Scholarship Overview

Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Scholarships are offered by Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation. The foundation focuses on providing scholarships, awards, and grants in various fields to outstanding young Indians to enable them to develop their scientific, professional, artistic, and cultural abilities abroad and in India. Since 1976, Inlaks Shivdasani Scholarships are being granted to Indian students to read at the top-rated American, UK, and European institutes in a full-time Masters, M.Phil or Doctoral programme.

Terms and Conditions of Inlaks Scholarship of Inlakhs Shivdasani Foundation

• The foundation gives the maximum funding of USD 100,000
• The funding covers the tuition fee of the programme, living expenses, healthcare, and one-way airfare of the scholars
• If the total funding required to complete the proposed course of study exceeds the specified funding amount, then at the time of application, candidates are required to show evidence that they can cover the additional costs on their own
• A candidate’s proposed course of study should not require field trips to India during the tenure of the study
• If the scholarship does not start within nine months of the award, it will be forfeited

Application Process of Inlaks Scholarship

• The applications for this scholarship have to be made online
• To apply for this scholarship, the candidates must have a valid passport
• Note that only one submission per candidate shall be accepted
• Two letters of reference are compulsory and one should be from an academic referee. Candidates should provide official email addresses for both the referees

Eligibility Criteria for Inlaks Scholarship

• Inlaks Scholarship is open for Indian passport holders who are residents in India at the time of application
• The candidates are expected to hold a good first degree from a recognized university in India
• Indian passport holders who have an excellent undergraduate degree from a recognized university abroad should have resided continuously, been employed, or have been studying in India for at least two years after their graduation
• Candidates who have a postgraduate qualification from an institution abroad are not eligible
• Candidates who are already studying or have started their postgraduate education at an institute from abroad cannot apply for the scholarship
• The candidates who have an English language certification as a conditional part of their offer letter need to obtain that certificate before applying for the Inlaks scholarship
• Those candidates who are born on or after 1st January 1992 are eligible for 2022 scholarships
• For Humanities, Social Sciences, Fine Arts, Law, Architecture and related subjects, candidates must have at least 65% academic grade, 6.8 CGPA, or 2.6 GPA from a recognized university or institute
• For Sciences, Mathematics, Environment and related subjects, candidates must have minimum 70% academic grade, CGPA 7.2  or 2.8 GPA from a recognized university / institution

Selection Procedure for Inlaks Scholarship of Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation  

• The applicants for Inlaks Scholarship are judged on not only their present and past achievements but also according to their future potential. Note that the candidates applying for scholarships in art and design shall be judged primarily as per their portfolios
• The selection process for the Inlaks scholarship basically consists of these stages; review of eligible applications, preliminary interviews with candidates chosen from the review, and a final interview with those who succeed in the preliminary round

This scholarship is applicable for all universities in USA, UK, Germany, Sweden, France +49 more

• The Foundation does not give scholarships in the following subjects: Engineering, Computer Science, Business Studies, Medicine, Public Health, Fashion Design, Music and Film Animation
• However, in the case of Imperial College (London), scholarships will be given for Engineering and Computer Science
• In the field of Music, only applications for Western Classical singing degrees will be considered

• The maximum funding given by the Foundation is USD 100,000
• The scholarship covers full tuition fees, adequate living expenses and one-way travel allowance, and health allowance
• If the total funding required (tuition + living allowance) exceeds USD 100,000, candidates must show evidence that they have the ability to cover the additional requirement needed at the time of making the online application

Eligibility

• Interview-
  • The selection process is in two stages: A preliminary interview stage and if successful at the preliminary stage a Final interview round
  • Candidates short-listed for the interviews will have to arrange for their own travel and accommodation
  • The interviews usually take place in either Mumbai or Delhi in the months of May or June
• The Inlaks Shivdasani Scholarships are open to all Indian citizens who have been continuously resident in India for the past six months, at the time of making the scholarship application
• Applicants are expected to hold a first-class degree or equivalent from a recognized university/institution in India
• Applicants who are Indian citizens and hold a good undergraduate degree from a recognized institution abroad, must have resided continuously or been employed or have been studying in India, for at least two years, post their return to India to be eligible to apply for the scholarship
• Applicants applying for scholarships in art and design (fine/performing arts) will be judged primarily on the basis of their portfolio
• Applicants having a postgraduate qualification (e.g. Master’s or Ph.D.) from an institution abroad are not eligible to apply
• Applicants must hold the prior admission to the institution and course chosen at the time of the application. The Foundation will not consider candidates without admission or pending admission
• Applicants must be below 30 years of age in the year of application
• Applicants who are already studying or have started their program abroad are not eligible

Required Documents:

• Two reference letter is mandatory. It is preferred that the letters of recommendation be uploaded with your application. However, if the applicant's referee like to send in the letter in confidence they should email it to applications@inlaksfoundation.org
• The subject line must read as follows: Reference Letter | Name of Applicant | Email Address of Applicant. In case the references are being sent directly by the referees then a word document should be uploaded in place of the reference letter stating your name, the referee's name, and the date by when the reference is expected
• Evidence of any outstanding achievements in extra-curricular activities in any field

Additional Documents:

• Applicants must submit evidence of admission to a university or a course, and a full detail of the institute’s financial requirements
• Applicants applying in the field of architecture, fine and applied arts, and related subjects must upload their portfolio as a PDF file or share a website/online portfolio link
• Applicants applying for film, dance, acting, and music (Western classical singing) must also upload their portfolio through a link
• Photocopy of the first and last pages of the passport
• A declaration of all funding received for the course

SELECTION PROCEDURE

• An independent Inlaks Selection Committee carries out the selection for the scholarship awardees. Applications received are analyzed and evaluated and the committee subsequently calls the most interesting and promising candidates for interviews.
• The selection process is in two stages: A preliminary interview stage and if successful at the preliminary stage a Final interview round.
• Candidates who do not receive any communication from the Foundation by mid-May must assume that their applications have not been successful.
• The Foundation has been awarding scholarships to bright young Indians since 1976. The key to the Inlaks Scholarships is flexibility. The Foundation looks out for the unusual, special talent and identifies candidates a flair. Once the Foundation is convinced of the candidates’ potential it does everything possible to accommodate a worthy candidate.
