Commonly asked questions

Q:   Is 1 month enough for preparing for my PTE exam?

A:

It is possible to prepare for the PTE exam in just one month if you have a well-organised and targeted study schedule. Proficiency in English language skills, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing, is required for the Pearson Test of English (PTE). To determine your strengths and shortcomings, start by evaluating your present proficiency in English. Set up time each day for practice, concentrating on each skill area and use dependable PTE study resources. Get acquainted with the format and time limits of the test by practicing with sample questions, especially in areas that present difficulties. Additionally, to enhance time management and replicate the exam experience, think about utilising practice exams. It is possible to obtain a high PTE score in less than a month with persistent work and focused practice.

Q:   Which dates are available for the PTE exam?

A:

Conducted by the Pearson PLC Group, PTE exam dates are available throughout the year and can be booked until 24 hours before the exam. Candidates can decide to take the PTE exam from a network of 62 PTE Test centres in India. For the comfort and safety of the test takers, the PTE test centres allow a maximum of 10-15 candidates in a particular slot at a time.

It must be noted that the availability of PTE test dates may vary according to the different PTE test centres in India.

Q:   Which PTE exam centre is best for Indian students?

A:

There is no exact choice of the PTE test centre that fits the "best" for all students. Students must look for and choose a centre which is the nearest to their current place of residence and is easily accessible. For this reason, start looking for a PTE test centre within your city.

However, if there is no PTE exam centre within your city then, select the one where you can travel to easily without getting late for your PTE exam. This is because if you miss out on appearing in the PTE exam at your chosen time slot then, you will have to book your PTE exam slot again along with re-paying the PTE exam fee

Q:   Can I take the PTE test every month?

A:

Yes, you can appear for Pearson Test of English every month but with some certain conditions.

  1. You can only retake the test after you have received scores from your previous PTE test.
  2. A student can take the PTE test for a maximum of 12 times in a period of 12 months. So, if you have taken the test 12 times within a period of 6 months, you will have to wait for another 6 months for being able to book another test date.

Apart from this, there is no condition for appearing in PTE exam. Keep in mind, retaking the exam is not a bad thing but preparing well for the exam is an effective approach.

PTE Test Accommodations/ Special Arrangements

Pearson PTE Group is dedicated to ensuring equal access for all test takers by accommodating various special requirements or needs, often referred to as "special arrangements" or "accommodations," for individuals with disabilities. All PTE test centres comply with the local disability laws to ensure smooth test administration on the exam day.  Pearson VUE makes the test accessible to everyone by making special arrangements like:

  • A separate testing room
  • Extra testing time
  • A Reader or Recorder
  • Wheelchair access
  • Additional equipment like a lamp, magnifying glass, or an adjustable test station and chair
  • 10-minute break
  • Extra time (up to 25%)

How can Candidates Request a Test Accommodation?

Candidates with special needs must mention their need for the same at the time of My PTE account creation. After the account creation and completion of the profile, concerned candidates will be asked to fill out a form with their details. Pearson Group suggests that test takers must complete this process at least 6 weeks before their due exam date. This will allow the exam administering committee enough time to make accommodations.

Do note that you may be asked to submit additional documents during the period of processing of your application, which may further increase the duration to more than 6 weeks. Further, test takers who are unsure of their eligibility for accommodations are advised to contact the support team. The Pearson customer support team reserves the right to verify the proof you provide for your disability and also provide support to book your test.

Q:   When should the request for "special requirements" be raised before taking the PTE exam?

A:

On meeting certain eligibility criteria, the request for "special requirement" should be raised while creating an account on the "my PTE" portal. Q:   Is there a good PTE score?

A:

Candidates should understand that there is no such thing as a good PTE Academic score. Every university would have its own PTE Academic score cut-off and students are required to achieve scores equal or higher than the set grade. Candidates should note that a higher PTE Academic score would automatically increase their chances of securing a seat at the university and also make them a front runner for any scholarships being offered by the university.
