CMU
What’s new?

Founded in 2000, Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) is an innovative Christian university, located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It came into existence as a result of the amalgamation of three different local colleges. The provincial government chartered the institution to grant university-level degrees in the year 1998. In the Fall of 2008 CMU became a member of Universities Canada (formerly AUCC). It is formally supported by Mennonite Church Canada and the Mennonite Brethren Church of Manitoba.

CMU has a beautiful campus consisting of well-maintained buildings, walkways, green spaces, and parking areas. The university offers excellent academic and research facilities that include high-tech laboratories, smart classrooms, and resource centers. The University Library holds a rare and unique collection of printed and electronic resources such as books, journals, articles, dictionaries, guide books, e-books, e-journals, and databases. These resources are open for reference by both students and faculty for learning, teaching, and research purposes.

The university also extends spiritual guidance and counselling services to the students who need it. Other conveniences featured on the campus include a wellness centre, bookstore, and a press facility. The university provides accommodation to more than 200 students in its two dormitory and apartment-style residence halls. Delicious and nutritious food, beverages are served to the students, staff, and visitors in the Dining Hall.

CMU offers a variety of academic programs and a choice of educational settings, which include Shaftesbury Campus, Menno Simons College, and a study, service, and travel program called Outtatown Discipleship School. Menno Simons College operates as a college of CMU, offers two majors that are fully integrated into the Bachelor of Arts curriculum at the University of Winnipeg: Conflict Resolution Studies, and International Development Studies. The Outtatown Discipleship School provides intensive, experiential, cross-cultural, off-campus learning in Canada and Guatemala.

CMU’s Shaftesbury campus offers five baccalaureate programs and all baccalaureate programs are designed to give students a solid grounding in their chosen areas of specialization, significant depth in biblical and theological studies, and contexts for working at integrating faith with all areas of learning. Through its Graduate School of Theology and Ministry, CMU offers a Graduate Certificate in Christian Studies and the Master of Arts, either in Theological Studies or in Christian Ministry and a Master of Divinity. Other than this, CMU also offers two additional graduate programs in collaboration with Eastern Mennonite University, Bluffton College, and Goshen College.

Currently, the university has about 917 students on the roll, including 107 international students. The student population of CMU comprises 70% of learners from Manitoba and 30% from other parts of Canada and 35 other countries. The students are taught by skilled and experienced faculty, which include 40 full-time affiliates and 50 part-time instructors. Apart from this, the university offers various sports and maintains both men's and women's teams known as the Blazers. They participate in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference and various other tournaments where they compete in soccer, volleyball, and basketball.

CMU possesses a comprehensive list of alumni from all across the world. Some notable names in the list, who are highly successful and reputed for their contribution in their professional areas, include Beth Goobie (Canadian Fiction Writer and Poet), A. James Reimer (Theologian), Sarah Klassen (Award-Winning Author), Katie Funk Wiebe (Historian, Speaker, and Writer), Leonard Peter Ratzlaff (Choral Conductor) and Rudy Henry Wiebe (Author and Professor at the University of Alberta).

No, because for visa, you at least have to score overall 6.5 bands. It is a rule and in every subject such as listening, speaking, reading & writing you should not get marks below 5.5. I suggest you to reaper for IELTS and work hard. I am sure you will get 6.5 overall.
