The PTE Academic measures the English speaking, writing, reading and listening skills of the candidate in a single two-hour session. The PTE full form is the Pearson Test of English or PTE - Academic in short.

PTE exam

Q:   Is PTE easier than IELTS?

A:

Both the PTE Academic and IELTS have been designed to understand the English language proficiency of the candidate. They have been designed to test the writing, speaking reading, and listening skills of the test taker. Hence, both the tests are at par with each other and the candidate should opt for the one he is comfortable in. However, there are some points of differences that must be noted when making a decision, these are:

  1. The PTE exam (2 hours) is shorter than the IELTS exam (3 hours).
  2. All the segments (sections) of a PTE exam are tested within a day, in a single sitting. However, the different sections in an IELTS exam are assessed on different days.
  3. The IELTS exam tests speaking, listening, reading and writing proficiencies in the English language separately, which may not be appropriate for testing the real-life comprehension abilities of the test-taker. On the other side, the PTE exam tests all these skills simultaneously based on the belief that successful communication is developed by combining all these skills together.
  4. Your performance in a PTE exam is judged by AI, which leaves little to no room for human errors and any sort of bias. the scores awarded in this manner are mostly accurate. While, in an IELTS exam, a human examiner is present to test your overall English proficiency.
  5. Results can be expected within two days of taking the PTE exam, while the IELTS exam results are released later.

Q:   Who can take the PTE Academic exam?

A:

There are no specific eligibility criteria based on nationality,  background,  or education level. Anyone aiming to demonstrate their English proficiency for study abroad,  immigration,  or professional purposes can take the test. However,  individual universities or visa applications may have their own score requirements.

Q:   Why choose PTE Academic over other tests?

A:

Compared to IELTS and TOEFL,  PTE boasts several advantages:

  1. Faster results: Receive your scores within 2 business days,  ideal for tight deadlines.
  2. Flexible testing: Choose your preferred date and time almost year-round,  even at the last minute.
  3. AI-powered scoring: Eliminate human bias with computer-based evaluation for consistent results.
  4. Wider question variety: Encounter diverse question types,  testing your English skills in practical contexts.
  5. Interactive speaking & writing: Respond to real-time prompts,  simulating natural communication.

What is PTE Academic Exam?

Pearson PTE Exam 2024: Conducted by Pearson PLC Group, PTE Academic exam dates are available around the clock and can be booked until the last minute. Candidates can decide to take the PTE exam from a network of 62 Pearson PTE Test centres in India or opt to take the PTE exam from home by opting for the PTE at-home edition of the test - provided they have the necessary system requirements and are seated in a quiet and private space that is mandated for the test. Keeping student safety in mind, PTE test centres follow the highest safety standards with no more than 15 seats per test room.

The PTE exam pattern requires candidates to solve different types of question in the test, ranging from multiple choice questions to essay writing. Candidates looking to take the PTE exam are required to visit the official website and register for their PTE Exam on the my PTE portal. Candidates would be required to create a new account/log in to their existing account on the 'my pte' webpage and go ahead with PTE exam slot booking. On completion of registration, they would be required to pay a PTE Academic exam fee of INR 17,000. The Pearson PTE Academic exam is scored on a scale of 10 - 90 marks and PTE results are available to candidates on their 'my pte'  dashboard in just two working days of taking the test. The automated scoring system adopted by PTE requires zero human interference in the scoring process and leaves out any room for error. Candidates can send the digital copies of their PTE score cards available on their 'my pte' dashboard to as many universities and colleges as they want free of charge. The PTE scores are valid for two years from the date of the PTE exam.

The PTE Academic exam is a computer-based English language test accepted by educational institutions around the world to accept international students for admissions based on their English language skills. The full form of  PTE is the Pearson Test of English and PTE-Academic is the English test undertaken by students and aspirants who desire to go abroad to study or immigrate to a major English-speaking country. Candidates eligible to appear for the PTE exam are required to take the test to prove their English language competency.

Conducted by Pearson PLC Group, PTE Exams were not conducted temporarily during the widespread COVID-19 situation across countries. However, now with the COVID-19 cases on a decline, PTE test centres have re-opened with a safer space for candidates to appear for the PTE test. The PTE Academic exam fee has also been updated to 17,000 inclusive of taxes. In short, candidates would be required to pay INR 17,000 for booking their PTE test.

The PTE at Home (or PTE Academic Online) launched by Pearson PLC Group is identical to the PTE Academic test. However, the PTE at Home is held in the safety of the home of the candidate keeping student safety in mind. The conducting body also shortened the total duration of the Pearson PTE exam from three hours to two hours on November 16, 2021.

The PTE Syllabus of the two-hour-long computer-based test focuses on day-to-day English rather than the high-level English language and tests a student on his/her ability to effectively understand the language as spoken daily. The multi-level grading system of the PTE exam ensures a better understanding of the student’s proficiency in the English language.

There are many factors that distinguish PTE Academic exam from other English proficiency tests. The first and foremost distinguishing aspect of the same is the scoring pattern and the results. As the tests are completely computerised, the PTE results and scores are declared much quicker, typically in two business days. This makes it aptly suited for students who are in a bit of a rush. Candidates looking to appear for their PTE Academic Exam will learn about the most important topics related to the PTE Exam 2024.

Why take the PTE Exam?

