Founded in 1919, the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) is a public land-grant research university located in Los Angeles, California. UCLA History
University of California, Los Angeles is the second establishment of the ten-campus University of California system. UC Berkeley was the first. Initially, UCLA offered two-year long degree courses in the fields of letters and science. However, the university soon started offering third and fourth year courses. In 1925, the first batch of 300 students graduated from the university. In 1933, UCLA started offering master's courses and in 1936, doctoral degree education came into existence in the university.In 1958, the university was granted its now known name - University of California, Los Angeles.
In 1950s, the first open-heart surgery in the western US was carried out in the UCLA medical center. By the end of the 20th century, UCLA reached various milestones.
