Eligibility

  • Chevening Scholarships are for talented people who have been identified as potential future leaders across a wide range of fields; including politics, business, the media, civil society, religion and academia.
  • Applicants should be high calibre graduates with the personal, intellectual and interpersonal qualities necessary for leadership.
  • To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship applicants must: 
    • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory 
    • Have at least two years of work experience (2,800 hours). 
    • Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies you for a UK master’s programme.
    • Apply to three different and eligible ?UK university courses. You must have received an unconditional offer from at least one of these course choices by the references and education documents deadline listed on the application timeline. 
  • Before applying for a Chevening Scholarship, you need at least two years (2,800 hours) of work experience.  
    • This can include:
      • Full-time employment 
      • Part-time employment 
      • Voluntary work 
      • Paid or unpaid internships 
  • Experience gained during mandatory employment for your degree does not count. You can combine up to fifteen different work periods to meet the requirement.
  • If application is shortlisted, applicants will be invited to interview for a Chevening award.

  • Applicants must fill the Chevening application form
  • Referees  :
    • On your application form will you be asked to submit the names, job details, and contact details of two referees.  
  • Essay questions :
    • Respond to the four Chevening essay questions on leadership, relationship-building, your course choices, and future career goals. 
    • Each answer has a 500-word limit and must be in English.
    • We recommend you prepare your answers to the essay questions in a separate document, before copy and pasting them into the application form once finalised.
  • All Chevening applicants must submit their education documents, references, and one unconditional UK university offer.

  • After months of preparation and trepidation, successful candidates will experience jubilation when interview results are announced from June onwards.

  • If applicants are invited to interview and their interview is successful, they will be asked to submit their unconditional offer from a UK university.
  • The deadline to receive and submit at least one unconditional UK university offer is 17:00 BST (UK time) on 10 July 2025.

Additional Information

  • Applicants are not eligible for a Chevening Scholarship if they:
    • Hold British or dual British citizenship (unless you are a citizen of a British Overseas Territory or hold BN(O) and are applying from Hong Kong).
    • Hold refugee status in a country not eligible for Chevening. However, if you are a citizen of an eligible country and hold refugee status in another eligible country, you are eligible for a scholarship.
    • Are an employee, former employee, or relative of an employee of the UK government, British Embassies/High Commissions, the British Council, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, or sponsoring UK universities.
    • Have previously studied in the UK on a UK government-funded scholarship.