PTE Academic is a computer-based English language test for non-native English speakers who wish to study abroad. It tests the Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking skills of the candidates. The test is designed in such a way that every question generally tests two skills together, like reading and speaking or listening and reading.

Q:   Which is better IELTS or PTE?

A:

Both IELTS and PTE are English proficiency tests required to study abroad in countries where the native language is English. However, the comparison between the two will depend entirely on the student’s preferences and purpose of taking the test. Below are a few points that can help you make clear choices.

  1. Acceptance: IELTS is more widely accepted worldwide while PTE is less acceptable. However, the latter is getting increasingly accepted by more and more institutions and organisations in the world owing to its faster processing time. Both the exams are accepted for Australian student visas and migration applications.

  2. Exam Pattern: Both the IELTS and PTE exams comprise the Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking sections. However, the duration and the sequence of assessing these 4 core English language skills differ in both exams.

The IELTS exam assesses Listening (30 minutes), Reading (60 minutes) and Writing (60 minutes) skills in a sequence while Speaking (10-14 minutes) is assessed face-to-face by a real examiner. This is done on a different date from the actual IELTS exam, maybe till a week later. You may expect to get your IELTS exam results after 1 or 2 weeks of taking the exam depending on the type of exam you opted for (on-paper or computer-based).

On the contrary, the sequence of assessment of these core skills in the PTE exam is Speaking and Writing (50 - 67 minutes), Reading (30 minutes) and Listening 30-45 minutes. The total duration of the exam is 2 hours and test takers can expect to see their results within 48 hours of taking the exam.

  1. Assessment: The Speaking section in the IELTS exam is assessed separately in real-time by the English experts in a face-to-face round which is often conducted a week after your IELTS exam date.

The Speaking section in the PTE exam is assessed along with the Writing section which is a more natural way to assess test taker’s skills. The speaking section along with all other sections are completed online, on the computer and are assessed by artificial intelligence.

  1. Release of Results: PTE releases its test results within 48 hours of taking the test. However, the IELTS exam result can take around a week's or 2 weeks' time to get relesaed. IELTS scores are generated by English experts who compare your performance with the global standards while PTE uses an automated scoring system by using AI.

These factors may help you arrive at your decision of which exam to choose from for your academic endeavours.

Q:   Is PTE accepted in Canada?

A:

Yes, PTE is accepted in Canada. There are more than 70 universities in Canada that accept the PTE scores for international admissions. PTE exam can also help you to fast-track your university and visa applications.

Q:   Where can I find reliable PTE Academic preparation materials?

A:

Additionally, download official score guides to understand scoring criteria and benchmark your target score. Consider reputable online platforms such as Shiksha Study Abroad or coaching institutes offering PTE preparation courses and mock tests for personalized guidance.

Q:   How can I book my PTE exam date in India?

A:

You can book your PTE exam date easily by clicking on the "Book Now" button under the PTE Academic Exam Section on the official website. Following this, enter "India/your preferred city" in the search bar that opens up after your click on the book now button.

From the list, choose your preferred PTE exam centre, date and time slot and then click on "book" to secure your PTE exam date. PTE Full Form

Conducted by Pearson PLC Group, the PTE full form is the Pearson Test of English. The Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE-A) is a popular English proficiency exam for candidates wanting to pursue higher education abroad. PTE Academic is widely accepted across 70+ countries, including popular study-abroad destinations such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, The USA, and Germany. The Pearson Test of English evaluates the test takers' English speaking, writing, listening and reading skills.

Q:   IELTS vs PTE vs TOEFL: Which Test is better?

A:

All three exams IELTS, PTE, and TOEFL evaluate your English language skills based on four parameters of Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. However, there is no single "better" test among IELTS, PTE, and TOEFL. It depends on your specific needs and preferences. Here's a quick breakdown:

IELTS:

  • Pros: Familiar format (paper/computer), human scoring, widely accepted across different nations.
  • Cons: In-person speaking test, slower results (13 days) for paper-based exams. However, one can expect their IELTS results within 3-5 days after taking the computer-based exam.

PTE:

  • Pros: the fastest results (2-5 days), computer-based, flexible scheduling, AI-scoring (reduces the chance of human-made errors while scoring the test).
  • Cons: Less accepted than IELTS/TOEFL.

TOEFL:

  • Pros: Familiar format (computer-based),  widely accepted,  good for US/Canada study.
  • Cons: No pen & paper option, all multiple-choice questions.

Consider these factors when choosing:

  • Test requirement: Check which test is accepted by your target institution/program.
  • Comfort level: You prefer pen & paper, computer mode, In-person interaction, or solo test. Define your preferences and take a call.
  • Urgency: If you need results quickly, Check which exam offer faster results.

Q:   Why take the PTE Exam? What is PTE full form?

  • It is computer-based: This means that you take the test entirely on a computer, and your answers are also scored by a computer.
  • It is integrated: This means that the speaking, writing, reading, and listening sections of the test are all integrated into one test session. You need not to visit your PTE exam centre on 2-3 different dates, the entire exam gets concluded within 1 session in 1 single test session.
  • It is scored on a global scale: This means that your score is reported on a scale of 10-90,  which is the same scale used for all PTE tests worldwide.

Q:   Is the PTE Academic test hard to pass?

A:

No. Candidates should note that the exam has been designed to test the candidates’ English proficiency levels. Hence, a candidate who is well prepared would qualify for the PTE Academic exam with flying colours.
