Masters in Computer Science - Batch of 2026

Rigorous learning with excellent career opportunities.
Tips: Students should be prepared for a rigorous academic environment, especially in technical programs. It's also helpful to start networking and go to career events and seek research or internship opportunities rather than waiting for them.
Likes (Internships): There are good opportunities available but the process is very competitive. There is support from career services and faculty and much of the networking and again that needs to be driven personally.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are a few restraints that offer similar food cuisine and but in the locality, there are mostly American fast- casual restaurants, a few Asian Chinese, Thai and Indian places and some Mexican options.

Good peaceful campus.
Tips: The environment here is very focused yet student friendly and a lot of time will go into class prep and assignments. Work is more collaborative than I was used to which took me a bit to adjust otherwise the classes are formulated well. Post employment here is not very likely but you'll still have better chances back home. I have had a good time overall.

MA in Rhetoric, Scientific and Technical Communication - Batch of 2026

Diverse and inclusive.
Tips: Academics are taken very seriously here and the courses can be quite demanding so if you are pursuing your post graduation here, make sure your basics are sorted else you will have to put in a lot of work. Part time jobs aren't much but if you are proactive enough, you can get teaching or research assistantships which also pay while helping you learn a lot more than you would. Very warm and inclusive as well.

UMN offers great connections and assistance with the industry in helping land internships.
Tips: Not being mentally prepared to face or embrace the culture and weather changes can be detrimental, but overall, it's a great university to study at. Scholarships are available, offered based on the profile and kind of degree. Mostly PhDs get plenty of funding through research assistantships or teaching assistantships. The University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, is a great place to study.
Likes (Student Life): Absolutely beautiful campus, with tunnels to use for commuting during hard, tough winters. Heated rooms make winter survival enjoyable. A lot of student groups, especially Indian student groups, hold events so often that it feels like home to celebrate fests like Holi, Ram Janmastami, etc. I spend time in the library, which feels like it's straight out of Hogwarts, with high ceilings and beautiful roof work.
Dislikes (Internships): UMN offers great portals called Handshake/careers to either apply to off-campus internships or on-campus research positions in the field of study. Professors have great connections with the industry and offer great assistance both in helping land internships and offering referrals directly. UMN has a career centre that helps with resume editing and workshops to sharpen communication skills and enhance speaking abilities, and the available internships are definitely relevant.

University of Minnesota is a bit challenging yet it's rewarding.
Tips: Before joining the University of Minnesota, students should be prepared for a rigorous academic course load and cold weather. But the professors and research opportunities more than make up for it. I love the professors and the specialised research. I didn't initially get a scholarship, but there are a lot of opportunities to work as a research assistant. This would allow your tuition to be waived off, and you will get paid well, somewhere ranging between 25-30 dollars.

The campus of the University of Minnesota focuses a lot on the safety parameters.
Tips: I am absolutely in love with the UoMinn. I am an international student as well, so I can understand how they feel moving to a totally new country. The campus of the University of Minnesota focuses a lot on the safety parameters. Apart from campus security, there are many facilities where one can avail a free cab service if they are travelling anywhere in MN at night. Also, if one feels lonely, they can get themselves a walking companion, who will assist them in reaching their destination.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): I don't personally wish to immigrate to the US after completing my master's degree, but I know plenty of other students who have had their degrees in CS and Elec engineering and stayed back in the US. They are doing pretty well there, so I think there are plenty of opportunities if that's something you want to do.

BS in Agricultural Education - Batch of 2022

Surprising academic challenges and unexpected personal growth.
Tips: Life in the United States is better if you have your own transportation, like a car or a bike. Many things are different here than in India, starting with driving on the left. But the biggest difference is that the only language spoken here is English. The education system here is uncorrupted, and only intelligence, brilliance, and consistency survive here. The faculty are highly talented and experts in their field and you can connect with them by mail. Try to connect with alumni and ask them about the courses and university to get a wide understanding.

Cold place but warm and gentle people.
Tips: There are a few things that I had to get used to but it is nothing that I couldn't do. I got used to the people, culture, weather, and so on in no time. I did not apply for any scholarships. I am very much satisfied with the university and its people, they are nice, warm, and welcoming.
Likes (Indian Food): I prefer cooking for myself and there is nothing I couldn't find, there are Indian stores about 15 mins via a bus from campus. There are also several Indian restaurants a few kilometres away as well. There are a lot of different restaurants all over and around the campus as well.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Permanent immigration in the US has a long queue if you are an Indian. It is totally possible to extend your visa indefinitely once you apply for a green card, but it is by no means a citizenship until you get your green card. I would love to have a permanent residence here, it is a fun place.

It was amazing when it came to college.
Tips: You need to be okay with guns being used around. It's not too bad because I think that's just an American thing. Also, the Hospitality Center is great, they have so many events coming up and it's fun to meet new people and go have new experiences like snowboarding etc.
Likes (Value for money): It's great value for money as I got more in return than what I paid for in my course. The course covered all the great aspects of data Science and machine learning though it was very hectic but definitely worth it.
Dislikes (Safety): Minneapolis isn't safe. Guns are used around the city and a lot of tension is related to black people and cops. Things do get stolen and you have to worry about not getting shot. This is the experience of some people who come here I personally never experienced it. I had fun here and I went out on walks at night alone but only around campus.

Absolutely beautiful college with great faculty.
Tips: Students should know that there will be many cultural shifts, but you will find lots of Indians so it will be good. I got a scholarship so it helps with the expenses. Professors have great knowledge, and the way they teach is unique. Assignments are very unique you will learn a lot from them and be industry-ready. Overall I am satisfied with my course.
Likes (Student Life): The student life here is too good. The campus is absolutely beautiful and every room has AC also the campus is always clean with a great vibe. We have indian students who celebrate Janmashtami, Diwali, Holi etc. I spend time my most time in the library. Also the food here is great to be honest.

Master of Business Administration - Batch of 2024

Budget friendly and diverse University
Tips: I got GA which sponsors my tuition fee during my course. College is great for people who want to get a degree within budget. Will find many students from different countries. Faculty members are supportive of each and every student. Will easily find on-campus jobs to support daily expenses.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Faculty members are supportive to all and each student. They understand the difficult situations of every student and make arrangements accordingly. They are available during most of the business hours to help academically. They will help students to shape their career.
Dislikes (Public transportation): There is selective public transport available for nearby places. It is enough to get groceries and explore nearby places. But to explore nearby places, you have to get cabs or buses which are expensive for a student. You can easily track bus routes on Internet.

Best university and also tough when it comes to assignments
Tips: Students will learn new things, and easy to get part-time jobs. The faculty here are very friendly but assignments are very tough. You need to focus more on academics and the best thing here is that there are less Indians in the class and more Americans. This way you can interact with them and learn their accent easily.
Likes (Part time work): Our college has many part-time job options. Every student who studies in the college gets a part-time job because there are very less Indians who join this university. And most Americans won't do part-time work in our university. Also, our university provides graduate assistantship opportunities.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): My college does not get many companies. It totally depends on our hard work to be placed in the companies. Also, the area where I stay doesn't have many job opportunities, sometimes we get job opportunities only by doing research about the type of programs and the companies, with our hard work and after doing internships.
