Scholarship Overview

• Offered in the memory of Claes Isacson-Head of P&I underwriting and CEO of Gard
• He initiated this scholarship with the intention that the scholarship shall help young people to finance an education at university level with a view to finding work within the shipping and marine insurance sectors

This scholarship is applicable for all universities in USA

• The scholarship is applicable for the subjects related to the shipping industry and/or the marine insurance business

Scholarship amount details

Max scholarship per student: USD 20,000 => Rs 18,52,863

Conversion rate used: 1 USD = Rs. 93.39 (last updated 17th April 2026)

• The total amount payout may be awarded to one student or split between several students
• The Scholarship will be awarded in two tranches-
  
  • The first tranche will be paid into a nominated bank account upon verification of enrolment in the awardee’s chosen course
  • The second and final tranche will be paid into the same account at the start of the awardee’s second semester

Eligibility

• The Scholarship Committee will interview selected applicants before announcing the winner of the Scholarship
• Applicant must be 18 years of age or older and must have commenced studies at a university or equivalent educational institution focusing on the required subjects
• Applicant must present a plan for the completion of his/her studies and set out to what extent the scholarship will be used for the purpose of financing a special project or course being part of the education programme he/she has already commenced
• Must outline future career plans and describe the extent to which he/she wishes to work in the shipping and marine insurance business
