years back the average GMAT score for the top B-school was around 600. In the present time, however, the demand for the MBA course has increased dramatically. As a result, many more applicants are applying to these schools, which means, the average GMAT acceptance scores are increasing every year. It is important to note that the top colleges don’t take into consideration only the GMAT test scores, but also the overall favourable traits like diversity, unusual accomplishment or success, etc. These factors allow many students to gain acceptance with a lower GMAT score. If you have none of these types of traits, then you probably need to break 730 (that's the 99th percentile) to have a good chance at a B-school ranked in the top ten.

The average GMAT score for the top MBA programs at premier universities across the globe consistently falls in the 645-705 range. However, scoring a perfect 805 on GMAT is not difficult.

GMAT score validity is for five years from the date of testing. This rule is applicable to both GMAT 10th Edition and GMAT Focus Edition. Longer validity of GMAT scores gives applicants the flexibility to use GMAT scores when applying for admission abroad during these five years.

Consulting firms often require GMAT scores to offer full-time jobs to applicants. Thus, these scores can be used here as well for gaining some work experience, which is equally important for admissions for MBA, MiM or MS in Management abroad. 

Those who take the GMAT test multiple times, they will have different score reports. Each score will have its own independent five-year expiration date. No expired GMAT scores are accepted for admission abroad.

Once you finish your GMAT exam, your scores are not automatically sent to colleges. GMAC now gives students more control over which schools can see their scores and when they receive them. Here’s the complete process in a simple, student-friendly format: 

Step 1: Receive Your Official GMAT Score

After taking the GMAT, your official score report is usually available in your mba.com account within 3–5 business days. GMAC will also send you an email once the score is ready.

At this stage, colleges still cannot see your score unless you choose to send it.

Step 2: Decide Which Colleges Should Receive Your Scores

Once the official score is released, you can select the MBA colleges or business schools where you want your scores sent. GMAC allows students to:

• Send scores to up to five programs for free.

• Use this free option within 48 hours of the official score becoming available.

• Choose exactly which GMAT attempt they want to share.

This gives students time to review their performance before sharing scores with universities.

Step 3: Log in to mba.com and Send GMAT Scores

To report your GMAT scores applicants have to:

• Log on to their mba.com account and access the “View and Send Scores” section.

• This will take them to the GMAT score reporting portal.

• There, they will have to search for their target universities and/or MBA programs.

• Confirm and submit the score report request.

Step 4: Colleges Receive the Score Report

After submission, business schools generally receive the electronic score report within a few hours, often on the same day. The GMAT score report includes:

• Your GMAT Focus Edition score

• Section-wise performance

• Percentile details

• Test date information

Step 5: Send Additional Score Reports if Needed

The need for additional GMAT score reports may be required if:

• Applicants want to send scores to more than five colleges, or

• The 48-hour free window has passed, or

• If the scores are superscored by the university.

Applicants can still send scores later by purchasing Additional Score Reports (ASRs) through mba.com.

Timeline to Send GMAT Scores to Colleges

Here is a temporary timeline to send GMAT exam scores to B-schools or colleges abroad:

Before starting with GMAT exam preparation know how much is your target GMAT score should be. The GMAT scores will depend on applicant's preparation level, university of application and scores for scholarships as well. Based on the following points understand how make a target:

• Based on your shortlisted B-Schools check the previous year's cutoff and trends in admissions.
• Understand if there are any scholarships based on GMAT scores and then have a goal in mind. 
• Target GMAT total marks and then the percentile. This way you will keep up with your practice and aim.
• To bridge academic backlogs, gap years and low scores, you can target GMAT scores based on your academic profile.
• If you have career progression in mind and if GMAT scores matter there, consider having your aimed GMAT marks.

In case you cannot reach your goal, you can cancel your GMAT scores. But in future, if the GMAT scores you cancelled were adequate for admissions abroad, then you also have the option to reinstate and send them. 

On the examination day, after completing the GMAT exam, the screen will reflect the applicant's unofficial GMAT score. This score cannot be copied or noted anywhere.

With GMAT Focus in picture, a good GMAT score is 645 and above. The definition of a good GMAT score will vary person to person. These scores are a part of the admission application. B-Schools usually look for candidates who also have strong academics, relevant work experience (unless applying for MIM), participation in extracurricular activities, etc. Moreover, your application documents, such as your resume, SOP, LOR, admission essays, etc., also play a vital role in your admissions. Hence, you must aim for a comprehensive and holistic application to be accepted into top-ranking B-schools.
