Recommendation to study in Public Universities in Germany
Tips: You eventually get the hang of time management out of pure necessity. You’re basically forced to survive on your own and make all these big calls for yourself in every part of your life. There are a ton of little cultural differences, but the biggest thing is realizing you have to carve out your own path—you might get a bit of help, but you can’t just lean on that. I didn't actually have any scholarships, so I covered my costs by working part-time. It’s all about finding that balance in your daily routine so you don't burn out or let your grades slip. Honestly, the uni gives you a lot of room to explore different subjects and find what you actually like. Plus, the fact that Germany lets us work part-time and has a decent minimum wage makes a huge difference—it at least guarantees you can make enough to get by.

Tips: German punctuality is 10 minutes before the time, and the university understands that being stressed about the course is not a solution. The law says a maximum of 20 hours of work per week as a student, which is the most one should do. At least my university doesn't have a deadline on ending the course, so I do have to take the responsibility myself and be well-planned on how I would like to pursue my own life. So, of course there is a lot of cultural shift, but it works perfectly when one gets used to it. No, I did not apply for any scholarships, but there are a lot of scholarships available for different reasons, which one needs to research at DAAD or any other site.
Likes (Value for money): There is no tuition fee in most public universities in Germany. I need to pay 400 euros every semester which includes transportation all over Germany and other student benefits. So, the tuition fees feel totally justified, especially in comparison to other countries.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Osnabruck is a very small city with about 6-7 restaurants. There is no Indian street food available, and every main dish costs around 15 euros. I prefer eating at the mensa (mess/canteen) or cafeteria at the university. They provide good, healthy options worth the money, but one takes time to get used to their food. Of course, sometimes there are options to eat fast food like döner, pizza, etc outside.

Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Science - Batch of 2027
4.4
A student-centric college for research and holistic success.
Tips: I found the transition to a new language and culture quite overwhelming at first, but it got better over time. I didn't experience any major cultural shocks, except for the fact that you have to plan ahead every time you want to meet with someone. Overall, I am very satisfied with my university and the course I am taking. However, every country has its own problems, and I think it would be better if German officials were more understanding of those who speak English as a second language.
Likes (Student Life): Normally there are lectures and practice sessions that are conducted in groups of three or five. We go to the canteen together for lunch. I enjoy the most the freedom to choose courses across the field and how welcoming the community is to the international students. There are a lot of events organised especially for the freshers like city bike tours, hiking, weekend trips etc. I try to participate as much as possible. There are initiative clubs like research in sleep and dream, psychedelics, veganism etc. The university also has various activities options and sports classes like salsa, football, photography etc.
Dislikes (Indian Food): The city offers a rich variety of cuisines from Lebanese to Thai and also Indian. It usually costs around 15-20 Euros for a meal. I prefer cooking myself as Indian food is not that difficult and tastes better at home. But there are always fast food joints like McDonald's, KFC and the local kebab shops that cost around 5-10 Euros.

Better opportunities depends on your efforts.
Tips: You have to study. There is no easy way out of it. It's really easy to make multi cultural friends but pretty much everyone here is for studies not only for fun. If you only go for fun there would be lots of difficulties in your semester exams.
Likes (Value for money): There is no tuition fee. German universities are known for their no fees profile especially state funded universities and every state has quite a lot and very good quality colleges such as Hochschule, Fachschule, Technical Universität Ausbildung.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I prefer cooking by myself while indian restaurants are not that good and they taste less than average good. As compared to India there are lots of Döber shops which are my go to when I don’t want to cook and they are quite cheap and pretty affordable .

Master of Science in Civil engineering - Batch of 2027

5.0
The friendliest and most welcoming college.
Tips: The teachers have their own style of teaching and it might be very different from the way you are used to. Be prepared to change so that you can adapt. Even the exams are different. You are even allowed to be friendly and playful with the teachers. This helps create a good environment.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): I spend my day taking classes and then eating lunch or breakfast. Mensa is a place where all the students can eat food for a very affordable price. This helps the student focus on studying and extracurricular activities. We have events and parties every month.
Dislikes (Indian Food): They are supporting and give opportunities to everyone. They provide materials for studying and clearing the exam. They are not regular teachers they are people from the industry as our visiting faculty, which helps us gain practical knowledge of the real world.

4.7
A practical, diverse, and growth-oriented experience at HTW.
Tips: Students should be ready for a self-driven practical learning setup. Adapting to the independent study style and punctual culture takes time but it’s doable. I’ve adjusted well and enjoy the international and diverse environment at HTW. HTW does not provide any scholarship, but there are student assistant jobs you can do under the professor. I am quite satisfied with my experiences.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): In Germany getting a Blue Card and later PR is relatively easy if you’re working in technical fields or professions listed on the official website. These jobs are in high demand making the immigration process smoother for qualified professionals.
Dislikes (Quality of faculty): HTW is quite good with a practical hands on approach that reduce stress about written exams. The only challenge is scheduling appointments with faculty as you need to check their availability in advance. A great environment for learning and the faculty makes you feel comfortable in every situation.

Choose specialisation according to your future interest and experience will be definitely nice.
Tips: I wouldn’t say there was too much of a cultural shift, because everyone else in my program was also from India. I didn’t get any financial aid, but I’d say my student loan paid for itself. The course itself was good, and there was a lot of new material for me to learn. My specialisation was based on my studies before, in mechanical engineering. So, just a tip, everyone else, carefully select your specialisation.
Likes (Part time work): There are no on-campus jobs here, but you can work off-campus. I live in Berlin and there are lots of part-time job opportunities. As a student, you can work 20 hours per week, which is easy to manage along with school, but you do need to be disciplined.
Dislikes (Internships): Only a few of them got an internship. But those who got an internship received it based on their previous experience, which was in their own country. Very few got it according to there current study. So your previous experience also matters while receiving internship not only your current course.
