Maastricht University, which is often abbreviated as UM (Universiteit Maastricht in Dutch), is located in the Netherlands. In its first academic year, a total of fifty students enrolled in the university. The university was facing a shortage of medical professionals. By the end of 1975, the Dutch Parliament passed a law for Maastricht University to gain educational funds and encourage more academic degrees. Maastricht University History
Officially established in the year 1976, Maastricht University was founded as an institute of higher education in order to expand the country's medical training facilities. Around 50 students had been enrolled at the university in the first academic year after its establishment.
