Columbia University Undergraduate Housing

First-year students have five different housing options available to them, as part of the Columbia University accommodation, which includes: Carman Hall, Furnald Hall, John Hay Hall, Wallach Hall, and Wien Hall.







Columbia University Undergraduate Housing Eligibility

Columbia University accommodation for undergraduate students is subject to whether or not they can satisfy the eligibility criteria mentioned below:

  • Must maintain full-time status for the entire program duration
  • Must not leave Columbia University dorms or on-campus accommodation
  • Must abide by the rules and regulations of the university
  • Must graduate on time
  • Register and participate in the Columbia University Room Selection process
  • Submit a signed copy of the Occupancy Agreement by the specified deadline
  • Must live as part of Columbia University residence hall during the first year of admittance and register for Room Selection for the Sophomore year

Columbia University Graduate Accommodation

The Columbia University Graduate Housing is not guaranteed, and is allotted to students on a lottery basis, with housing decisions made public from April through June.

Students who are not able to secure housing would be put on a waiting list and can begin their search for off-campus housing from July to mid-September.

Duration of Stay

Students who are allotted rooms as part of the Columbia University Dorms would be offered the same for a minimum of one semester, and can go as far as the entire duration of the course.

Students part of the Columbia Graduate School of Arts and Sciences can only stay for a duration of 1 year, while PhD students can stay for up to 5 consecutive years as part of the Columbia University Hostel.

Columbia University Graduate Accommodation Eligibility

The Columbia University Graduate Housing Eligibility Criteria is as follows:

  • Receive a housing allocation from a Columbia University school OR get picked from the waitlist for the Columbia University Dorms
  • Must continue to maintain full-time status
  • Must vacate or reapply if one changes schools
  • Can only be listed as a resident at one apartment or housing facility at a time
