MSc Climate Change, Development and Policy - Batch of 2025

Lively and diverse campus.
Tips: I'm studying M.Sc. Climate Change, Development and Policy. It's a collaborative course between the Institute of Development Studies primarily and the University of Sussex. Located in Brighton, UK. There was definitely a cultural shift in terms of lifestyle and societal norms. However, there was a massive cohort of Indian students, and IDS provides 4000 scholarships to Indian Students as well. All festivals were celebrated on campus, like Diwali and Holi, so it was homely at times. There was also a large number of international students, providing good exposure to other cultures. The University of Sussex campus is also lovely, as it is located in the South Downs, giving access to lovely nature-filled trails and views. Overall, I am very happy and satisfied with my experience.
Likes (Safety): I have never felt unsafe or uncomfortable in Brighton. It is extremely safe and very student-friendly. I've been out for many late nights, coming back alone at odd hours and it has never been a bad experience. There are 24/7 bus services, so transport has also not been an issue.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The chances of permanent settlement seem a bit difficult at this moment because the job market is tough, and getting a sponsored visa is highly difficult. To begin with, you can apply for a 2-year post-study work visa, allowing you to work and find jobs that might let you stay back in the long run. It is tricky, but worth a shot if you are determined to stay. However, if given the opportunity, I would definitely want to permanently settle down here.
