Scholarship Overview

• Rotary Yoneyama Memorial Scholarship (Overseas candidates) is for overseas students scheduled to enroll in a Japanese university / graduate school.
• All Rotary International District in Japan will open for 2026 enrollment. 
• Applicants are expected to have Japanese language proficiency: to understand basic Japanese: JLPT N4 level.
• Applicants have to find out and apply for Japanese universities / graduate schools by themselves before applying for this scholarship and are requested to submit a copy of the application for admission for the university / graduate school.

Scholarship amount details

Max scholarship per student: Yen 140,000 => Rs 82,378

Conversion rate used: 1 Yen = Rs. 0.59 (last updated 28th July 2026)

Eligibility

• Applicants must have either obtained or be in the process of applying for pre-arrival admission approval from the university or graduate school (under MEXT jurisdiction) to which you wish to enter as a degree student, and be scheduled for April 2025 or October (September) 2025 enrollment?

Application Process for this scholarship

• Recommendation Letter
• Essay “Why I chose to study in Japan. My future plan after studying in Japan.”
• Research Plan at Japanese University
  • Undergraduate students: “What I want to study at the university or my study plan”
  • Graduate students: “Research plan at the graduate school or the current status of my research”
• Application documents must be written in either Japanese or English. Write in Japanese if the applicant can do so.
• Copy of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test(JLPT) results 
• Copy of the acceptance letter from the prospective Japanese institution
• Copy of the submitted admission application form or the examination ticket for the intended university/graduate school
