Administered by the College Board, the SAT exam is conducted in India across all major cities and in all Indian states. At present, SAT exam centres in India 2023 include 99 institutions across 25+ cities where the SAT exam is conducted. Since the number of applicants is increasing every year, the SAT exam requires its aspirants to apply a month in advance to book SAT exam slots at their preferred exam centre. It is always recommended to apply on time to avoid losing seats at the preferred SAT exam centre near them. Usually, a limited set of seats are available at a given SAT exam centre during SAT registrations, hence it is advised to register well within time. Each SAT exam centre in India has a unique code, thus, those registering with the SAT centre code must double-check before choosing the SAT exam centre in India.
Latest Updates for SAT India Exam Centres 2023
Due to COVID-19, test centres are not operating at their full capacity. Candidates can register and book their exam slots for this academic year for taking the SAT and SAT Subject Tests. They can check the availability of the test centre near them during registration. If a test centre is not available near them, students can choose the option of 'let the College Board find a seat near me'. Test centres may close or reduce capacity on short notice including on test day. Please check your email and the test centre's website the night before your test date and plan your travel accordingly.
Test centres may close or reschedule for a future date at the last minute. In case this happens, students will be notified that they should not report to their test centre and they will receive a follow-up notification after the test day to confirm whether a future date is available or if they will receive a refund.

Considering the 2 hours and 14 minutes long duration of the test, it is advisable for Indian students to choose an SAT test centre in India that is nearest to their location. Also, you should try to reach the SAT test centre at least 30 minutes early so that you get enough time to check your seating as per your roll numbers since the exam centre gates would open by 7:45 a.m. and the SAT exam would begin between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.

Items Allowed in Indian SAT Exam Centres 2023
Only the following items are permitted at SAT exam centres:
- Admission Hall Ticket
- ID Poof with Photograph
- Stationery: No. 2 Pencil (Suggested Quantity: 2) and Erasers
- Calculator (approved by the authorities) or use a digital calculator on the device for testing on Bluebook which is embedded
- Auto-injectors: Epinephrine (such as EpiPens)
- Fully charged device on which SAT digital is to be attempted
- Charger for the device on which applicants would give their SAT exam
All these items need to be carried in a clear (see-through) bag. Applicants can also carry their watches which are without an audible alarm and are analogue or digital, along with this applicants can carry some snacks and water for the break at the SAT exam centre. Prohibited Items at 2023 SAT Indian Centres
The following items are prohibited at SAT exam centres in India:
- Mobile phones (but can be used to show the digital admission ticket, but after checking in, they will have to be stored away before going in for the exam).
- Smartwatches, fitness trackers, or any other type of wearable technology are prohibited.
- Personal computing devices can not be used as an actual or backup testing devices.
- Separate kinds of timers.
- Cameras or any photographic equipment are also not allowed at SAT exam centres.
- Highlighters or coloured pencils will not be allowed too.
- Books or references of any kind will not be allowed to be taken inside the testing area of SAT exam centre.
- Compasses, rulers, protractors, or cutting devices are prohibited inside an SAT exam centre as well.
- Earplugs are not allowed also.
- Unacceptable calculators that have computer-style (QWERTY) keyboards are prohibited at the

