The campus is quite happening and safe as well.
Tips: So as a freshman, you will not have the option but to reside in campus housing in the first year of college. Following this, you are allowed to switch after, but till then, you will most likely be given a randomly assigned roommate as well. The campus is quite happening and safe as well. The Springs Flying is something to look forward to, and there are a lot of social gatherings in the form of mixers, games and events. The classes include active participation, which may help save your grades as well.

The university has a good campus and loads of resources to live a wholesome student life.
Tips: The university is expensive and the city is not really that safe. The workload is high with a lot of assignments. The university offers a diverse range of courses but lacks concentration on one. Prospects of engineering jobs are low with not many university recruiters approaching students for post-study options.

Give a second thought before applying.
Tips: The university life here is very much different from that in India. At least in engineering, students spend most of their time completing assignments and completing lectures. UPenn doesn't offer scholarships to Master's students but you can apply for part-time job as soon as you are on campus which will help you meet your living costs. Though the city is great, I would advise anybody who is coming to definitely give it a second thought as the job market right now is not good and doesn't look like will be better soon.
Likes (Public transportation): Philadelphia has buses, inter and intra-city trains, subways as well as trams. Also, it is easy to get cabs. Philadelphia as a city is small, hence, it is easy to go from one place to another through public transport. Furthermore, the university is located in the heart so one can go to most places by walking or cycling.
Dislikes (Value for money): Being an IVY League, the fee for the program is a lot. But compared to other universities UPenn doesn't have affiliation with the working industry. So the students don't get any benefit while looking for jobs in the market. At least in the US going to cheaper universities would be a better choice

Challenging and Stressful but equally rewarding experience at this college.
Tips: There are no scholarships available and there is no significant cultural shift. Transitioning with respect to weather may take time. Overall, university courses are good but challenging, and finding jobs and internship can be difficult. While on-campus jobs are available and helpful, they do not offer any tuition fee waivers.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty at this college are highly approachable and knowledgeable. They employ an intuitive teaching method and assign practical tasks. The teaching faculty is mostly of Asian and American background representing all types of specializations in Electrical engineering. The courses are rather challenging and not easy.

Best learning experience.
Tips: The University might not exactly be what you expected. It is a great learning experience, and there are a lot of things to do, that it can become overwhelming and stressful at times. But if I were to choose to do it again, at some other time, with a better job market, I would. Try not to get distracted by a lot of things you see around you, as that can happen initially.
Likes (Public transportation): Philly has great and affordable public transport, you can reach pretty much anywhere in 30-40 mins, and most places of interest, downtown can be accessed in 10-15mins through the subway from University, and the transport runs at longer hours, although not the safest way to travel during certain hours the day if you're alone, but that comes in safety as per the city. The connectivity and timing itself are great.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are no Indian food options in University dining, and in general Indian food options around Philly are although not limited, but are not excellent, or anywhere close to what you can find in cities like NYC, Jersey or Chicago. There is a lot of frozen food at Indian Stores, but that is not the most healthy option out there.

Biotech research powerhouse. Amazing opportunities.
Tips: For the CBE department, most research is in the biotech sector and so are the jobs and internships. Professors are very nice and will help you if you ask for it.
The courses are tough but are of very high quality. However, the CBE courses are very theoretical.
Dislikes (Safety): Philadelphia is not a very safe city. There are lots of break-ins and thefts. Cycles parked outside will get stolen even if locked. The Penn campus is very safe with good security. Penn also has shuttles that run at night and walking escorts for student safety.

Robotics, MSE - Batch of 2024
4.3
Lots of work and hard courses but great program. Effort is respected
Tips: The classes consist of diverse ethnicities and you hence experience an initial cultural shock. Scholarships are not available for MS students. RA opportunities are also very selective for MS students. TA opportunities are much easier to come by. Quite happy with my choice of university.
Likes (Student Life): Regular socializing events are conducted on campus. Study environment is not too stressful. Happy hours are organized once a month by every department and apart from that all the festivities also have an associated event. Regional festivities are dealt with by the Pan-Asian community and it depends on their yearly budget.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Hard to find a job that sponsors H1B. The green card process is another big headache. H1B is got through a lottery system and is then renewed every 3 years until you are eligible to apply for a green card. And you need to hold the green card for a certain number of years before you are eligible for citizenship.

The economic crisis and policy changes concerning immigration have made living more challenging.
Tips: The culture here is both inclusive and accepting. You will be a part of some of the most culturally rich environments, with clubs and societies ranging from dramatics to artificial intelligence to sports and so much more. I was given a merit-based scholarship that reduced my tuition by 8,500, which has been helpful. Since this is a big campus, getting a bike would really save time.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Living in the United States these days has become a very far-fetched idea. The economic crisis and policy changes concerning immigration have made living here more challenging. It is even more difficult because student visas have been revoked in some cases.

