Exclusive BA in Fashion Design in the haute couture Capital at IED Rome

Rome is widely recognised as a world fashion capital. Not as known as Milan, Paris and New York, but the capital of Italy is considered the world's 4th most important centre for fashion in the world, according to the 2009 Global Language Monitor after the 3 bigs beating even London. Home of the major luxury fashion houses and jewellery chains such as Valentino, Bulgari, Fendi and Laura Biagiotti, Rome houses major labels, such as Chanel, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Armani and Versace along Via dei Condotti.

The importance of Rome in the fashion field is widely known thanks to its haute couture fashion week Alta Roma in January and July. The event may not boast the same big designer names as Paris, but what Alta Roma lacks in high wattage runways, it gains in local charm. The five days happening, overseen by Alta Roma President Silvia Venturini  Fendi, features runway shows by historic Roman couture houses as well as up and coming Italy-based designers looking for a fresh venue for added attention. The real hidden jewel of this event, however, are the doors that Fendi has purposefully opened to the many nooks and crannies of Roman art, culture and artisans.

For this and many other reasons, IED Rome decides to offer an exclusive and unique  BA in Fashion Design (3 years), held in English, starting in October 2013. The course has as its objective to give the student a solid base regarding the various aspects of this field, exploring both the methods and the technical-operations side, helping to form a highly flexible specialist capable of working in various types of environments and disciplines: from the small artisanal producer, to the small-medium size company, all the way up to the largest multinationals. The fashion tradition of the school can be testified by the great success of two ex-fashion students: Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli. After graduating from IED Rome, in 1989, Chiuri and Piccioli began working together at Italian label Fendi. The design duo partnered for ten years, and later got credited with inventing the brand’s blockbuster Baguette handbag. Since October 2008, Chiuri and Piccioli are the creative directors of Valentino.

New fashion talents of IED Rome were the protagonists of the 13th Competition for Young Fashion Designers “Habitus Baltija 2013”, held last April in Latvia where the school was awarded the title of Best Fashion School.  IED was represented by talented and promising young designers Sergio Campese (Collection “Immortality Of The Spirit”) and Italo Marseglia (Collection “Damned Paris”), who took the second place and won the prize awarded by London Fashion Incubator “Fashion Enter”.
