History
The Massachusetts Legislature established the UMass Boston in 1964. However, the university opened its doors in 1965 at a renovated building in Park Square Downtown. In the year 1974, the university moved to its present campus on Columbia Point in Dorchester. By the year 1995, UMass Boston had 31 Graduate and Certificate programs. In 2004, the UMass Boston Campus Center opened, which created new spaces for the offices and student activities, and a spectacular harborfront presence for the civic events.
