My Viadrina experience: Master student
Tips: There's definitely a cultural and academic shift coming here, but it's very manageable if you know the language and are willing to put in the work. I didn't receive any scholarships—I finance my studies mainly through a blocked account and werkstudent jobs. Overall, it was a genuinely enriching experience, especially the challenge of building your life from scratch and the people you meet along the way.
Likes (Safety): The city is quite small in order; I have never faced any safety issues. The community here is close-knit, so familiar situations are rare. If anything, the small-city, low-crime feel of the location was one of the more reassuring aspects when I compared it to bigger ones like Berlin.
Dislikes (Internships): The university career center is quite helpful, but the city has very few English-speaking options, so I had to look in Berlin. I mostly had to search independently. Thankfully, I got a hybrid Werkstudent position, which made the distance manageable. But the train connections are not the best between the cities.