Diverse campus and a great student life.
Tips: The weather and scenery are among the best in the world and you'll soon be accustomed to the life here. Once you get to campus, get a bank account opened and keep your documents in order, as you'll require them. The professors are approachable and helpful, and you may take advantage of office hours. Finally, UC Davis is known for its diversity which makes setting in easier. Overall, I am highly satisfied with my experiences.

Exclusive learning and growth at Davis.
Tips: I have seen a lot of transition here, both on an academic as well as personal level. The campus is very welcoming and focused on sustainability, which leaves a positive message. The faculty are all experts in their fields, and if you are from a tech background, you can look for internships as California is especially popular in technology. Try to explore the city and the outskirts. Public transportation is highly accessible and affordable as well. Overall, I am very much satisfied with my experiences here.

Beautiful campus with good people and a diverse campus.
Tips: The University of California at Davis is a very welcoming and student-friendly environment. The campus is huge, so you might want to start mapping out your classrooms and labs as soon as you can. Biking is recommended to make getting through campus easier. Be sure to check out and enroll in some of the many available student organizations. These organizations will give you a sense of community and look good on any future applications. Try to interact with the locals and explore the city. Overall, I am satisfied with the course and the country.

Very fulfilling experience with highly knowledgeable faculty.
Tips: I would recommend coming to the US for your postgraduate programs instead of your undergraduate studies. You will get a higher return on your investment, and you will save money. If you are planning on staying off-campus, find a local resident to be your guarantor. This will help you in several legal and financial aspects. Besides, there are student bodies that will look out for you in case you have difficulties adjusting. There are many different student groups here that are designed to appeal to lots of students' interests. Look around and see what piques yours, and get involved. Overall, I am satisfied with my experiences.

Friendly faculty and big and vibrant campus with a good ranking.
Tips: Students should be prepared to go through a lot of work at once. Unfortunately, UC Davis has a quarter system, which means there's no break from rigorous academics. Unlike other schools that have semester systems, we go through a lot of work at once. The only advantage is you get a lot of time off. Time management is key when at UC Davis. Students enjoy attending various extracurricular activities organized by the college, including a career and internship fair. The campus provides many places to spend the day attending lectures and completing assignments. The faculty is good. They will help you with assignments and are very approachable. Overall, I am highly satisfied with my experiences.

BA/BSc in Psychology - Batch of 2026

There are lots of opportunity available to learn and grow.
Tips: The campus is beautiful and there is a lot of space to study or unwind especially outdoors. If you are passionate about research and experimenting, then this would be a right fit for you as here students are encouraged to explore their own niche and ideas. Finally, one of the biggest assets of studying here would be its reputation as a teaching hub and the windows of opportunities present.
Likes (Indian Food): I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of Indian restaurants within the vicinity and how popular the cuisine is here. You will never feel out of place and there are specific restaurants for different states such as South Indian, Gujarat, etc. Most of them are pretty reasonable and the Indian grocery stores are quite popular as well.

its been a good ride so far
Tips: Before joining students should know that UC Davis is an expensive place to pursue their higher education so it would make more sense to come here with a scholarship or at least if you are keen on pursuing a degree which is more probable to land you a job. I would recommend you experiment with your electives and participate in cross-cultural events as those are a lot of fun. The faculty is supportive and motivates us to actively take part in events and activities. Overall, I am satisfied with the course and the country,
Dislikes (Internships): My main issue with internships is that although there are some very promising companies available, the college has minimal assistance in helping you land an ideal internship. You will instead be left to your own devices and will have to figure it out individually.

Great campus and culture here.
Tips: I initially found it tricky to settle into the college mainly because I did not have a bank account or a credit card which could be used here since most of the transactions that take place are cashless. Hence, when you get time to settled on campus, make sure you book an appointment with a local bank and the student services who will be very helpful at this time. Side from this, the students are very supportive and the campus hosts a number of sporting events which are very popular here. Finally, it has been a wonderful experience and I am very satisfied with the experiences.

UC Davis: A satisfying student experience with good financial aid
Tips: The food habits and managing finance are two things I notice that are very different from my home country. Having said that once you get habituated, it is not a big deal to survive. UC Davis has very good TA opportunities and other scholarships that can be utilised for paying the bills and fees. I am very satisfied with my university and the course I am taking. The research opportunities are good. UC Davis has a great bicycle culture. So you will not see much vehicle pollution in Davis. It is a calm and serene college town.

The college is really peaceful and calm which is ideal for studying and focus.
Tips: Students coming here should keep an open mind. Work hard and keep applying to internships, teaching assistantships, research assistantships and jobs. You will get there through hard work and not giving up. Student life is fun, vibrant and diverse.
Tips: The engineering and economics programs are renowned here and my program in particular, is quite challenging but also equally rewarding. My class is competitive, so relative grading is a bit of a disadvantage here and there are scholarships which one can secure if they have gotten at least 92% in 12th along with some extra-curriculars to show. All in all, it is a good place to learn and I would recommend it to others.