On the whole, there are certain rules and regulations which have to be followed by applicants sitting for SAT Digital exam and consequently, common rules apply to Indian SAT exam centres as well which must be adhered to.
SAT Test 2023 Centres FAQs
Q. How I will know whether my SAT test centre is open or closed?
A. College Board will email you if your test centre has been closed. You can also contact the test centre directly and know whether they are open or not. In case the SAT exam centre is closed, the applicant may have to alter his/her selected centre and choose another one. This option is open for a free switch before the applications for SAT exam are submitted. Once the SAT exam form is submitted, the exam centre change will require fee of USD 25 for a change.
Q. What happens if my test centre is closed and the test is cancelled by their end?
A. In case your test centre cancels the SAT exam, the submitted fee will be refunded. College Board will also arrange to reschedule the SAT exam at a later date either at that test centre or at any other test centre located nearby. Applicants can also check for another SAT date and centre for completing the registration. Since this is not the case usually, but in case a situation like this arises, students will not be at the losing end.
Q. What to do if I am not sure whether my SAT centre will be conducted or not?
A. Follow your regular routine and prepare according to the test date only. Check your email before two days of the test and also if possible contact your test centre and confirm whether the test is going to be conducted or not. In case of discrepancy, College Board would be informed beforehand and further details would be shared with the respective applicants. In case of SAT exam centre conducting or not conducting the exam, the applicant will be given prior info and the next best solution too.
Q. Are students allowed to take the SAT at any other test centre on the same day?
A. No, as the student has already registered for a particular test centre and there is no walk-in, so, you need to give SAT at your test centre only where you have booked the slot. Applicants must avoid such situations, they must check the address of their SAT exam centre and reach 30 mins prior to the exam commencement to avoid last minute confusions. In case the applicant reaches the incoorect SAT centre also, he/she should have enough time to reach the designated centre within the stipulated time.
Q. Where are SAT exams held in India?
A. SAT exams are held across various cities of India each year. Each city has a few designated SAT exam centres where the exam is held. In 2023, India has around 33 cities across which various SAT exam centres are distributed. Students registering for SAT exam can choose their SAT exam centre based on their location and reach. SAT exam centres are available in metros like - Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata and other cities like Pune, Hyderabad, Haryana, Indore, Ahmedabad, etc.
Q. Can I change my SAT exam centre at the last minute?
A. No, there is no provision of altering SAT exam centres at the last minute. Right after registering for the SAT exam, a window opens for a small time frame where students have the option of updating their SAT exam centres or even dates but at an additional cost. Thus, applicants cannot change the SAT exam centre right before the exam and should be careful while choosing the right exam centre so that they reach the centre within time from their home.
Q. What are the pointers to keep in mind while choosing SAT exam centre?
A. When choosing a SAT exam centre while registering, applicants should have the following pointers covered:
- The SAT exam centre must be 1 or 2 kms in distance.
- Exam centre must be within the same city and if possible in the same vicinity.
- Check beforehand how will you reach your SAT exam centre and in how much time plus which mode of transportation would suit you the best.
- Ensure that the exam centre you are choosing is conducting the exam and will not cancel at the last minute.
- Register early so that the seats don't run out at your preferred test centre.

Q. Can I reschedule SAT exam but for the same SAT centre?
A. Applicants can reschedule their SAT exam date but there is no guarantee of getting an option for the same SAT exam centre. In some cases an applicant may find a spot at the previously chosen SAT exam centre as before may be available and in some cases it may not be available. This is why it is advised that students must make up their minds before choosing an exam date or centre. However, in case of genuine reasons, the option for rescheduling and changing the exam date and centre respectively are also available.
Q. Are SAT centres available in remote areas of India?
A. Applicants will have to check the location they are in and the location where they want to sit for their SAT exam. In case they do not find SAT centre nearby, they can choose to appear for the exam at any other nearby SAT centre. It may not always be possible to find a SAT centre in the same location of residence of the applicant. Hence, its best to look for the next best option and prepare accordingly as to how to travel and how much buffer time you'd need to reach the centre and other miscellaneous factors before coming down to one solution
Q. What guidelines should be followed at SAT centres in India?
A. The students who would be appearing for the SAT exam at Indian SAT centres must ensure that they reach the exam centre 30 minutes before the exam starts. They must bring with themselves an official government ID card for identification purposes to enter the SAT centre. The applicants would be given breaks in between a section completion, they may or may not be allowed to leave the test centre. Applicants can carry with themselves their calculators and the device on which they'll be attempting the exam plus their water bottles too.
